Having used both a fleshlight and a onnahole (Bible Black series) I can tell you that they are pleasant to use. The only problem is the price for the fleshlight, but if you want to try something cheap, get an onnahole instead. They all have a variety of pleasures on the inside, each giving a unique feel. The only problem is the maintenance with them, as for you have to clean them, I do it after every use. Sometimes I use my imagination, other times I watch a movie to go along with the rhythm.

Can't answer most of your other questions, since I'm a girl, lol. But material-wise, as long as you stick to phthalate-free and BPA-free materials, it should be fine. They do label the toys as such, so it's easy to find safe materials. Silicone is the best, imo, but other materials can be ok too. For a primer on sex toy materials, see here.

For care, most sex toys only need to be washed gently with soap and water, so it's not that hard.

3. Rinsing with water regularly is all the maintenance you need.

Just anything that is around $20, to see if you like using toys. I got a Bible Black Onna Hole from AX that cost me $15 at one of the booths and it is rougher, but I like it. Gotta love JList. It's easy to clean also since one can easily turn it inside out.

High profile adult shops carry all sorts of lube, of course, some lube might end up ruining a toy so it is better to ask around. I don't know much about lube and just go in raw, I just use water as a cheap substitution.

Oooooor just wear a rubber. Getting one that's already lubricated saves some steps too, I'd assume.
