So I Just Took The ASVAB Test...

I ranked in the 88th percentile, qualifying me for damn near any job in the military. In case you're wondering, I was planning on joining either the Air National Guard or regular, active-duty Air Force, but I still don't have any real idea what I want to do if I do decide to join the military. I was thinking maybe something in communications or information, as I damn sure don't want to do any clerical work. All I gotta do now is drop approximately 20 pounds and I should qualify for the physical requirements.

Good job! I'm going into the Air Force as well. I might be sworn in as soon as next week. As for me, I'm probably going to do something in the engineering field, although I'm qualified for everything.

Small world I swore in about a month ago to regular air force and am in the delayed entry program. Waiting on my list of jobs and when I go to basic, I think I got a 90 on that test but I cant remember. Mighta been an 88 too :P
Regardless congratulations and good luck on losing those pounds :D

I'm pretty sure you don't get much choice in what job you do in the military. i think they give you some more tests, then tell you what you will do.
also, recruiters lie. a lot. if one tells you that you get to choose your job, he's saying what ever it takes to get you to sign.

I qualified for the NBC program and even could of when in to med school under HPSP, but i can handle the decisions of Nuclear/biological/chemcial or playing god with medical decisions. Rather play soldier boy and arrest people my tours of duties.

A ray of Tsunlight.
Used to be in the Navy (Medically Discharged, basically the lamest way to ever get kicked out of the military...) but intend to re-enlist Army. I ended up with an 84 last time, but I can do better. I bombed the math, as I had been outta high school for a few years at that point and had basically forgotten everything. This time around I know what to expect, and will be able to break 90-92 easily.

I pretty much took the test with only a general idea of what I was getting into. I did well on all of the general knowledge, but had a bit of trouble with the electronic knowledge and automotive sections. I could answer a few of the questions rather easily, but I didn't have much experience nor knowledge in either category.

You do have a say in what job you pick. When you go to the MEPS and talk to the recruiter, you can make a list of jobs you want. You can pick 4 or 5 different jobs, or go in open general. If you go in open you really will have no say in what you get. I picked a few different jobs, then they had me sign this paper saying I couldn't get any job I did not ask for. Now here I am doing what I signed up for.
That's just for the Air Force though, no clue how the other branches work.

Isn't your grade on the ASVAB solely based on how you compare to the rest of the people taking it at that time? Been a while since I took it so I can't for the life of me remember. Oh, and I scored 92.

Shit, everyone has a job but me.I'm still jobless. Gotta wait a while before doing the physical. Even then, it may take a few months before I'm called up for a job. Only then do I go to basic and start my training.
