Well being close to middle age is already a huge setback and with limited fundings too.
If anything else, let's just say that current technique is REALLY nothing to talk about.

well to be a mangaka for a living is out of question for most of us, because you really need to devote time, attention and have the spirit to carry on to get good.
I advise is to do your own manga as a leisurely hobby and release them as web ones.Learn how color in photoshop and you be on your way. With time you get better and people would want to read your works.
Although there seem to be a stigma that web comics are generally bad,but i dont follow that sentiment

totally agreed, sadly the good stories sometimes don't pass the two chapters.

Well i guess it can only remain as a impossible dream.
And I'll be honest, I don't feel confident in my capability.
Henceforth i believe it is only best meant as a mere hobby which really,
it's nothing to talk about.

just read Bakuman.Bakuman just gives you an impression that everyone could make manga and submit it to a publishing house, that also taking in the account the main characters got their stuff together already.

Being a professional mangaka is an impossible dream. Like someone said earlier, you can't make a living out of it. Even in Japan, aspiring mangaka are having huge problems just paying their bills. You'd have to be really passionate about this dream if you want to carry it out as your living.
And I mean really really passionate.
Anyways, good luck with your journey.

Well its all about passion as this job wont grant you riches or boost to your social status.Your family must also completely understand your dream.

for me i still want to make comics.
the only problem is i never finish my ideas. i usually run into a road block. then theres the issue of me losing motivation when i start drawing (i still gotta finish my one project thats lying around)
either way i need a friend to work with its just boring working alone.
