Animefreakusa got to pick the topic for the month, and this is what he has to say:
So sayeth Freaky, so go on and cook those preserved foods! It may be a challenge to make canned goods taste and look awesome, but I know you guys are up to it. Whether you use pickled peppers or not, I want to see those dishes using canned goods.
As always, here are the rules:
Contest officially starts now and ends 00:00 PST (GMT-8) on August 1, 2012. No entries will be accepted after that time. Voting starts whenever I wake up on that day and will last for five days, after which we will announce the winner. Winner gets mad props, rep from me (and from others?) and the chance to choose the month after next's theme.
(Edited to unsticky)
I can't think of one that isn't bias to some cash flow and items in your local megamart. So i think this should be easy enough for new people and people with limited funds and varieties of items.
Ahhh i ate the first green tomato in the season, Pickled the first batch of peppers, salted and dried the first habaneros, picked the first Trinidad scorpion pepper, and building the clay smoker for the fish and peppers. Ah summer for us. Now i have to go hunting for the boar and pig for the Salami, Chorizo and dry cured ham. Fuck i hate summer.. so one want to do this shit for me. Fuck i should just buy shit.. except market level preserves sucks. It's hot as hell.. or in americanese hot as a pinto fire.
Ahh mmm what was i saying.. oh yes. Summer... fuck for forget it.
Meh this month ingredients is:

Spam is in brine.. so yeah it preserved meat. Tuna in oil is too.
Edit: 7-7
I pickled lemon cucumbers and green beans on the first and my pickled banana peppers on the 28th. Tried them today:
Lemon cucumbers plain first pickle: Light and summery. Need more salt.
'' ''' new spice blend: Ohh taste like a deli pickle.
"" "" ::: new spice blend second pickling: Powerful.. less salt.
Beans mild, med, and fucking hot fuck. Need more salt.. too fucking hot man.
pepers: Perfect.. ate the whole batch.

If it been brine, smoked, salted or packed in oil. Then yes. Aka tuna in oil, Sardines in oil/smoked, Oysters smoked in can or salted cod/Sardines/what have you. Excludes corn/green beans/peas. Includes pickles, olives in jars and peppers. If it packed in syrup like the cherries and peaches aka jam, jelly or preserves then si.

(For some reason my urine tastes really sweet and I don't mean the regular 'o sweet flavour, I mean the nutella kind of sweet)

If anyone from Indonesia wants to join the contest, I suggest using dendeng. It's freakishly delicious.
