Sticky Rice

So, I just had my first bowl of sticky rice.
I don't think I can ever go back to regular rice.
For conversational merit, what's a type of food you had that completely changed your culinary lifestyle?

To me rice is rice. Its what you eat everyday. Some days its good, some days its bad. I prefer noodles and other dough based foods to rice but still. Nothing revolutionary.

Properly cooked sticky rice is a beautiful thing indeed. It's so good that you can eat it on its own.
The one thing that changed my culinary lifestyle wasn't a food iten--it was a beautiful, properly sharpened and cared for Santoku knife. After using that I couldn't bear to use regular kitchen knives that were dulled and abused by uncaring cooks. I saved up for my own nice knife, and this year I got a set of nice knives from my parents for my birthday. Everything is so much easier in the kitchen if you have good knives.

He said that they sucked, so he went out and bought one of these "bad boys." He swears by it.

Oh of course! I hone them after every use and sharpen them once a month or more, depending on use.

stupid question here, but what is sticky rice?
I am also relatively new to cooking - I was thrown in the deep end a year ago when I moved away from home, so I dont really have that many habits to suddenly change...
but food-wise, it was a char-sui steamed bun which was absolutely amazing.

Sticky rice is short grain white rice like sushi and in the tenon/katsu bowls. Also in a few places like Okinawa and southern asia it also a coconut rice sweeten wrap ball. Also pearl rice is a sticky rice.. which is widely grown here in california and makes about 60% of the rice used in japan. Their rice fields 30 miles away from where i lay.

There are many variety of rice. just few that is in the market these days. The more common staple in the world.Sticky rice is similar to gluten rice of but more starch. Leave it in your mouth enough and you break down to more sweetness and later alcohol. lol
Santoku knife are better than my Wüsthof knifes. They are just as light and balance in my options. But it all matters if you keep them sharpen daily after use or when needed. Knifes are an investment for life. It will always pay off in the end.
But I just love my Chinese clever knife for most. Just needs to be nice thin and tall type.

PURPLE sticky rice--SO GOOD! Better than white sticky rice, IMO.
Dish that changed my life? Pho. Sweet, salty, spicy, sour all in one slurp.
OMG must go find a pho restaurant now...

hahaha I know what you mean. I've been eating sticky rice all my life, and when I moved to North America and went to a chinese restaurant, I was so shocked by their non-sticky rice... I was just like, "wtf is this bullshittery??" I can't stand non-sticky rice, they always get stuck up my nose for some reason o.o;;

At the moment I absolutely love pizza. I started eating it when I was round a friend's house and we'd play EVE online but couldn't be arsed to cook, and I got hooked on Dominos pizza and pizza in general. Every time we go shopping, 3 pizzas in the freezer to last a week, although they don't taste as good as Dominos.
Oh and Rice pudding. Just to keep with the rice theme.

Frog Legs Provencale. Got me to start eating things I would normally shy away from such as gator or ostrich. I am still interested in eating Ortolan Bunting though.
