Sam Raimi has signed on to direct the big-screen adaptation of the videogame franchise Sam Raimi has signed on to direct the big-screen adaptation of the videogame franchise 'World of Warcraft'.

The 'Spider Man' director will oversee 'Warcraft' once he finishes work on the fourth installation of the superhero movie.

Sam will pair up with 'The Dark Knight' producer Charles Roven to develop the film from the fantasy fighting game in which the 'Warcraft' universe first emerged.

The live-action film will be backed by Legendary Picture and computer game publishers Blizzard Entertainment, while Warner Brothers will be in charge of distribution.

Sam is due to start work on 'Spider Man 4' with Columbia Pictures next year, before preparing 'Warcraft' for release in 2011.

Video game designer Chris Metzen - who founded the 'World of Warcraft' software in 1994 - is working closely with scriptwriters on the storyline.

The movie is expected to be a box-office hit following the huge international success of the series of video games.

'World of the Warcraft' has seen massive online success as a multi-player fighting game and sales of the latest version 'Wrath of the Lich King' sold over four million copies in the first month.

We all know how most of the video game based movies turned out to be...I seriously hope they don't screw this one up. It won't be on my must watch ASAP movies, but I am looking forward to it...even though we are a ways from it lol.

Sam Raimi is the worst person they could of picked to direct the movie, imo. I'm not looking forward to it, I'll wait and see what they do with it - I can't see this doing well though.

so far i know its will be more focus on the alliance storyline based on the comics

I sense an fail.. but warcraft being the game that it is will probably attract the game fans just to satisfy their curiosity... I'll keep my finger's crossed and hope that this doesn't end up like the other game to movie adaptations....

as far as I know Blizzard is overlooking the progress themselves so I think it's not going to fail and if it does fail not to an extreme level of fail

I just read in the game magazine I buy that Blizzard and Warner Bros make 100 million dollars available for the movie.

What, so they're modeling the world and script after WoW lore? Jaysus, that's gonna be steamy a pot o' shit-script Raimi'll have in his hands, more jumbled and inconsistent than the press in Orwellian-style dystopias.

From the gossip I've heard I take that it'll follow more the events of Warcraft III, from Thralls ascension to the seat of Warchief and the destruction of Archimonde... rather, I hope.

Well... there is a LOT of lore to make a really good movie out of it. At least Blizzard is probably going to prevent a cluster fuck since it is Blizzard.

I think they rejected Uwe Boll when he proposed to direct a Warcraft movie a long while ago.

Although this may be mediocre if it's live action I hope it will be as good as LOTR, just kidding I'll just wait for the Hobbit.

I'd make that deal.
