YMCA or a martial art

I am an indecisive person so I'll ask you guys I want to work out at the Y yet I want to learn a martial art, I don't want to spend that much money. So whats your opinion?

YMCA is cheap compared to a martial art. However, if you go to the Y, you have to be self motivated to work out and not just half ass things.
Martial arts on the other hand is expensive but you'll learn stuff and have a great time. Plus you'll be sparring with other people and that alone is a workout.
I'd say go for martial arts if your unmotivated like me. If you are motivated to exercise and what not and your on a small budget, go to the Y.

If your really into martial arts, you can self learn by looking, reading books and watching videos. It's more about the individual willing to learn rather than the money expenses itself.

Well, if you're not self-motivated, you won't get very far with MA anyway. I'd suggest a membership at the Y.

The difference was that martial arts lessons didn't have a pool (usually).

You can work-out with no tools... just a floor and motivation.
I don't get the point of going to YMCA.
But If I were to choose between YMCA or Martial Art, I would choose Martial Art because you can learn different self-defense moves and have fun improving your abilities with other people and not alone

As it has been said, if you're unmotivated going to YMCA (Which is suppose is a gym or fitness center? Correct me if I'm wrong) will be a bad idea, since you'll probably wind up just wasting money on something you won't do/do half-hearted.
But if you go train martial arts, or any sport for that matter, where you'll have other people to train with and certain times to be there it will probably be more fun and easier to get motivated to go.
No you can't, seriously. More moves than not can strain the muscles in bad ways if you practice them wrong. There is no harm in looking up stuff in videos and books, but you'll need someone to correct you if you're doing something wrong. Speaking from own experience, I almost snapped the muscles in my back. (Well, there was more circumstances than just practicing wrong, but it was still a big factor)

I'd suggest a membership at the Y.Well, if you take MA, you meet new people and you develop an interest whereas you go to the Y, it's pretty much go there and do what you like: run on the treadmill, lift weights, swim and occasionally near me there is pickup basketball. There's no schedule that forces you (unless your self motivated), no one telling you to get warmed up and join the group. Etc...
The Y near me is cheaper than the martial arts. Just a FYI.
