The Malazan Book of the fallen

So i absolutely love this series. Steven Erikson's ability to create such human characters with such real emotions is truly masterful. I will admit that the first book is not as good and has a few anomalies compared to the rest of the series but the overall vastness of the universe that he creates is awesome. If i were to compare it to Lord of the Rings i would say that the first book is at the scale of the trilogy and hinting at a larger world surrounding the one area. but in the next book the scale is blown to a continental proportion and then eventually an entire world is involved in the plot. The ability to hint at so many things in early books then follow up on them later on in the series is extremely satisfying. I truly love this series and would love to discuss it with anyone else who knows of it. If you like fantasy like George R.R. Martin or J.R.R. Tolkein this series is for you please read it so i have more people to talk to about it.

Wow says someone whose on a site full of fantasy content. I'm sorry but just because i can read a book with more than 20 words on a page and you can't does not mean that i'm a homo.

Look dude i don't know what your problem is. Let me clue you in fantasy books exist because they sell. They sell because people buy them. People Buy them because people like them. Now that we've gotten passed the basic workings of industry hopefully your puny brain will be able to understand the situation. I didnt post this so you could bash fantasy. I posted this because there are alot of people out there who do like fantasy. Now if you really have nothing better to do then go onto a topic about something you hate so much then you should probably go kill yourself you fat fuck.

So yet again because you have no imagination your going to diss me. You clearly stated you dont mind if its at a visual level but as soon as it requires you to exercise your brain you think it means your a homo.

Ugh how can i stop he just said something good and bad at the same time. It pisses me off that you immediately judged one of my favorite books. Everything you said pertaining to fantasy being for 13 yr olds is so true about most fantasy books it pisses me off i dont read those. sure J.R.R. Tolkein was good but not really that good i agree but before you go and diss fantasy as a genre and the series that i posted try reading it. This is not some kids book. This book deals with serious human emotion and its nothing like that hero vs villain crap. Please try it before you diss it and i apologize for immediately judging you.

Don't mind that guy, BTW I read the book on the pick and I gotta say I agree with your OP.^^Lol i missed this post in the middle of our bickering. Thanks i'm glad you agree with my OP its hard to find someone to discuss this book with. Most of my friends don't read much and the ones who do have yet to read this series. I need to finish the last book out but its so hard to just pick it up again without the rest fresh in mind. I intend to reread the whole series but that could take months :P I love talking about the plot with other people and what exactly they think the warrens are.

Wow thats impressive i thought i read fast :P I think i could do it in two sittings but the reason i say months is because i do so many other things that i wouldn't be able to go for long periods of time :(

LOL i see you've read Drizzt. well the pic does not really do the book much justice i just choose it cause i had never seen it before and it was better than the cover i had. I found this series through comparison to the Song of Fire and Ice. The reason why this book differs from most fantasy books is because it does not revolve around one character or conflict. The author also has a Ph.D in Anthropology, which explains his deep (IMO) understanding of human emotion. He is able to create characters taht seem all too real and he is not afraid to kill them off when it seems impossible that they will survive. Trust me he isn't going to send in any giant eagles to rescue them off of an exploding volcano. Another thing that is absolutely amazing about these books is that he is able to expand the world that these characters are in. By the final book he will have added the final continent into the plot making a complete globe out of the setting. Ontop of that he is able to make a very complex and deep plot with many overlapping side plots that rarely conflict one another. The only time i can think of that his explanation of something contradicted anything earlier in the series was when it contradicted something in the first book. And the first book is clearly a starting point so IMO its fine that that happened. It is really hard to put these books into words but i really do think that they are magnificent.
