The GOOD Cartoon Network
0
Fellow children of the 90's will feel my pain.
Do you miss when Cartoon Network was GOOD? Back when we had Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, Dexter/PPG/Johnny Bravo, etc. ? I was watching some very old bumpers (commercials) for the good ol' days of CN, and it made me miss those years. For anyone who doesn't watch it lately, they have REALITY SHOWS now. With PEOPLE.
The day they dumped Cartoon Cartoon Fridays is the day CN went downhill.
Opinions?
(Yes, losing Toonami was a loss, but the network wasn't about fucking Naruto, like 13 year olds would have you believe. Just getting that out as this isn't a Naruto thread.)

People who can relate to the thread (and maybe some that can't) can point out quite a few good memories.
- What A Cartoon!
- Super Chunk (Saturday afternoon Dexter marathon FTW, although Dexter was rare)
- Old bumpers
- Sailor Moon
- Hamtaro
I could say more, but it would take a lot of room.

Dexter and all the rest of old CN was very annoying to me. Even then I kept watching, and now that it's gone I miss it. Does Ed, Edd and Eddy count as old CN?
BTW: Are you two following each other (actually you Joe)?

I'm beginning to wonder if a few people are following me this morning. But anyway, yeah the Eds count as old CN. I remember seeing the teaser commercials for Ed Edd n Eddy (Before people knew anything besides the 3 main character names.) I love the Eds, and the movie was an amazing way to end the series.

Of the non-anime shows that used to air on cartoon network, one that I miss and wish that they would have at least made a conclusion to the series is Samurai Jack. It was probably one of the best U.S. cartoons I've seen in a long time, (unlike the crap that they're airing now and have been for the past few years). I guess part of the reason I liked it was that it helped to transition me into anime.
Also, I don't know why the hell the pricks that run that channel decided to start running freaking LIVE ACTION reality t.v. shows on a channel that calls itself freaking CARTOON Network. Maybe someone needs to explain something to them. When you call a channel "Cartoon Network" most people expect to find uh maybe... CARTOONS. The only reason I even have to watch the station anymore is Adult Swim and even then I only watch it for Bleach. It just seems like things have gone down hill since I was a kid just watching people in cartoons beat the living hell out of each other.

CN was dead a long time ago. Now it just plain sucks with shows like Total Drama Island. I mean WTF is that shit? I missed the old days when CN had good shows and Toonami was on the afternoon block airing shows like G Gundam, DBZ, oh and Megas XLR. That show was awesome.

My First anime on CN...
OMG I have been trying to find the name of that! I only remember watching it on the Taiwanese CN. Don't know if it ever came out in the American one. It was such a cute show.

I liked it way back when it first appeared...back when everything really was cartoons.
I especially liked it late at night when they would air things like The Jetsons and The Flintstones.
I loved Scooby Doo. So...so much.
When the new shows like Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo came on I began to lose my interest.
Cow and Chicken and Ed, Edd, and Eddy really helped ruin it.
Then they came out with even more terrible shows and I stopped watching all together.
I remember that DBZ and Tenchi Muyo! were the first anime shows I saw (that I recognized as anime, because even though I saw shows like Speed Racer I wasn't aware they were anime shows), and the first shows to get me interested in watching more anime and learning the Japanese language.
Now all of the good shows are gone.
Boomerang has it's own channel...and you can't even get it on cable without paying tons extra. And to make things worse, Boomerang (the channel which is supposed to show old-school cartoons like The Jetsons) is now showing shows like Dexter's Lab and The Powerpuff Girls.
W-T-F.
What ever happened to Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
I guess even "classics" die.

Cartoon Network died around 2003 for me, if my research is correct.
Ones I can remember: DBZ, for sure. Samurai Jack took me a while to get hooked. Never liked Scooby Doo, god. Loved 2 Stupid Dogs. Been a hugefan of Ed, Edd, and Eddy since at least the 6th grade. Space Ghost, Coast to Coast was later. Dexter's Laboratory, for sure. I Am Weasel. Cow and Chicken. Johnny Bravo. Courage the Cowardly Dog... oh, fucking Time Squad!!!! I stopped around Grim and Evil/Grim Adventure of Billy and Mandy.
A lot were re-airs from back when my parents were children: Quick Draw McGraw, The Huckleberry Hound Show, Wacky Races, etc.
It's a child's version of Drawn Together. Though, it does have a lot of adult humor I can't possibly imagine children who watch it would understand.
