Smells as Memory Trigger
0
We all have a random scent that triggers a strong memory in us.
I've always loved the smell of wet paper towels, weird I know. But it triggers memories of staying over my best friend's house when I was really little and her mom would always wipe our faces after eating with wet paper towels.
Also the smell of basements, that kind of cold wet smell. We took in a random pregnant stray cat and set up an area in our basement for her (again I was very little). And I remember spending time down there visiting the kittens until they could roam about freely.
So what random smells trigger the warm fuzzies in you guys?

Roses.
They remind me of both exquisite women and my late grandmother's best pastries (she would use mashed roses instead of jam).
Ozone
Reminds me of watching storms rock 'n roll, playing games while melancholically remembering old times.

Smells don't really remind me of anything.
I just think "I like this smell."
It is possible because on any given moment my mind is swirling through about four different random possibilities and branching off endlessly, well would be endlessly but usually I just go with one possibility and make it more and so on.
What was I talking about?

The smell of the beach and the back of an old but nicely maintained van. :P
The beach reminds me of when I was little and spent alot of time w/ my family.
The van reminds me of when my dad would take me to work with him. Always liked that. (he was a courier btw >.> just a heads up to dispel any bad thoughts)
Oh and the smell of an authentic Indonesian restaurant. It reminds me of my late grandpa.

The smell of bananas reminds me of this sort of medicine my grandmother would give me whenever I was at her house and was sick.

Smelling alcohol - as in the drink - reminds me of the rubbing sort of alcohol. That reminds me of getting a shot at the doctor.
So smelling like vodka reminds me of getting a shot at the doctor. I hate vodka.

I can always tell when it's raining by the strong smell of wet concrete outside my window. The smell of fresh rain would remind me of me preteen winters. Ahh, good times.

the smell of gunpowder or blood , puts me into "war" mode..more of a conditioned response from the military, if you smell one or the other it's probably not time to be dicking around
