Even though hentai is not really my favorite thing, I would say, trying to view this from their side, that hentai is pathetic because it is porn that has taken a step towards irrealism. In other words, porn is, at least to most people, a substitute for sexual relationships but it still consists of real people having rael sex. Hentai is a substitute for sexual experience as well but they are drawn people. To the disappointment of many folks out there, you will never met an hentai character, therefore, it seems odd that you would be interested in it in the first place. Let's face it. Which is weirder? To watch porn and fantasize about Vanessa Lane or to watch hentai and fantasize about Asuka?

Another reason for this could be that hentai has achieved the, in my opinion, well attributed stereotype of being remarkably bizarre. At the risk of offending many people here, countless tentacles raping a fox girl who doesn't look a day over fourteen is weirder than extreme porn. Porn may, at times, be aggresive but, in comparison to hentai, it is rarely weird.

To answer your first question, I don't think hentai is good. It is just something I look up once in a while, a slightly rare while, when I am feeling bored with other materials. The only good thing about it, I would say is that, since no real people are involved, no one is hurt.

Lastly, I just want to point out that animefreak's comment is preposterous. Opinions are important and we should always confront them and, hopefully, discover the right one; that is the entire point of freedom of speech and debates. Opinions should affect your life and that is how you improve.

First of all, there is nothing inherently WRONG about hentai or any porn in general, really. In fact, there is nothing inherently wrong about ANYTHING sexual which two (or more) consenting adults can choose to partake in. It is merely a matter of your -own- comfort level and your -own- moral judgment which decide what something is or is not acceptable for YOU, but those judgments do not stand for the rest of society nor should they ever.

Rather then get offended that others don't see eye-to-eye with you about certain things, ask yourself why you get offended in the first place. Masturbation is essentially a very private act, and what you choose to masturbate to is your own decision. Why is it then that anyone else's thoughts on it should matter? If you enjoy something that is within your rights to reasonably enjoy, then you are free to do so without consideration of others' ideas on the matter.

In my opinion, hentai is no better or worse then any other, but I do find it more enjoyable for ME on a regular basis then what would constitute as regular, run-of-the-mill porn. I don't think it is a matter of fantasizing about THE PERSONS involved as nateriver10 suggested, but entirely about fantasizing about the situation or the acts themselves which are taking place. Firstly: you're asking the wrong people. Everyone (or at least the majority) in this community sees nothing wrong in hentai.

Hentai is subculture. It's acceptable in some parts of society but not as a whole. People can look at you positively or negatively if you were in other subcultures like if you're into goth, marijuana, homosexuality, biker, bdsm and etc. Doesn't make you good or bad, just a person with specific tastes. Productive wise, hentai is great as a fantasy ventilation and seems to draw along the lines of more stigma and criticism than children playing too much video games.
