Do you think Fakku is coming to this?

No, this doesn't belong in random as the above video is the point of my topic. Watch it and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Do you think that Fakku is becoming that of what Foamy ranted about in the video, or do you think we're still above that? In my opinion, I've seen a few people around here who have the traits he's mentioned, but I was curious to see everyone else's input as well.

Definitely. I'll admit I am that way myself with a few people I consider to be rivals, for lack of a better term, here on Fakku. I've been on forums for many years now and I've seen this evolution. It has always been there, but it was never as progressively huge of a problem as it is today, and will probably continue to be in the future.
I don't mind it to some degree, fourms can be a great place to release some of that pent up frustration everyone has from any number of sources, but it is annoying when it becomes such a huge problem.
I don't think it has gotten to that level yet on Fakku, but I suppose that is only my point-of-view.
Believe it or not, I'm actually much better about it now than I was a few years ago. I used to get ostracised and/or banned from several forums over the past few years because of how opinionated and close-minded I was. I'm unfortunately still very opinionated concerning matters I care about, but I like to think I'm not so close-minded as I used to be. I do enjoy hearing what someone else has to say, even if they have a "bone to pick" with my views. Anyway, I digress...

If this doesn't give some people a wake up call, then I don't know what will (heck, whoever made this video is brilliant). People are people, we do all sorts of things. (But, treat people how you want to treated.)

If you hadn't post that video but written your own stuff on the whole matter, maybe based on the video, it would've looked so much better.
It's not a problem related to forums or FAKKU, but a problem related to individuality in itself. What annoys me the most on the whole topic of having "intellectual discussions" and "respecting people's opinion on a matter" is that it's mostly nothing but hypocrisy. People literally crave for intelligent, "open-minded" conversations, yet if someone runs up to them and plants several reasons of why they and their opinions are full of shit in their face they fail to be so, disregard that and simply live on happily forever without even considering the possibility of being wrong seeing it could hurt their "fragile ego", a term often used to brighten their days up in reference to someone who just busted them, and look for likewise idiots on forums to suck each other's cock through "respecting each other's different opinion".
I'm simply being honest with myself, if I have built up my opinion on a matter there is nothing to discuss about it for me (Hence I'm generally not taking part in discussions which involve conflicting opinions.). I'm a human, and I know to a certain extend of how the human brain and it's "individual" personality works, and I can in all honesty say that I see my own opinion as definite for me (As does every human being to some extend, deny it all you want.), and I don't need other people to discuss it with me to "build up my fragile ego", which is, ironically, exactly what the people do that blame others for it. Running around on forums, searching for "intelligent discussions", or rather, giving oneself the impression that oneself is an actual intelligent being worth having a discussion with is a prime example of being "close-minded" right there.
Prediction: People will disregard this post.

"And God forbid you bring up a different viewpoint. You'll see post after post of people calling you ignorant, stupid, or just some dumb faggot who doesn't know nothin'. This is bad people." -Foamy The Squirrel
In my opinion that was the best and the most accurate line in the video. On this forum, a lot of debates start simply because one user has a different view than another. Of course debates are good, for those who enjoy to debate. However, so many users feel that their points and beliefs are Godly and so they will post time after time again in an effort to convince you that what they believe is truth and should be set in stone and followed.
So sometimes, you can't even tell people how you feel without them shunning your opinion or trying to point out flaws in it and then use those flaws to back-up their own logic (even if what they say in response isn't true and has little, to nothing, to do with your flaw). <--That was probably the most complicated part of my post. I have a feeling it may not be easy to understand.
But anywho, I don't think our users are too close-minded, though we do have quite a few of the type. Wait, what the hell am I saying? We have a load of close minded-users. If we didn't, I doubt we'd have as much people being flamed, racist users (mostly in IRC), and people who are, simply put, dicks. I'd mention sexism but it's not too big an issue on Fakku, it seems nobody acts in that way anymore.
So overall, yeah there are quite a few people like this, a lot actually. But, it hasn't got out of hand.

To answer the topic; yes but, I think it's more than just Fakku affected by this. Another example of this is the comments on youtube videos.
I personally love an intelligent discussion where opposing views are made on a factual basis usually involving studies, news articles or various statistics. I've developed some pretty good friendships with a couple users from Fakku based on our arguments despite that their views are different from mine either extremely liberal or conservative. This kind of compare and contrast of opposing views and logic vs your own helps you fine tune your own views with information you may not have otherwise known.
HentaiElder made some valid points that I agree with 100%. We have some very open minded users but, at the same time we have some very close minded users as well. The ratio of which is left up to individual viewpoints.
Edit: I'll agree to a degree with Nacho since there are a few users out there that search for intelligent discussions in order to gain knowledge.

This guy seems to think very highly of himself and his rants seem pretty close minded to me. While he made some good points like how opposing views are bashed like atheism in a church. Though he blathers on about how people think so highly about themselves, expressing their opinions, and the fact that they are not reporters. What he doesn’t seem to understand is that forums are about opinions and thinking highly of your own shouldn’t be something to hate. While open-minded people are scarce on the internet is this something new? No people have always been close-minded it’s just the way people are. I at least like to think I’m open-minded on most issues, though thinking that your opinion matters shouldn’t be something that is considered arrogant. We (well some) live in a democracy were everyone’s opinion matters (well as long as it’s the majority opinion), opinion is what people are seeking on a forum, so it shouldn’t be discounted for being “arrogant”, because it’s what forums are about.
Fakku seems to have found a bad solution to this accidentally, though the system of rep. When your opinion doesn’t match the majority then you are not only attacked by posts but also – rep. I have seen many threads debates end, because of users saying they’re going to stop posting, because they are constantly receiving – rep.

I agree. People with opinions shouldn't be criticized for having a different opinion than the rest of the world. It's true that this is happening not only in this forum but the world in general. Nowadays, it seems that people can't take an opinion without taking it on a personal level. Most people are very closed-minded but i believe fakku is still at a pretty "safe" level compared to some of the forums out there.

I'd like to say I've been here long enough to agree with this, but I haven't. I have seen though, that most of the people here are more civil and polite than a lot of other forums I've had the displeasure of being a member of. I'm glad most of you know your manners
It's great to have conflicting views, otherwise all the conversations that got started would just turn into a circle jerk of people agreeing with each other. I love a good counterpoint. What I don't love is people who bring in the internet tough guy routine, and who think whatever social status they have in real life automatically carries over wherever they go.
Now as to what Gin said about people being naturally close-minded, I have a different version to offer. I'd like to think that most people are inherently curious about things they aren't aware of yet, but not conciously. People who are polite about hearing an opinion conflicting to theirs know what I'm about to say, the internet tough guys wont.
When someone hears a conflicting opinion, they will be quick to dismiss and correct. I view it as a rather off-hand way of asking for more information on why they think that way. I know from personal experience that if you get a person worked up enough, they'll give you their whole life story on why they think that way. What's unfortunate is that they usually lace the conversation with self-boosting to either A) Make themselves feel better. Or B) Make the other person feel like their opinion is incorrect.
The point is, even when you're shouting at each other, even if it's over the internet, you're still having a debate, and you'll learn from it. Like it or not

Opinions are like assholes everyone has one. You cant tell people what choices to make either. If they are a prick most likely they are going to stay a prick. Conflicting ideas have been around since forever. Not every person is going to see eye to eye, the best you can hope for is that they are smart enough to agree to disagree *and like The Beatles said* "LET IT BE"

Frankly that video made me lose some respect for Foamy and that's about it. It's not clever or new to point out a problem with the way people react to others that has existed before the internet even existed. Acting like it didn't happen on forums from day 2 of the internet (you have to at least establish the "sides") is ridiculous.
Sure, there are some who just brush off others opinions without a thought as being dumb because they don't agree or others around them don't agree. But for every one of those people there's another person who has seen the same dumb opinion be stated over and over again and is tired of explaining why it's incorrect and it would take the person voicing their opinion very little effort to look around and find other people who stated this same opinion and the original arguments for why it is a dumb opinion. It's bs to whine about people refusing to hear new opinions when most of the opinions they're blowing off aren't even close to new.
Yes there is a lot of dickstroking on the internet but that's no different from the real world. If you even think the amount is any higher on the internet than irl you're very mistaken. The only major difference is that it's easier to notice people doing it on the internet and that those who are doing it are being less subtle about it.
So yes, as humans we have a problem with wanting to have our egos stroked and being willing to stroke other's in return for them stroking ours. Do you have a solution for it? No. Stop trying to act like you're better than everyone else, you're not.

All i have to say that that has happened before and lucky for us we didn't have to suffer it for too long or have it become a huge problem
ive been in forums where everyone ganged up on someone just because he opposed the one of the posters but i'm glad that i'm here on Fakku, such a good place.

I haven't seen anything like this on Fakku, though that's probably because I don't hang around Serious Discussion very often. But from what I do see there is a lot of intelligent debate. Debates don't happen very often, again from what I've seen. People don't seem to get offended here because we are adults.
It doesn't appear as Fakku is coming to this.
Obviously that guy is going to the wrong forums.

Whoever makes this cartoon is a douche. I saw one of his cartoons on newgrounds where he spent 5 mins complaining that nobody holds doors for people anymore.
I feel like a moron for having seen a couple of this guy's cartoons where he just complains about random everyday bullshit. It would be better if he could make it funny instead of just ranting and dissing people in a tastless way.

Don't know what that has to do with the topic at hand (I could argue this with you since I'm a Foamy fan, but whatever.)
Moving on ...

Ah yes, this is a funny way to troll. Not that I'd do that here, trolling is only fun in /b or against crazy raging people. It's still relatively civilized here ^^
