UK to censor Internet pornography by default
0
So, ISPs in the UK now have to censor online pornography by default before 2014, regardless of if you're a new customer or an existing one.
All because parents are too fucking lazy to watch their own children.

As saddening as it is to say, I've seen the internet be treated like a daycare center where children go around unsupervised constantly (play Call of Duty online and a ten year old can teach you some new racist terms you didn't even know existed!).
If you don't mind me asking, do you live in the UK?

Sadly, I do.
Loli was made illegal here a few years ago as well, but that never actually stopped me.
Though that stems from bullshit about protecting children and obscenity. (I find paychecks of footballers and actors obscene!)
Female ejaculation is illegal here as well due to obscenity.
The UK just really hates freedom...

That blows, but that also factors into how much time the police spend on catching people trying to fap their wangs on nude pics.

Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, OI!~
Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, OI!~
But seriously...
In the very least they say that there will be options that can be changed to disable the censorship, so you shouldn't be completely boned.

But people really shouldn't have to opt out.
And what happens to those who do opt out? Are they to be placed on some kind of pervert/possible child molester list?
The sad thing is, this won't stop at pornography.
They'll get the foot in the door and start blocking everything else.
Political opposition, hate speech, torrent sites (they've been cracking down on that and proxies like fucking crazy lately), etc.

I should very well hope that the legal system would adapt to these changes, with which proper legislation would determine where the line is drawn and avoid something so horribly authoritarian.

I actually think it's not such a bad thing to do. For those of us that actually pay for our internet bill it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to toggle the option on or off. This has the potential to decrease the number of underage viewers on pornographic sites, which quite frankly shouldn't affect legitimate users at all.
PS: But I don't live in UK, maybe there's something I'm missing?

Is it odd that I can imagine a phone call to an ISP to request porn sites be unblocked?
How awkward of a conversation would that be?

Where is V when we need him?
That sucks for our UK friends. Do you have to call your ISP and ask to have porn unfiltered, or is it always gonna get set to filtered?

It also states that some ISPs will be resetting it to filtered every month (and therefor have to be called, or something, every month to be unfiltered again.)

All the smart kids gonna have to pull out the old proxies. While the other brits will be hanging with their dicks out not knowing what the hell a proxy is.

As far as I understand from the article, it's not a move for ISPs to block all Internet Pornography entirely; it's move to make parental blocking manditory for all ISPs and we'll be able to disable them. The downside is they'll get reset after a certain amount of time and parental block gets forced back on again, so you'll have to keep disabling it which sounds like it could be annoying as fuck.
They are not censoring the Internet. You should really have read through that article properly, OP.
At least that's not happening.

It had previously been feared that the government would force ISPs to block access to pornographic content unless a consumer specifically requested it.
At least that's not happening.

Or for fucks sake.
Everyone has a sex drive, and not everyone has the money to afford prostitutes like those in politics.
THE COMMON MAN NEEDS HIS PORNOGRAPHY.
Why are people so fucking terrified of what they've got between their legs.

My mistake
I don't see people taking this lying down, at any rate. Humans are a naturally horny race.
