So I'm going to see the movie technically tomorrow. My friends ordered midnight viewing tickets so Thursday night we'll be going out to eat and then Friday morning at midnight we'll be seeing the movie.
I'm pretty excited about it since I enjoyed the books so much, well most of them. I never finished the forth one because I was really irritated with how she was ending the book. Maybe there's a plot twist that could change my opinion, but what I wanted to happen in the 4th book most certainly did not happen.
Personally from the trailers I've seen I'm afraid it'll be really corny. Some of the fight scenes just look B rated to me. But since I liked the book so much I figured I'd give it a shot.

Anyone else planning on going to see the movie?

Saw a trailer for it, acting seems pretty bad. Not to mention if it's anything like the book, a good chunk of it will be praising Edwards looks.

The first book is really poorly written, so I'm not going to see this movie. The main idea of the book seems to be how hot the vampire boy is, since the author spends more time on that then the plot. I don't really know how you translate that into a movie.
Also, considering the popularity of the books, the movie seems to be a bit low budget. The trailers looked almost amateurish, and none of the actors are known at all.

Saw the trailer, thought it looked like sum real bullshit.
I won't judge it until i've seen it though.

It's a movie based on a book series where vampires sparkle when they're touched by sunlight. They don't explode - they sparkle.
I hate Twilight, and I hope the woman who wrote the book series dies of a massive stroke.
And before anyone says it, I know that's not funny, my brother died that way, but I still hope it happens.

Alright well I just got back from the movie.
Since I went to the special midnight premiere or whatever you wanna call it every 14 year old fangirl from the town was there. Ugh. There were giggles after every line, more giggles, and more giggles. I wish I had a gun so I could just snipe some bitches out.
In defense to the book since you guys commented on it - it was meant for teenage girls. It was in Bella's perspective which in turn every other girls perspective. Bella was an ordinary girl like every girl in the world considers herself and she was amazed at how unordinary Edward was so she noticed a lot of features about him. His looks weren't what the book was about, it was about finding somebody, and no matter what the circumstances were they were with each other until the end. Very sappy, and very much girl point of view.
However, I will agree with what Shaggy said about things like the sparkle. The fourth book I didn't even finish yet. I wanted the 4th book to be about the struggles Bella would go through becoming a fledgling and how Edward would be there with her every step of the way. I won't tell what happened instead, because that would spoil it - but that's not how it happened, and it pissed me off :?
Okay --- back to the movie.
The movie kept the plot pretty damn similar to the book, there were some scene changes, and there were some slight differences, but the whole thing was the same, nothing new added, nothing major forgotten - it was very close to the book.
It was the audience that ruined it for me. I started to read the book before it got real big and it was a book that I really loved but I didn't really vocalize it much, then the book was a major hit and everybody and their mom jumped on the bandwagon and took it out of proportion. That kind of shit always ruins it for me. Like I loved the books, but I wouldn't ever buy the t-shirts and pins and shit. Like every girl was wearing in the theater.
But yea. Some of the lines were awkward, but I think it worked out okay. The scenes weren't as bad as I thought it'd be. The running still bothers me. They could've done a better job with that.

Well I had no intention of actually seeing this, but my ex (who I am still friends with, don't ask why or whatever) has been wanting to see this since she heard about it. I saw her on friday, she said she was gonna go see it with a friend, but her friend got sick, and i was working, I mention that if she were seeing it later after 10pm (when i got of work) etc. She left, later we txt back and forth maybe Sat. @ 8:30? then we decided Sun. cuz we both had that day off.
Sat.- i txt her to c if she still up for going, she says yea, but can i bring some ppl? I say sure of course (i have an idea who they are anyway)
Sun.- well 1 of her friends the girl can't come, so that leaves us me, her, and another guy, one of my friends but also good friend with her, (I felt like a third wheel the whole god damn time!)
As for the movie-
I never read any of the books, nor knew of anything about it cept for the previews where she says 'vampire' etc. so
My take on the movie, it was ok, i have no clue why ppl were luaghing, i found none of the jokes amusing, just waited to c the end, so i guess i'd give it a C-
Here's the kicker, she already saw the movie that friday night anyway WTF! she woulda seen it again by herself anyway, why bother going with us, then i find out she dragged the other guy allow, made him come today to c it. (yeah i wish i had a clone to be there for me, cuz i couldn't stand that day at all)

I think the movie was based too much on the book. In the book we remember the thought processes and what was going on inside their heads, while in the movie you just see what's on the outside, and if you haven't read the book, you wouldn't understand.

The movie was on a low budget, with actors who didn't know how to portray the characters correctly.
I love Robert Pattinson, and all - usually he's a good actor but he played Edward all wrong. Kristen Stewart, played Bella with no emotion. Every line she delivered was just dull. I like the general idea of this movie, because I'm a sucker for romance-type films, but I'd give this movie a C at most.
Seriously, one part that annoyed me to no end is when Bella and Edward are in class. He looks at her {in the movie} like he wants to puke, when he's supposed to look like he wants to kill her. He's supposed to seem annoyed/mad at her not repulsed by her.
I'm hoping the next film would be better, supposedly it's coming out in 2010. Now since they made so much, hopefully they'll get a new director and give Robert + Kristen some acting lessons.
BTW, about the screaming girls - I didn't have to encounter that. There were some "omfg he's hot" whispers but that's it. Though at the end of the movie girls outside started screaming "Edward DIES!11!!"

well thats something i dislike about book turned to movies, i shouldn't have to read the books to understand the movie, or knowledge of the books character development shouldn't need to be know prior, the movie needs to develop it for me to see.

I read all the books, and I liked them (although it was kind of annoying to know how "great" Edward was in Bella's eyes). I saw the movie, but I left before it ended. I didn't like it at all, they changed to many things in the story, the actors seems lost most of the time and the acting was not only poor but really bad. Other than that if you haven't read the book it will be hard to keep up since the movie changes scenes out of nowhere and not following the previous scene.
QFT.
Only read the books.

My friends and I were planning on watching this movie today. I didn't decline because I didn't know what this movie was about. Hell, I've never even heard of the books and I only saw some TV spots.
In the end, I decided to watch Bolt while my friends went to watch this. I would have love to join them, but I can't say no to Disney movies.
Also, my sister keeps talking about this thing like its the second coming of Christ. Kinda annoying.

I'm a big comic book fan, and while movies are good exposure for a very often dismissed artform, sometimes things get stupid or changed, and then I hear some little kid say something like, "Venom was so cool!" and I can only die inside or yell at him, "he should have litterally scared the shit out of you! you're 5, and he's supposed to be demonic and out of his mind, not a manic depressive version of that kid from That 70's show! fuck!"
Ahem.
Sort of the same thing with the "new trillogy" of Star Wars, but that's...a whole other thing.
Anyway, point is I ca understand liking something, and then having people completely misunderstand it and become stupid fans of it.
But...I'll probably wait untill this movie is free to me to see it.
It's not my kind of thing. Which is probably ok, because I'm definately not it's target audiance. So to me, it just seems silly and anoying.
Also, you might think that South Park episode was a joke, but that shit happens, man. And it's not pretty. It's fucking...horrible.

Now that you mention comics...

Okay fine, I haven't seen the movie or read the books, but I guess I will since I haven't read anything longer than a volume of manga in a while.
EDIT: And no, "it's not a porn site, but that would have been cool too."
