Boy Scouts

okay first can we please keep this serious for at least 1-2pages!
[size=8](I know bringing up boy scouts at a hentai forum is like mentioning the Catholic Church, or that a burn just seems twice as effective if its implied how middle aged men prey on unsuspecting little boys, hahaha)[/h]
Any way, I want some serious answers here, how many of us have gone threw some boy scouting/girl scouting for the females. Feel free to add reasons why you got into it , friends, family forced you, needed something to do etc, and how long you stayed with it and why you left, and any fun memories you might have. I am really interested in knowing. Earlier I asked about musical talent and I'd like to see if there's is any connection.
So I'll stick my story here in a spoiler so you don't have to bother reading anymore if you don't want to.

I was in the scouts. I'm an Eagle scout now dang that was tough. I loved scouting just hated the people around me at the time.

I went to middle school and high school with a kid who was in the Boy Scouts. I was friends with the guy, but when another friend and I heard that he used to be in the Boy Scouts, we made fun of him relentlessly.
I don't really see the point of the Boy Scouts. Kids learn how to do stuff like make fires? That's cool, but I have this thing called a lighter, and I can make fires, too. You can build a tent? That's nice, but I have a house I sleep in. You can catch fish? That's neat, but I usually just go to the store.
And so on . . .
Before anybody pounces on me, I'm not saying that I think people who were in the Boy Scouts are stupid or anything like that. I just don't understand it. And when I say, "I just don't understand it," I'm not asking for intricate explanations on how I'm dumb and how the Boy Scouts are the best thing in the world, or whatever. So, if you're reading this post and thinking about giving Shaggy a good talking-to about the pros of the Boy Scouts, you can stop right now and spend your time doing something more productive.

I don't really care about scouts or anything. If you like it, that's cool, I just don't generally like group things because I probably wont like being around most of the people in the group.
But when I was really little, and my parents still thought it was a good idea for us to be involved in church, I was in the christian version of boy scouts, the Royal Rangers. It's pretty much the Boy Scouts, but with a greater emphasis on religion. It wasn't too bad, other than the fact that most of the other boys were idiots/pricks/jackasses, and it was all...religiony.
But I got out of that at a young age, as I did religion in general.

I joined Scouting when I was in first year high, until now. While many of the people around me think that it was like, bullshit or crap, I find it fun. For me, scouting is not only learning what's written in the book and applying it, it's all a simple understanding of what the world is like when there were no cars, buildings, and the like. It's like a trip back to nature and learning nature's ways of living life without technology.

hahaha...i joined it in my middle school out of boredom. my school lacked most co-curricular activities and the scouts are among the few there is. since most of my friends joined it and i got nothing much better to do anyway, i joined it. my middle school is a boarding school so i can't get out to the cities. i'm awed by their enthusiasm to actually learn stuff like making fires, catching fish and all that, but hey, at least that did kill my boredom during my hellish middle school years. and learning new stuff is never bad, don't you think?

I've never been in boy scouts and never really wanted to be, but I have spent a lot of time out doors. I learned a lot about the out doors from my dad when we would go hiking together and whenever we went camping.
I can't do most of the survival stuff that scouts can do, as I forgot how to tie the different knots my dad showed me, but I think I know enough to not panic if like my plane crashed and I survived or something like that.
And it's always cool to learn something useful for different situations.
Oh yeah, and I am also musically inclined, I commented in the musical talent thread.

I was in a type of girl scouts, basically the level below them because I was so young. They're called brownies.
Some things I remember from it was once we went to camp and the only thing I remember is making home made ice cream by putting it in a big can and kicking it down a long road for a long time.
I had a best friend there, we were friends for years but since I moved so much we just split apart. Plus our lives took huge different turns.
But when we were young in the brownies we did that once, normally we'd just meet at a local church and sing songs, read, play games, sometimes cook. We learned how to make crafts etc.
There was one song I remember loving to sing but I can't remember the words anymore.
We did girl scout cookies of course. We got badges, for what I forget. It's not like we had things to accomplish like the boy scouts do.
Yeea, I never became a girlscout, quit before that.

Yup, I was a boy scout. I started out in cubs and then moved onto scouts. The reason I joined was my mother was trying to get me to do new things. It was her last push to try and get me to do something (I had already done numerous activites before but had dropped them due to them being boring)
I got quite a few badges and got to a pretty high rank. I also had to carry the flag a couple of times on Remembrance Sunday. I remember it being pretty damn heavy and had me wobbling all over the place.
Then when I grew to old, I popped over to Scouts and just lost interest, not getting a single badge and generally not enjoying myself. The whole aspect of sleeping in a tent on cold, hard ground didn't go well with me. Ended up dropping it.
Couple months later the Scout master was arrested for having CP on his computer and was convicted a pedophile. Good thing I left when I did eh

Not that it takes a pedophile to be a Scout Master, but does it really SURPRISE you when they turn out to be one?
come on...

I was in scouting for 10 years. (I think...) I joined beavers at age 6, moved up to cubs at age 10, and moved from there to scouts at age 13. I had to leave there at age 17 because I was too old. I met my best friends there, and even now, we are all still best buds. Scouts in my area was a good experience, living in rural Canada, we could actually use the skills that we learned on almost a daily basis. Our group was small, (Consisting of a maximum of 15 people at one point.) but it was better that way, we had great leaders, and we got to do things that a lot of larger groups couldn't.
In the end, I'm glad I joined scouting. It has taught me many useful things, and made me into the respectful, (hentai loving) guy that I am today.
