When Do You Listen to Music?
0
Recently, I've run into some trouble. I have some music I want to listen to, but I can't seem to be able to. This problem doesn't involve not actually being able to play the music; I simply can find nothing to do while listening to the music.
I'm not the sort of person who can sit and listen to music and do nothing else. I mean, I can just sit and listen to songs every now and then, but there's definitely no way I could do that with a full-length album.
I listen to a lot of music when I'm reading (manga, comics, or books), but while reading, I only listen to foreign stuff, instrumental stuff, or dance music. If I can understand the lyrics, then it distracts me. I sometimes listen to music while playing games, but everything I'm playing now requires the sound be turned on. All I have at the moment that I can play with my own music in the background is Solitaire, and that shit gets old fast.
Anyways, this predicament got me to thinking - when am I supposed to listen to music? And when do other people normally listen to music? Thus, this thread is created.
So, spill it. When do you listen to music? Do you have to be doing anything while listening? Is there any type of music that you can't play while doing something, but you do have to have some sort of music on?

I've run into similar problems before. Playing mindless games is good. I can listen sometimes at work depending on what I'm doing. I work in a restaurant kitchen, and when cooking on line, you need to comunicate with other people, but doing things like dish or prep work, were you just have a job set in front of you that you must do, and you're by yourself, you can just listen to music. For me personally, I work better listening to music, because I can ignore everything but what I'm doing.
But...I don't know what you do for a living. So...clean your house or something, listen to music doing that.

Pretty much all the time, exceptions are when I'm sleeping or in a place with lots of other people.
When I'm playing games which require sound I usually just turn down the music volume. Even when I'm in ventrillo or voice in general I have music running, just really quiet. When you're distracted by music with lyrics, I guess the only thing you can do is listening to instrumentals instead. =P

Most of the time I'm likely to be listening to it on my 15 minute commute to work or school(Both are relatively in the same area) But then I do listen to music while I'm cleaning.

Usually while doing homework, gaming, when winding down for a nap, or when I'm traveling (on foot or otherwise). Up until pretty much today I listened to music or podcasts while reading/reviewing notes but I realised that I get less distracted if I'm not switching songs or whatever every five minutes.

When going to school.
When going to places in general.
When doing RPG-grinding.
I also have some in the background sometimes while working, to isolate me and enable me to focus, but I don't really listen then, I just want to not hear anything else.
I guess you can have it in the background whenever you want, althought I myself don't really think it is that meaningful or the kind of listening you want to make time for.
I'd recommend you to just listen to it, sit down and listen to some songs until you get bored. It may be abit tiresome, but doing things seriously is mostly tiresome, but worht it in the end, so I don't see how listening to music could be an exception.

I always do it when I have to train my guys on an RPG because having no audio while training feels right anyway. As a plus, whenever I listen to music while training/leveling up my guys, it always seems to give me extra juice to train longer. Sometimes I'll spin an album two full times before it gets old.

Dude I totally feel you. My friends are always bitching, trying to say that I listen to music way too often. Most of the time, when my CD player goes out, it is because I burn the motors out. I think I've burnt out three or so of my CD players like that.

Basically I listen to music all the time, especially if I'm alone. The times I don't listen to music while alone, is more or less only when trying to sleep. I used to listen to music while falling to sleep, but I've sort of stopped it over the years. I guess I lack a proper sleep-function for my winamp (no stereo with sleep-function anymore).
I also enjoy singing to most of my music, but the walls and doors where I live dont isolate sound well and I guess I'm kinda shy towards the ones I live with.
Something else I enjoy about listening to music, is just sitting in a really comfortable chair (or the likes) and listening to my favourite music while closing my eyes. Some songs send shivers down my spine. It's awesome.

I listen to music in various times, riding the bus/in a car, walking around, engaging people in combat, etc.

Every waking moment that I can. My music stops only when I need the speakers for something else such as porn/hentai, watching an anime or a movie. Other than that my music stops when I sleep.

Maybe I'm just odd, but I generally like to keep things quiet whenever I am doing work, or even just to have some time of silence during my day.
Perhaps it is because I spend so much time either playing or listening to and analyzing music, but I have to have my breaks from noise in general or I'll go insane.
