Who/What saved your childhood?
-1
Even though there were some hard times in our childhood, we still had some things that saved us from complete destruction.
What saved your childhood?
Mine would be television and video games, it cut me off from any problems and helped me forget about anything that makes me sad or scared.
Yes even going out with friends and playing tag and hide-and-seek.
I can't say my childhood was 100% awesome, was a victim of domestic violence and also a victim of bad families. ( Uncles and such )
Pretty much abuse was my childhood issue, but thank God there were things that saved me from becoming the next joker.
However in the end, I managed to change the ways of my Mother and Father since they are young parents and now I am happy that we are as tight as steel molten together.
If it weren't for the Power Rangers and friends, Super Nintendo and also Nintendo 64, including anime ... then I would have never been alive at this point.
Oh and Goku was my biggest inspiration to be strong and never give up.

[color=red]-My PSX.
-My football friends (special mention to R*****, who saved me when I drowned on the river. I might get hydrophobia or worse, death if he didn't saved me)
-My skateboard
My childhood was quite awesome, meanwhile my puberty, nope.

My childhood isn't as worse as the OP but PSX certainly helped me gain friends who I still meet 20 years later.

Video games (specifically the N64),
I Love immersing myself in a fantasy world(s)... I Have social anxiety, and video games (later on anime) lets me escape everybody in the real world for a world where the land of Caldera need s nameless hero to stop all the ravenous thieves.

Sailor Moon. ^This. My bro, sis, and I totally bonded over this in our childhood. I remember we even had matching Sailormoon shirts at one point.
There's also the Disney classics, which helped me in so many ways. They even remind me of the happier times I had with my family before my dad left us(or rather, was kicked out).
After that, I believe Harry Potter changed my life. The series was just so inspiring for me. I can't really put it into words as to how it did, but it's something I consider to be an integral part of my childhood.

X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons made my childhood days more enjoyable, as well as viewing rare anime like Teknoman at the time.

Not really saving, but before I looked for solace in music these days, I'd always look forward to whatever anime was on during those days. Namely Rurouni Kenshin, Ninku, Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon. Oh, and Digimon too. And Shaman King.

My smaller sister. Because she's the one person in the world that I care for the most, and that whenever I feel like letting go, I just think of her and how that would let her down, and I get back up just like in the song from Chumbawumba.

Originally Bangladesh. Everything from the States comes late here, and stays for a long time too (reruns). Hell, just recently we lost the oldie goodies of Cartoon Network, and started to get the shit. No Adventure Time or Regular Show, though. ):

Not too far off, actually. The one time we stayed in Flipland, the shows in Cartoon Network were almost the same as back in Bangladesh. Their Toonami lineup was ahead of us, though.
