Have you ever worked hard on something only to have nothing?

So I've been working on an important essay that I need to hand in tomorrow for one of my classes. I've been working hard on it and not a minute has passed this past weekend where I haven't at least thought about it. So naturally you'd think I'd have something written down...but I got nothing and I've given up to the point where I decided I'd rather write on Fakku about it. I've been lazy before and not got stuff done, but this time I'm trying and still got nothing. So my question is have any of you ever worked on something (not just a paper) and put a great deal of effort into it, only to get so little achieved?

It's called "Life".

Even if you do manage to accomplish something and go down in history, you're still gonna be rotting in the ground.
