Decisions, decisions...

Just something that popped up in my mind.

You stand before a choice that will have an impact on all of humanity. You have two choices.

1. The first choice will result in you dieing, but it will be for the benefit of many, many people, and all of humanity will remember you as a hero, the elders will tell stories of you to their grandchildren etc.

or

2. The second choise will result in you living, with wealth and power, more than you ever dreamed of, but a lot of people will suffer and die for what you did, and most of them will hate you for it,

What would you do?

Actually, I have another version as well. The question is the same, but the choices are different.

3. You will die, but what you do will be for the benefit of many, many people, but no one will remember you for it, or even know that you did it, or what you did.

or

4. Well, the pople will suffer and die, you will get rich and powerfull etc (same as 2) but no one will hate you, since no one will know it was you who did it. More of a moral question, can you live with yourself after doing something so horrible?

Lets say that the bad thing is over 9000 times as bad as the Holocaust (in terms of how evil it will be considered, not in terms of how many people dies or w/e)

Choose 1 or 2 and 3 or 4 and discuss.

In 3. you did not state wether you live or die.

Assuming you live but suffer severe consequences... I want to say i'd choose for selflishness, but i would doubtlessly be selfish nontheless... I can be a very uncaring guy.
Of course, if the economy were to collapse and the obtained wealth would be worthless i wouldn't choose that.

It's a situational case.

I've always believed that humanity was most important. To sacrifice your life to save others is always good, even if some of those people may be complete dicks. Maybe some good might come out of those that might have been saved and will contribute back to the world.

Plus I've always wanted to be remembered for doing something.

I'd go with 1 for the first set and 4 for the next one~

Being hated by so many won't get me a happy life even with all riches, I'd rather die a hero.
But if no one's going to hate me and I can kill people and get rich for it... why not? The world has way too many people anyway~

In conclusion: I'd go with choice 4. Being sadistic and materialistic to infinite ends it suits me just fine!

3 I'll help people but I don't care about fame. I'd rather stay out of the public eye due to my identity anyway.

I would like to save everyone but I wouldn't want to be thanked for it so I'll be happy to know that I died unknown at the time and have very few people suffer because I'm gone, because they knew me when I was alive.

i think a end like that would be perfect for me.

1 or 3. Preferably 1, because I would like to go of with a bang, being remembered and honored forever. But if my death would greatly benefit mankind, I probably would accept my death even if no one would remember me.

I don't think I would be able to live with myself screwing mankind over for personal benefit.

I chose 2 just because Im a selfish bastard who does not want to die for nothing. I cant take fame and glory to me in the coffin, nor can I take it into the afterlife. I would choose 2 and live a comfortable life in isolation while contributing to charity to help the world to ease my self concious even if the world does not know or care and continues to hate me, as long as Im alive and enjoying my life by wealth.

4 and doing probabbly the same thing, better, I can do charity and be a Mr.Good Guy with a little secret.

The problem I have with this is the remembering me part. I'll be too dead to give a fuck what people think of me. Strike this one.

Well, it actually don't have to have anything to do with killing jews. I just used it as a comparison to how evil people would think you are. How many people who died in the holocaust doesn't matter, it is how evil the world thinks the guys who did the holocaust that matters. If you get what I mean.... Gah, lets just say that the thing you do will be considered totally, very much EVIL, it doesn't matter exactly what you did.

1 and 3, I just cant live with that kind of stuff on my conscience... unless 4 can be changed.

1 or 3 cuz fame isn't really an issue. It will benefit all of humanity, so I'm fine with it as long as I make the choice after I have some kids of my own. That way I can die knowing that somebody I care about can live a better life than I did.

Also, why do these choices seem so similar to the ones presented to you at the end of Fable 2?

I vote for two. Yeah, people will hate me, but through the power and money I gain, I can help more people. Basically, the people will hate me are the ones victimized and the ones I don't get to help (for reasons like, i dunno, perhaps I don't even know them or they won't come to me for help?)

Its the cycle of life, others must suffer for one to live, but its what makes everything work. The only thing we can do to atone for their suffering is to live our current lives to the fullest.

Plus I'm a jerk, so yay for no.2!

Well, this is all dependent on a few more variables, if loved ones are going to get killed due to whatever this disaster is then I'd pick 1 or 3 pretty much everytime, but since that's not specified...my conscience would hate me for it, but I'd pick 2 and 4.

Sure I'd like to do good for humanity and have people love me for it, but if I'm dead it's a bit bitter sweet for my tastes. With choice 2 I may have caused a disaster of some sort, but I can use my untold wealth and power to benefit others more than how much I hurt others.

As for 3, this is somewhat less appealing due to noone knowing I saved the world (and some jackass is gonna stake claim to it probably) so it makes it even harder to want to do the right thing for me (selfish I know). With 4, noone will know what I did so I can go into the public eye safely and help as many people as possible with my wealth and power.

Honestly, I believe I could reach for the greater good with options 2 and 4. Sure, sacrafices obviously have to be made, but I'm positive I could benefit more people if I had the means to do so.

Coincidence, since I haven't played Fable 2.

Fame is not my main concern, so i would rather save people and not have them remember me!

1's a guarantee, I wouldn't wanna be rich and powerful if eveyone hated me.

I'd like to say 4 too, but I probably wouldn't be able to live with myself after doing smething like that, and end up killing myself anyway, so I'd just choose 3.
