So I've been having this dream

where I keeping breaking the dream wall, or forth wall whatever. I know I'm dreaming. I try to wake up and it takes so much energy but I don't know why I'm trying to wake up. So I wake up and I do normal stuff but then I realize that I'm still dreaming and I try to wake up but then I'm too tired so I dream in the dream and I'm back to square one except this time, I'm either dreaming or just normally sleeping. So basically it's a dream in a dream, that's as far as it goes. For some reason, it hurts when I try to wake up from the first dream. Discuss.

Hmm. Interesting. As I get it from your words, you have had it several times...
Mate, I think it's stress. If you don't suffer from stress, then it's... IDK.
Those repeating dreams might be a result of something.
I also have dreams where i'm aware of the fact that i AM DREAMING. I developed a counter to that, if i want to wake up. It works 50% of the time.
First, to assure it doesn't happen IRL, make sure it's a dream. Try proving it by touching, smelling, licking, and all kinds of senses that are tiny in dreams. (Somewhy, I never smell stuff in my dreams :S) As long as you are sure you are dreaming, JUMP OUT THE WINDOW :D. 50% of the time, you wake up due to the 'Will to avoid death', or you just 'land' without taking pain, no matter what distance you fell. Then, go to a subway station and jump in front of the subway. As unlikely as it is, you won't survive getting run over by the subway, and you'll wake up due to that being the only way of escaping... UNLESS! You have the ability of teleportation in your dream, or the subway is bent by gravity/physics, and somehow avoids touching you. Then you either shall enjoy the powers of teleportation, or you can laugh at your crap luck.
Either way, if it annoys you, escape it. If not, idk :P

I've tried causing pain to myself when I was younger, but then it does hurt. Okay wtf. I think that's not supposed to happen.
Your methods are pretty extreme. I'll try to see if I can remember the next time I get this dream.
Also, have you tried to bend your dreams? I've tried having a dream with Tohsaka or Kaoru in it or something but then my brain says, "lol this is a dream. That's not going to ever happen. NEVER." And then I end up not doing that.

This may sound strange, but try to keep a dream journal. Whenver you wake from a dream, write/record your dreams the moment you wake. The more you record, the more control you retain over your dream. Eventually it will reach the point where you can directly continue dreams, interact with them, punch things, etc.
Also, if nothing else, it'll be worth some major lulz.

That completely depends on you, mate. Again, we have a percentage of 50. 50% of the time, I remember what I dream, especially if it's REALLY STUPID/NONSENSE... or if it's something good. Manipulation of your dream is possible, actually.
Females are more adept at dream manipulation. As we know, the brain has a 'left' and a 'right' side. I'm not sure which side it was, but that part of the brain is more developed in females (while the other is more developed in males), and they can, with little practice, manipulate their dreams at their own will.
Males can also manipulate dreams, but it takes some practice, mid-term memory (Lol, kinda not short and kinda not long.) and a bit of determination.
These are hints I read of the internet. One of them works most of the time for me.
1; When you get in bed, start saying 'I will stay aware in my dream' repeatedly till you start sleeping. This is what works most of the time for me, and it makes me realise it's a dream.
2; Also Focus on what you want to do in your dream. After gaining awareness in your dream, you must remember($) what your objective was before starting to sleep. *Warning, stupid example incoming:*
I once wanted to dream about raping/fucking a certain girl. Halfway into the dream, I became aware of the fact I am dreaming. That's when I remembered that I kept saying 'I'll fuck her =3' before sleeping. Unfortunately for me, that girl was not in my dream, so my work was left undone.
2$; Refer to the bold $ above.
Sometimes (and in that dream), you wake up after realising you are in a dream. Most of the time, I've woken up. If you want to stay in your dream while AWARE of it, you will need practice.
3; If all else fails, then you'll dream whatever you want to when you least expect it.

Unsigned, try 'accepting' the fact that you are going to dream something painful.
Most of the time when I 'accept' something not guaranteed, it is unlikely it will happen. If you do, you might be hit by a wet dream or some idiotic madness that is not the 'Dream in Dream of dreams while dreaming and fucking etc...'.
Btw, @ your thoughts of my extreme methods... It depends. My brain has an adrenaline reaction to these situations where 'time's speed changes'. It either slows down, or speeds up. If it speeds up, it means the 'subway' hit me in the face and I landed in Heaven (In this case, I woke up). If it slows down, I wake up due to the reaction which is wanting to avoid death. So either way it's a win-win...
But really, it depends on your mentality.
Hey, how about working out before sleep;
You could try it for 2 reasons:
1; You tire yourself out so much that your imagination is down to nothing, so that you won't dream anything (or at least you won't remember it)
2; You do it to feel 'strong enough' to be able to counter your painful dreams. Just as you repeat "I'm gonna be aware" before you sleep, keep saying "I'm strong", then you might avoid the pain your dream can cause as you will be strong in it (Lol, jibber :D)
IDK, if it annoys you to higher levels try these methods.
P.S; OH! If you have a dream where someone stabs you with a knife and you feel 'Pain', it's most likely a mosquito biting you :D

Okay, so I've sorta have dream journal in my head. I haven't been able to control the dreams yet. All the dreams are different from one another.
@ExileOne
I can't grasp the fact that it's a dream, probably have to work on that a bit. It probably doesn't help that I haven't made an objective yet but I'll try it again tonight. Haven't had my back stabbed before, but I have had bones hurt probably b/c of the way I've slept before.
