Star Trek

I'm kind of surprised I'm the first one to make a thread about this movie. First off, let me tell you that I have never been a fan of any thing Star Trek related. This includes the early tv shows, the early movies, the more recent movies, the tv spinoffs, etc. I had always liked the Star Wars universe, but never Star Trek.
Everything that has been branded with the Star Trek name prior to this movie could be and should be thrown into the trash and start again with this movie. This movie kicked ass! Great action scenes, the plot was somewhat intriguing, perfectly executed comedy, Zoe Saldana (Nyota Uhura) is hot as hell...not to mention the rest of the cast:
Simon Pegg (from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) as Scotty
Eric Bana (from Troy) as Nero (the bad guy)
Zachary Quinto (from Heroes) as Spock
Karl Urban (from Bourne Supremacy, LOTR, Chronicles of Riddick, Doom, & Pathfinder) as McCoy
John Cho (from Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) as Sulu
Bruce Greenwood (from I, Robot) as Cpt. Pike
Chris Pine (Smokin' Aces) as J.T.Kirk
and Leonard Nimoy also as Spock
Yes I did happen to sit next to someone I consider to be a 'trekkie'...an older gentleman who was more than excited about this movie; but don't let these folks scare you. Give this movie a chance! It exceeded my expectations by a long shot.

A classmate of mine went to a pre-screening of it and said it was pretty good as well. I may go see it in theaters when classes are over, when bored or something.
I'm curious to see if this will help launch Zachary Quinto's career to other roles.

It will exceed your expectations; the movie was actually quite good (it currently holds a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes).
Anyone else think they'll make several more?

I liked it even though I'm not a Treky and don't really know most of the quotes or actions that they did refering to the original. It was a cool movie but there were quite a bit of stupid parts in the movie.

I've watched Star Trek every now and then while I was a kid and enjoyed it. So, I watched the movie, and it was an okay movie. The story was weak, but the directing was excellent. :)

I've been a Trek fan my whole life and this movie was phenomenal. The characters were portrayed very well and JJ Abrams did a great job with the directing. That being said, while I think it would have been awesome for another TNG movie, I think doing a sort of "reboot" with TOS was a better alternative than, say, starting a completely new movie series with unknown characters. I think that if they write the next film well they'll be set to do a really good 4 or 5 series run.

Whoa, this exceeded my expectations by a mile. The whole cast did an excellent job. I hope they continue making movies.
Some Parts I liked:
Mmm, almost naked green alien chick...
"I can do this! I can do this!" scene.
"Get down from there!" Scotty scenes.

I've never got into Star Trek, but this movie definitely made me look into it. It was amazing. I enjoyed the entire movie.

I'm fairly new to the whole Star Trek business (never been a Trekkie, never will), but it seems like the movie never slows down. At all. It's one crazy adventure to the next major incident none stop. Character angst and reflection be damned.
Definitely enjoyable, but the only part I raised an eyebrow at was how easily the Kirk vs. Spock v2.0 ended with Kirk taking command.

The movie was excellent, I enjoyed Simon Pegg's comic relief. I would definitely watch the sequel!

I heard this is a good movie to watch. I guess I'll be seeing it sometime after finals are done for me. Can't wait to see this.

Well, just to get this out of the way...
OH GOD LENS FLARE.
But really, pretty good. Anything bad you would say about it, I would rebuttal with, "At least it didn't have whales in it."

I was a little surprised I liked the movie as much as I did. I'm not one of the full-blooded, attending Trek conventions ones, but I am fairly big Trekkie otherwise, so I was expecting a Hollywood bullshit action film, and even though that is what I got it still had enough of a Trek feel that I didn't mind it so much.

I actually got to see a trekkie, of course the only one that was excited about seeing one was me, (my two friends were like "whatever" though I texted another friend who got excited as well) I've liked Star Trek, kinda of a family thing, since I was a kid and was excited and thrilled by this movie. Wonderful restart to the franchise. It was fun to see in IMAX, I just need to remember to get there earlier for future movies, because seeing it in the front row is a bit much. I really liked all the references to the original and Worth the money to see!!!! Can't wait for more!
