(heard it earlier today, checked it, and now it's yours)
Today, a federal court in California ruled that the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy was unconstitutional.
I, personally can't get a straight answer form the others, but I'm into letting homosexuals openly serve. It's a civil rights issue. HOWEVER, the Army (can't speak for everyone else) was trying to ease the process. (Starting with an assload of surveys, enlisted, officer, spouse, I heard about them surveying kids)
This ruling fucks up the...process. I'm predicting a massive amount of people coming out, before they can put something in place. Morale and espirit de corps drops, somebody killed, and everybody looks like an asshole.

Quite honestly, I don't see where coming out while on active duty has it's priority. You're not hooking up with people, you're putting your life on the line to serve your country. The way I see it, if a homosexual wants to serve that's absolutely fine, and the way I see it - the military allows it.
They just don't want to hear about it. Why? Because it's not the time or place. Sure, there are people who don't like homosexuals, there are people who find it wrong - but it's not the time or place to speak of that either.
There's absolutely no necessity out of having you check a "sexuality" box. 10 years now we'll struggle having trans gender wanting to enlist with getting the same amount of respect as every other man/woman. That's great, however don't make it the focus - you're not going into the military to be different, to stand out, to make sure people respect you for who you are. You're going in there with a responsibility =\
Polls were already done and half if not more military personnel didn't even care, or would be fine with removing the policy so why this is a huge issue is beyond me. It's all about politics.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I don't think anyone cares if your gay when your the one protecting their back. However, I don't think they want to hear about it either. It isn't anything but politics as even after this I doubt any military personal are going to celebrate in the streets and start proposing to one another during military parades.
The idea was a good one, we wont ask you if you're gay, and you don't tell people if you are.

How can a policy be unconstitutional?
A ban is, but a policy? Bitch be on a power trip yo.

It is unconstitutional because the soldiers are over there to fight for what they believe in.
NOT TO FUCK ANYONE. I mean seriously. America has always been like this. First Indians, Then Blacks, Then Germans, Then Irish, Then Chinese, so on so on. And now Browns and Gays. I really wish that the Racist were not so color blind that they only see black and white.
But again I say those soldiers have fought bravely. I do not support the war but at least they are coming back home and this fighting will finally end after 9 years or how many years it has been if your reading this post from the future.

I think gays should be aloud to openly serve in the military with out any of this "don't ask don't tell" shit. What do we have to gain from preventing them from joining/kicking them out if its discovered? Nothing. We gain nothing. If we don't allow gays in the military two things happen:
1.We loses troops
2.We look like asshole's.

A ray of Tsunlight.
Most people in the service don't give a damn if you're gay or not.
It's all about trust. For those few people who don't like gay people and don't get along with them (Be it for religious or personal reasoning) they will naturally attempt to avoid those people, get assignments away from them, and even talk bad of them to get them in trouble and away from them.
The military is all about cohesion.
Especially in the Army and Marine Corps where you're on the ground fighting, you need to trust everyone around you without fail.
If even one person is slightly unsure, disaster can result.
That's how I see it anyway. (Used to be Navy, got discharged recently.)
As said with the Espirt De Corps and so forth.

It's unconstitutional because straight spouses of military men and women can get benefits, but what about gay spouses? No benefits, and if they find out you have a gay spouse you get kicked out of the military. How is that fair?

first of all the ruling is down right wrong but seriously who cares if your gay or not when there's bombs going off and bullets flying everywhere. I think that gays should be aloud to be in the military despite being unconstitutional because having a gay person helping u in battle is better then having no one helping you

A policy is just a guideline. It'd be like in a company where the policy is wearing suits is suddenly unconstitutional because the company is telling people that they think they should wear suits to work.
All the don't ask don't tell policy of the army means is "It's best not to tell people and show it and it's best not to dig into whether or not someone is because there are better things to do."
That's it. It's the army going "Well this would work best in our experience, so we will tell people that this would be the best thing to do."
It doesn't ban people or anything like that. It's just really strong advice to help avoid potential issues.
Cause there are better things to do in the Army, like survive a war.

But when that policy is pretty much a ban, it is unconstitutional.

As men in arms, we watch over each other.
On the battlefield, you are as my brother.
Watch the front, I'll guard the back.
Together we'll fight off, any attack.
I've got your rear, and you have mine.
Just don't shoot me, and we'll be fine.
For we are brothers, or sisters perhaps.
To whatever need, the situation adapts.
I care not who you are, or where you're from.
So long as it is, that you do nothing dumb.
If you're gay, it's o.k.
Just don't grab my ass, is all I say.
But if you do, I'll file a complaint.
So it's best for you, to have restraint.
As long as you comply, you can enlist.
For what I would like, this is the gist.

The Reason it was put into place in the first place, is due to the majority of people are intolerant of people for reasons such as sexual prefrence... just give it time if they do repeal it.... I can promise you, there will be hate crimes within our own military.

It doesn't and shouldn't matter.
Its all about people wanting attention in a place that needed no attention to be drawn. They don't care if you're gay, they don't care if you fuck goats. Keep it yourself, just like you don't stand up in a courtroom and tell the judge how much you love your boyfriend reaming your ass, or chat about it in the corporate office watercooler.
The don't ask don't tell is because it makes people uncomfortable still, and it depreciates your value and creates a situation that trust or confidence can be broken down because of it. You also don't need to tell anyone, just like you don't need to fucking shout out from the rooftops what god or religion you hail from. People who are such attention whores should die in a fire. They also feel the need to come out and yell these things about themselves but want zero criticism for it, even though they're only telling people for vindication of their own beliefs by acceptance of others.
