[WIP] GN-001 DGS Exia Alyattes
1

Hello all,
This is my first WIP thread so i hope you can enjoy it.
I'm pretty sure you're all pretty sick of seeing all the OBB Exia's that have been popping out since the MG release.
So heres hoping that this'll be unique enough to pique your interest.
This is only my third gunpla, and i'll be taking a step into the world of plaplates and modeling saws.
If you recall my previous work, the RX-001 UnicoÑn-λ, my taste hasn't changed too much so hopefullly if you liked that one,
you'll like this one too.
This is the original mock up i had in photoshop.

*NOTE: the current stage and vision of the finished product has changed quite drastically.
The original mods consisted of.......
-Change the front skirt
-Add side skirts
-Open the shoulder Flap
-Point out the knees
-(Not in the picture but...) Add a katana
-Custom decals
-The biggest mod, which you cant see in the picture is the addition of a new furnace.
DGS stands for the "David and Goliath System" consisting of 2 independant hyper particle accelerator + compressor units.
but now, its strayed away from that quite a bit. As i keep adding more and more to it ><

Heres a quick shot of it in its WIP stage.
Currently working on the skirt right now, extending it by 3.5 centimeters hasn't been easy for me but its certainly a good
learning experience.
I'll be posting bigger changes here,
For the rest of the smaller ones and more detailed commentary, follow my blog =]
You'll find a lot more info concerning it here

That is pretty damn nice. Might be in the wrong section though. Looking forward to the finished product

I really love seeing some original Gundams being made.
Just a funny question:
How many Gundams did you sacrifice to make this one? :D

I totally dug this post. +rep for awesomeness. My gundam collection pales in comparison to your godly skills. (I have yet to make a PG gundam...)

Dude that's a sick ass custom Exia! I look forward to when it's finished.
And Kai it looks like he might have used Wing ver. Ka.

You guys are awesome to say the least xD
always nice to see some other gundam funs out there =]
For the kit bashing. So far i've used the 1/144 apparition from linebarrels and the wing ver ka, and the astray red frame (but only for the katana). The double V fin and the new ears are courtesy of the wing ver ka, the new ankle piece as well. Its not pictured here (i will in the next photoshoot) but both the front/back/side skirts are from the apparition (and i must say they look badass).
So right now, i just finish the neck mod. Original exia had a static ball joint for the head which was silly. I replaced that with the wing ver ka neck joint and added about 30-45 degrees of motion in the neck.
Almost finished extending the right skirt. When i put it together and compared it to the leg...it was way too short. Like an adult wearing child's cloths, just didn't looks right. So i cut it in half, shoved from plaplate inbetween and now its 3.5cm longer :D
I'll also picture the torso mod i did also. Original exia had a single double ball joint, which is perfectly fine, but it was far too low. So i cut that piece in half too, added like...0.5 cm? and that boosted it from 30 degrees to about...60-75 degrees of motion?
As for time logged into this project lol...so far its been well over 25 hours at least of just sanding and priming and checking and stuff. Course, alot of the time was spent figuring out HOW to do the mod in my head but its totally worth it seems.
Once again, thanks for all the comments, i'll be sure to keep you guys posted :D

Nice! Keep it up, don't forget to post the image of the finished project here.
I have a question though, how do you make custom decals for your plamo?

maybe its one of those wax sheets where you can print and make your own decals...that stuff is very hard to find...

Custom decals, i'm getting samuel decal to print them for me.
Otherwise you can use an ALPS printer that can print white,
or you can buy the decal sheets, print your design onto it, and cut it out.
now for todays update! :D

So heres the next update.
- Neck mod : Increasing mobility by about 30-40 degrees
- Torso mod : Increasing mobility of the torso by about 45-50 degrees
- Skirt mod : Extend skirt by 3.5 cm by using plaplates
- Head mods : Almost finished version of the head, addition of detailing + painting

A few things i need some opinions on
1) For the V-fin, you see the square in the middle...what color would you like to see there. I considered leaving it white, i also considered hand-painting it metallic blue/green?
2) On the side skirt, i'm planning to have a simple white celestial being decal similar to the principality of zeon decals on the zaku shoulders, approve?
3) About to start on my DGS furnace, i was planning on make it white with a bit of metal like the original GN furnaces, approve?

Man that's wicked!
Puts my skills to shame (have done several custom paint jobs).
I too am looking forward to the finished product. As for the square in the v-fin, I'm voting the blue. Green seems kinda outta place, dunno why though. But blue would make it look sexy. I also do agree with the simple white celestial being decal. As for the furnace, hmm. If it was me, white with some silver or metallic silver will make it pop in a subtle way.

that's what i was tihnking too.
theres a ring shape on the furnace so i was going to use mr super metallic on that and buff it so it has a nice shine. i would've used alcad but i cant find a retailer that carries it =[
apologize for the lack of updates btw...final exams really suck but they'll be done next week and i plan to start working on exia again when that happens. I'm also considering making a series of tutorial videos for noobies moving into the airbrushing scene =0
