edit:
Make a kotatsu:
Sand the plywood board, which will be used as the table top. Remember that only the table top will be visible when in use, so use an attractive stain or paint.
Turn the table upside down and place the heat sources as close to the center as possible to insure evenly spreading heat. Use a pencil to mark the screw holes in the heat source's mounting brackets so you will know where to drill. The number and placement of screws will vary according to the specific heat source you're using.
Drill the holes in the marked places and mount the heat lamp or heater on the bottom of the table top. Staple or tack the wire every 4 inches along the bottom so it does not hang down. The amount of tacks or staples you need will depend on the size of the heat source and its distance from the edge of the table.
Set the table upright near the source of electricity and plug it in. Place the blanket or comforter over the table so that it hangs down to the floor equally on all sides.
Place the piece of wood over the table to sandwich the comforter between it and the table top. It's ready to be used, so turn on the heat source, sit down with your legs underneath the comforter, and enjoy the warmth.

Now where's my paddle...
Kotatsus are pretty awesome though, as long as you don't fall asleep under them and accidentally burn your legs. What? No, that totally didn't happen to me. Nope, not at all.

Nice! I am hoping to make one of these over summer break for my college apartment. Would be a nice addition up here in the cold northern city of Duluth, MN.
