Torrent Seeding

I was just wondering what was a suitable time to seed something that youve downloaded.
Is there an unspoken rule like of a couple of days, or, just whatever?
I normally try to seed the ones that have very little no. of seeds, but what would be an apporiate length of time to do so?
Opinions? Views? Random Comments?

for me, i seed differnt lengths for differnt things, like if its a 30min show, ill seed until its at 5.0+ ratio, but if its a game ill only seed till about 1.5. you get the point, as long as you can seed it for couple days at 50kbs or even 25kbs so it doesnt slow down your internet, or even just do overnights on infinite for like 3-5 nights its fine

The general rule is to seed back what you've leeched, which is keeping your leech/seed ratio at 1.
However, I never follow that rule unless I'm using trackers from a site that monitors your ratio, e.g. BakaBT, Empornium. In that case, I usually keep my upload speed at 50KBps during the day and let it seed to max speed when I go to bed. If I'm downloading a lot of stuff, I might reduce my upload speed to 10KBps.

That's not cool. :(

I tend to seed what I've taken. As I feel that's just common courtesy. Sometimes for some unknown reason it will cut off and stop seeding on its own. I have no idea about the ins & outs of this, I'm simply not a big enough of a technophile, but I try to do the 1 ratio thing.

I usually keep my ratio at 1.0, just for the sake of it.
For Private Trackers I usually upload more.

I tend to get my ratio to between 4.0 - +30 (Latter being on some BakaBT torrents).
Then again it's pretty easy when you can upload 10 MB/s.
But I frown on the people that tend to just leech.. Unless they got one of those ISP's that give crap ton of inbound bandwidth but barely any to outward.

There should be a column in your bittorrent program that says "Ratio". It's one of the farthest right columns.
@Tegumi: If I could, I would. My internet speed is pretty limited, so I can't spend time seeding back every torrent I get. My upload speed seems to be capped at 250~300KBps at full throttle, which isn't bad but isn't great either. (And I'm struggling to keep my other ratios up.)

I agree.
I normally upload all the time at a slow rate say 20kb/s then ramp it up when I'm sleeping (all to a schedule).

You mean other peoples' ratios? You can't.

Yup, I know the common rule is to give back 100% what you have taken, so everyone should have a 100% return ratio.
But I can never apply to this, since it would take me days/months with an upload speed of 8kbps usually, tops at 20kbps if the connection is good.
That's why I use Storage websites like megaupload, mediafire to compensate and post them somewhere in fakku if I think people want to download it.

For me it depends on how much enjoyment I received from the contents of the torrent. My ratios vary from 1 - Infinity, I have some torrents I've been seeding for a few years.

Since I download a lot, I keep most torrents seeding only until 2.0. There are a few that I keep seeding longer, though. (One of my own has already reached 116...)
