The first I collected were Pokemon no one knew how to actually play the game. The first I collected and knew how to play was Magic: The Gathering.

Pokemon for this kid, but I've long since passed my cards down to other, younger members of my family.

I liked plenty of the shows growin up but I never got into the anime card games, so I'd say either "old maid" or "war" was my first card game.

Pokemon though I never played with them I didn't know how.
Yugioh Though I didn't know any one who played so when I played with my friend he always needed to use my cards.

Solitaire. Then Pokémon cards. Collected them, never played. Then I played the Pokémon TCG for the GameBoy colour. Confusing at first, but you get used to it.
