Emotionaly Numb

I'm pretty sure being insensitive/emotionally numb to some things doesn't immediately mark you as sick or anything... in fact, I'm pretty sure most of people have something like this nowadays.
Personally, I find myself insensitive to some things, but in return some things entirely normal to others can move me quite a lot.
Psychological diagnosis is always difficult, and the bottom line is that everyone will always have some kind of problem. In fact, people that are perfectly fine are anomalies by themselves.
And then there's a fact that different doctors may not always interpret the answers in same way that the questioned person intended them to be, but that's an inherent risk in all interviews.

Maybe your raw experience has made you more prepared to difficult situations than the average person with average experiences. If you actually are emotionally numb you should use that to your advantage job wise, just make sure your girlfriend/wife knows you love her. Don’t let it bother you; many people would kill to feel nothing. That’s why so many take drugs. Sorry I don’t know anything about your situation. All I can say is embrace it.

Hmmh. I wonder what it means to be emotionally numb... I mean I for one care about how my life will turn out after I have finished my studies, and for example what people think when they see me.
But then there are things that I am very numb to. I have friends, and I do like them, but I don't care for them nearly as much as most people do. I also don't have any reactions at all if something tragic happens. Also my emotions are pretty numb.
It is pretty hard to explain...but for example just recently one of my long time teachers turned out to be a sexual abuser of his students..meaning that I could have been one of those abused ones. I think I cared surprisingly little. Like someone had told me that an item I ordered will be a few days late. I liked that teacher (as a person) too..
So I have feelings for some things, thus I probably I am partially emotionally numb or something.

Perhaps you have a way of melding any difficult situation into an indifferent situation... It is a great trait to be able to carry... and many would kill for this trait.... You have a awesome ability to see through the smoke of emotion, and make clear decisions. Where the majority of us (people in general) are very easily influenced by emotion. So I wouldn't worry, you'll be fine.
I know I'm the Newbie here, but I just hope that I helped... even if it was just a little.

psychiatry an industry of death, great documentry...
but seriously the entire mental health industry is about as far from medical as it comes. theres a book they use called the DSM which lists all known mental health conditions... you know whats funny... thumb though it you will find that everyone has atleast one of these conditions listed in the book, To further things... Very few if any of those conditions listed in the dsm have Little to no, Medical backing.
its one big giant inusrance scam.... i recieved mental health services as a child at 7 years old...their solution PILLS!....oh look it made things worse... MORE PILLS!
looking back though the old records i have kept though the years... the more medication i was on the worse things got...basically its a mind game of them trying to convince you, you need to go see them so they can get that check from your insurance company. At 14 i came to realize what they were doing to me and i blatently told the doctor i Would never set foot in his office or any other mental health doctors again in my life.... the doctor replied "you are having a manic bipolar episode, and are unable to make decisions for your self" less than 24 hours later im locked in a mental health facality. where i had to quite literally fight for my life, and i will tell you something i will never be able to wash that blood off my hands.

Doesn't sound like an issue. Most guys are emotionally numb.
The problem with it is that it causes problems in relationships. It's not hard to change if you want to, read a few books on emotional intelligence and learn.

Sometimes numb people are actually just not letting themselves feel.
Sure, one can be jaded or desensitized, but for actual matters that should cause you to be emotional on a personal level, sometimes you need to release your fear of showing emotion and just let it all out.
I've found lots of people (often, guys) do this just to keep up appearances.

You got already a big solid database to work yourself into, so I'll keep it more on the pshycologcal side of it, which you won't find otherwhere easily.
It's simple. Emotions are ways of realising our surroundings and what happens on them. If you can rely on other way to explore and aknwolodge you surroudings, your brain will shut down what it's not needed until it's needed again. You don't need to worry, nor anyhing, it's as simple as told.
BUT these questionaries are not acurate. They're pretty inacurate actually, so you shouldn't believe on that easily. It's safe to believe, and safer to have a little doubt and curiosity. ;)
Emotions are personal. There's no other way to know if you're numb or no but by doing something you done once, felt something and remebers it and do it again, and hope for the same results, which prolly won't happen.
As I said before, i'll keep it on the more unsafe, or unsolid, side of it, sothere's not much to write about.
Good luck finding that out on your on.

Sorry, I just found this lil' thread today... (I can tell you why it's been ages since I've posted anything but it would've been too long)
Ya' see, I study psychology and I've been studying it since like what, the 8th grade?
Well, I must say that the current mental health institution isn't completely flawed per se but it lacks some pretty basic concepts... It's not always bout' the cash but more of a "Positivity solves all!" or "I've gotta follow the book" kinda thinking that makes these professions have less respect than they actually deserve...
Today, the greatest illnesses come in the form of the mind... Many physical illnesses can be rather easily treated...
Just look at the amount of hopeless, downtrodden, depressed and lonely individuals... Doesn't that tell ya' something?
Anyways, I must say that just because you're emotionally numb, it ain't gonna mean that you're suffering from some medical disorder of some sort... Though, mental and emotional problems do increase the likelihood of being emotionally bland/numb...
Hmm... This is interesting... Ain't sure if anyone's gonna come to this thread and respond but... I do hope that someone would stop by...
(P.S. Sorry If I came off a soundin' a lil' bit demandin' or egotistical but I'm just lonely that's all, so when I see these kinds of things, I can't help but respond to it...)

Gravity cat
the adequately amused
I'm glad someone brought this up, because that shows that I'm not the only one who goes through something like this. At times I just feel emotionally dead; when it comes to face to face interaction, I find myself unable to want to hold an interest in the person I'm talking to for long, I just feel like I want to back away and close up. When I meet someone new, I don't want to keep eye contact and most of the time I'm not even aware of it.
When it comes to relationships, after I find someone who I want to keep talking to, and they begin arguing with me over something, I can be a little too emotional and all sorts of thoughts and emotions can cloud my judgement, especially when they accuse me of something I didn't do or twist my actions to the worst possible scenario.
I suppose partly to blame is my uncle. He was a total cunt to me when I growing up so that kind of fucked me up emotionally. Still is now, but I'm able to talk back down to him seeing as he's in his mid 50's, has an obsession with vintage motorbikes, is my nan's beck and call (his mum) and has never had a girlfriend in my lifetime.
