Should the government in the U.S. censor media?

Not sure if this poll was already created but I need the statistics for a report I'm creating. Anyways I'm against this too because I feel that it violates the first amendment of the Constitution.

I'm more curious about this on what I guess would be a philosophical rather than legal point of view. I'm not really interested in if censorship would be a violation of the constitution and rather if it would be beneficial if the government did censor things. Still, it's very difficult to set rules and outlines for this.
There's a lot of stuff to think about, and a lot of inapplicable perfect world situations.

I don't think that they should. We've had the the right to freely express ourselves for about 300 years, and now the government wants to come in and say "You can't say this out in public" or "You can't do that because we say so". And it doesn't matter anyway because people will always find a way around it.

I think that it's ok for media to have censorship, but this should not be done by the government. Family oriented channels should censor the content themselves, while other channels can broadcast whatever they want (other than underaged Sex)

I think the media should be required to be more up front about when they are reporting news and when they are editorialising. *cough*faux news*cough*

I'm kind of curious why that one person chose yes. He's probably a Statist or a Communist that wants government to control lives :p

Depends on what kind of censorship.
If they want to censor those paparazzi peeking on celebs and other similar examples, then I'm all for it.

That seems like more of a legal thing; like how you need a legal consent form to take someones photo.

Just so you know the government is already censoring media, not just fowl language on TV but a lot shit you don't now about and I won't say what I don't want the government showing up at my house.

No. Media corporations do a perfectly fine job censoring the issues you should know about. The government doing it would just be a waste of money when others will do it for free.

1. When I watch the news, I want the full story and I want the true story, dammit. Depriving the public of information simply means that they can't ever make informed decisions. Which is likely a big contributor as to mess the States finds itself in today (or any misery in any country, really).
2. You want to protect your children from vulgarities and violence, that should be done through the caregiver's responsibility and diligence as to what media the child is exposed to- rather than sh*t being f***ing bleeped out or whatever.
3. Not U.S.A.- but the porn would be much better without the censorship, Mr.Japan.

I'd like to keep all the plans to raid the terrorists during a hostage situation off the television where the terrorists can watch everything that happens.

Censorship is mainly needed by minors. Adults have the right to do what ever the fuck they please. But usually some stupid immature adult allows his kid to watch something violent/pornographic and imitates it at school and all shit breaks loose. Censorship should be the job of the parents not the adults. Of course there are many loop holes you can point out here but the point is "Parents need to be responsible".

Censoring the news:
We're pissed because they won't tell us the truth
We'll be even more pissed(and probably panic/overreact)if they do tell us
Everyone loses either way.

I may not agree with what they say but I won't force them to shut down. (but I won't fight for your right to say it, because more than likely you suck)
