Censorship
Is Censorship Necessary or UnNecessary?

I am far against censorship. Mainly because it is a constitutional right to have freedom of speech and all the jazz. Even nudeness should be shown. By giving that type of power to the government of todays world is complete blasphemy! Why should they censor things such as curse words? Why should they censor people when they're nude? Why should they censor anything? If the parents today can't get up off their lazy asses and change the channel, then what right does the government have to control what we watch, see, or hear? I can't understand how this all got started(...angry parents yelling at the government about the stuff they saw on T.V. or what their kids were getting into on the computers). For any of this shit thats going on...you have no one to blame but yourselves, meaning parents not you guys. There will always be nakedness here nakedness there, curse words here or curse word there. But if they can't just take responsibility for what their own kids are doing, then what right do they have to complain?
I really don't care too much about it because it takes a weight off of parents shoulders, thus making them too lax about what their kids actually do behind their backs. "Yes, my son is an angel. He has never once seen bare breast or a vagina. Thanks to this censorship he doesn't even know a single curse word." Says a mother to a friend. While at that very moment the son says to a friend, "Hey dude, check out this shit I found! The tightest looking pussies you'll ever find!"
The point is, because of censorship parents think that they are protected from "evil". While in fact they are more vonarible(spelling might be wrong X_x). Because of the lack off public access to these things, the children are more prone to finding out what they want to know. And they usually find out in the bad or harmful ways. If there was less or no censorship, the parents would be better at educating a teen/kid about things like sex. But the fact still remains that there is censorship and that kids will still be on porn sites because of it.(More than there would be if there was no censorship at least.)
End of rant-sorry to bore you to death.

In my opinon, censorship should be based on accessibility.
Here's how I would incorporate the perfect censorship into society.
(1. Do kids have access to it?
If so go to condition AB conditions.
A. Can the parents restrict this access? (EX: cable tv?)
B. Can this be prevented/excluded from public tax-driven places? (Schools, Libraries, so on.)
If you answer YES to all these questions, then I think the material in question should NOT be censored.
IF you answer NO, it needs some censorship.
One thing I am strong against: People playing offensive music in public, (especially certain RAP songs that clearly promote killing and drugs)
Parents have no way to prevent their kids from hearing these songs, and that's why it should be illegal to play them in public areas.
But as for say, a violent CABLE show... well parent has easy access to block that material.
The point is, you should give parents the ability to raise their children the best they can, and that to me, is the whole point of censorship. After they reach a certain age, they can make decisions for themselves.

8) Well said. Censorship is a little bit like a double-edge sword. It can protect kids from see immitatable actions, but it also can potentially cut off educational content. Some things educational can be violent and sexual. It can be the same way in real life. You can censor some of what you hear, but you can censor one's actions or what you see.

So, it seems like people will mostly agree to censorship to "protect the children". That's nice, but seriously, what about OUR protection, everyone's? Would you want to see this television show broadcast on national tv "How to Make Bombs and Deadly Posions With Household Goods in 30 Minutes or Less!"? That show sounds like it has a lot of educational content, but I sure wouldn't want it aired because I know 99.99999999999999999999999% that some idiot nutcase out there is going to do something stupid with the knowledge.
Considering the world we live in, are there really any arguments for total non-censorship of all materials? Would you still say that censorship in any form is wrong if someone you cared about is shredded by a pipe bomb made by some dumbass who saw how do it on TV and then just "wanted to try making one, I didn't think it would be dangerous duhhh"? That's just one example of bad stuff that could happen, there are plenty of others
- Dim-witted rapist "But the girl on TV looked like she was enjoying it!"
- Terrorists "Yeah we know when to run because we watch your troop movements on CNN".
- Idiot Investor "But the newspaper said Wind Powered Personal Fans were the next big thing, now I can't feed my family =(".
- Stupid Evil Guy With Internet Access "I never woulda figured out how ta catch and torture all dose people widdout de innernet".
So come on, doesn't everyone agree that censorship is necessary?

Minsc doesn't believe that adult material should have censorship, simply because: Who's to say what should and shouldn't be censored? Adults can make up their own mind, and can be held accountable for their actions, however, children are easier influenced, and that's why it's important to protect a growing mind.

Lol Loving the front page of Fakku. Everyone leave a message their saying that Fakku is not evil. In fact lets all promote instead. Its one thing to censor things for protection, its another to do it just because it is your own personal belief that you think it is wrong, especially if the majority of the people think it is fine.
That is really argumentative though... refer to my earlier posts on my beliefs on this subject.
Everyone Go Promote Fakku and save it from the evils of censorship! (lol)

I grew up on the Terminator movies and war movies like Saving Private Ryan. And yes, people might consider me to be a little violent but I still haven't found out why that's a bad thing. In most every action movie, the good guy always wins. Sure, he/she might use extreme means to go about doing that but sometimes that's what is required. So yeah, you cannot get away from violence because it is in our nature.
But then again, violence is not always the best way to solve problems. Never gotten into a physical fight my whole life. I was always taught that it was the last resort, but sometimes necessary.

[size=12]I don't think censorship is needed at all. Don't you think that majority of the people who find the stuff that's censored already have a pretty good idea what's there? Like just yesterday at the library, I heard elementary kids cursing their little brain out and within the bunch there were 2 little girls looking at a magazine discussing whether the guy is gay or hot. Meaning kids know how to and what cursing is and they also know the difference between boys and girls. One more thing, no matter how much people censor things, if a kid wants to find similar uncensored material, they probably can. So basically, either they futilely continue censoring things and waste their money/time or just keep things original.
To my knowledge, I haven't seen anything really censored in the US besides curse words on television. "Most of the censored images/videos comes from Japan, but after they get licensed in the US the uncensored version is then released" (this is something I read somewhere...don't remember when and where) [/h]

I think it all depends on the type of censorship. Instead of taking out all curse words and nudity a disclaimer could be used to inform parents of the content before the show, this would allow them to turn it off if they didn`t want someone in the room to see it.
Censoring video games can also be good and bad. Companies shouldn`t just censer scene because they don`t like the violence in it. However if the creators of the game realise their ESRB rating is AO and that they can get it down to M by blurring a couple scenes I can understand that.(Most stores don’t sell AO games)

AO is unnecessary. they sould just up the age of M games to 18 and not carry porn games in store. when people say AO it's really only one year older than an M game or R rated movie. A kid shouldn't be playing M games anyway. Maybe they could put a disclaimer on for "Extra violent" or "Extreme Nudity" but they don't need to ruin a perfectly good game for it. (I'm speaking more of manhunt 2 than anything else)
Edit: Oh! and don't put violence, obscenities and nudity on the box. That's just asking for trouble.

I agree. People, for the most part, have a choice in what they see or hear. As long as they are of the right age, why shouldn't people be able to see and hear what they want?

Personally I feel that there should and should not be censorship. I feel there should be censorship for the young as they have not context in which to evaluate what they may be seeing. I think most people would agree with me there.
However censorship for adults (about 18-ish) I think goes against the idea of free speech and thought. If you feel something is inappropriate for you, then simply ignore.
Personally I feel that Violence should be censored more than sexuality, as sexuality is part of being human, whether you choose to do it for more recreation or procreation is up to you. I feel that watching someone get their head blown off will do much more damage in the long run than seeing a nude man or woman. Many times, sexuality brings up more awkward conversations than violence may, so many perceive sexuality as a bigger threat to innocence.

Is censorship really needed? Who are we to decide what "Is" or "Is not" morally right? I am not a gung ho religious person so I don't believe everything in the Bible, especially because some books in it were censored by the Catholic Church long ago and cannot be included in the mainstream Bible now because of it. Despite my little tiff with religious views on what we should do, i believe that everybody is responsible for themselves, and should take responsibility for what they do or if something they do leads to something bad. If that were possible we wouldn't need to provide censorship to protect people. I don't know i just felt like getting this off my chest. I might post later with a better argument, but i believe that censorship in any form is wrong. (Especially when it comes to hentai lol)in this site, censorship is nonsense....

Hentai exists today because of censorship. Japanese artists were learning to show more while revealing less, which meant having to be able to make a sexy pose without having to show a spread-eagled woman.

Tentacle-sex may not even exist today if not for Japan's censorship laws. Though I am thankful for the way things turned out, it'd still be good to lose the censorship in Japan. Artists have stopped trying new things out; they just draw the sex right there and let it all be censored.
