I remember when I first heard of vocaloid I asked, "What anime are they from?" The guy told me. "They aren't from an anime. It's a music synthesis program. They are kind of just the mascots." At the time just kind of set it aside not thinking about it. Now I just watched on youtube a live concert of vocaloid. There was a giant projection screen showing the animated images of the vocaloid characters. And there was hundreds of people there watching it. Don't get me wrong the animation was top notch and some of the songs were catchy. But I still don't understand how they became the worlds first 2d pop stars. It seems really weird to me. Also the only character I found appealing was Megurine Luka. Why? Because shes the only one that doesn't look like I would go to jail for having naked pictures of her.

Because Vocaloids are badass and you should like them. Go play PROJECT DIVA NOW!

me too! I like Luka the best! :D
But in all honesty I don't really understand why people like them. Maybe we're just different.

I like it because they can sing any song in the world, I have heard vocaloid versions of everything from the portal song still alive to the super mario brothers theme.

As for the topic at hand I think "moe" is one of the factors on why Vocaloid is so popular...

Also in my conclusion, the vocaloids are personification of a "living and breathing" work of art...that and they're like the next musical instruments?...

I am not really a fan of "Vocaloid" But they do have some really nice songs.
For example: "Love is war" by "Hatsune Miko".
Or "Weakness Of The Heavens." by "Gumi.".
Plus they have some really nice images and wallpapers. I would not mind staying all day just downloading their images.

I said in my opening that some of the songs are pretty catchy. I do like some of them. Most of the ones by Luka and a few of Miku's. But I can't even bring myself to watch those twins. they are just to young looking to me. Miku is a little to young for my taste as well.

That does make a lot of sense. It just seemed strange at first.

FYI: My favorite Vocaloid is Haku, she roughly Luka's age but I'm sad that I don't hear alot of songs that are design for Haku's voice TT.TT..(i heard that Haku's voice the hardest to use and Miku's voice is easiest use) That and Haku's character item is a Sake Bottle!! XD

XDQuoted for agreement, although Haku is really just Miku with a poorly-set voicebank. The best song I've heard from her was Ishikawa Chiaki's Uninstall, which becomes more depressing when she sings it.
And op, +1 to be fair since I was once in your shoes.
EDIT: wow, going to get a video of this I'm surprised at what passes for Haku these days. I thought that it used to be really bad Miku settings, but some people have taken a bit of liberty with it (youtube):
Spoiler:
I remember her sounding a LOT more like this:

Well, to be honest I prefer real singers. I think vocaloids are more interesting when they're doing something like singing inhumanly fast, like this:

I think most people enjoy vocaloid, because it gives people a sense of "unity" - for instance, anyone in the world can buy the program and express themselves through it by creating songs. Other people can create animation or artwork to accompany that song, and therefore create a "storyline" depicting a certain character. People go online, view the music video, and begin to become "fans". These three groups of people, who would otherwise never come in contact, were joined simply because of this program. It is almost like an independent world where people can express themselves endlessly through a medium, and I think that's wonderful! Unlike other pop stars who often have songs written for them, sing them in the same style, and have multiple songs that seem to be repeatedly similiar - vocaloids are all about the fans from the first time you open the box until you recieve the finished product. I believe that is why it has become such a phenomenon.

Yah. When heard this song I thought "how the hell does she sing that fast." But then I realized that the real person isn't actually singing that fast. They just use some kind of music mixer to make it sound faster.

Vocaloid is genius, I have over 40GB of Vocaloid music. I will also be getting 2 of the live concert DVDs around Christmas time (the one hled in America hasn't been released yet, it has been pre-ordered).
It's also a good money maker because the characters will never age or die.
