Fate

What your opinion on 'Fate'.
1-Fate: Result of your decision.
The kind that life is a multi-optional scenario. Each choice give you a result in influence your live. Some are predictable, some aren't.
So if you choose to get out for buying some Hentai Dvd and get a death car accident. The because you choose to go at the 'good' time. You could have wait a few minute and escape it, or escape it by not going at all.
2-Fate: Linear already chosen for you.
The kind that all your choice, really aren't, even if you think they're. You life was a already finnish novel. All your move and choice was known.
If you try to say 'yeah, my fate is mine' that was already part of your fate to say that.
So if you drink by error a potion that change your sex and get gang rape in a strange bus(for men) or rape the girl that take the bus(if you're a girl). That was already decide for you!
I like to say that each choice I make change my destiny, but sometime I get the feeling that Fat srewing with me. That like...never try to challenge Fate, she'll kick you in the nut each day to punish you.
So, what your opinion? What kind of Fate do you believe in, or hope? Are their other kind of Fate?

I think that most of what happens to me is determined by other peoples actions, so in a way I am leaning mostly towards option two, meaning that I cannot influence my fate.
But in the end it is a mixture.

I've always believed that Fate gives your life kind of a skeletal structure or an outline. There are a set of predetermined events and meetings that will happen in your lifetime. What you choose to do about those events and meetings, however, is completely up to you and the people around you.
For example, you could be fated to meet someone who, given the right impression, will offer you a job position that will eventually lead to a great career. Free will allows you to greet that person cordially and intelligently or punch him square in the face. On the flip side, that same person could punch YOU in the face or decide to greet you in return. So, as Forrest Gump said, it's a little of both.

I belive in karma. your actions can effect what happens to you, but not nesicarily right away. i belive it can screw with you alot to. i have a friend who was always doing messed up crap to other people, but his bad karma seemed to be deflected onto people around him. he'd rip someone off, and a little later, i'd fall down some stairs. it caught up with him, he's in prison now for manslaghter. on the other side, i tell someone they dropped their wallet, or save someone from an injury, and i'd find something good, cash, drugs, etc..

Fate, to me, looks like the ultimate target to put your pent up anger when you have no other alternative. Fate, and God that is.
Some examples:
1. Why the hell didn't I pass the exam? DAMN YOU FATE/GOD! [yes..instead of thinking "fuck I didn't learn one bit.."]
--
2.She dumped me @ the altar. FATE IS CRUEL! [instead of asking self "didn't she act kind of odd ever since I proposed..hmm?" or something along those lines]
--
3.He/She had to die. WHYYY?! [this is by far the most example that get's Fate/God(mostly God) dragged in it. Death always has a multitude of factors, but they always want to blame it on something.]
Makes you wonder why the hell to we have this tendency of blaming things.[sometimes it gets preposterous] I'm guessing..it's probably easier.
So, in my opinion, fate is something humanity has named to take blame upon. Just like how in the past everything was the act of God, it was also fate's fault(regarding human-related actions).
Yes, your actions are influenced by the people around you, but not to the point where every second of your life is dictated by it, thus removing the "freedom" of it.
If Fate indeed existed, whoever planned it must've been a godlike genius. Connecting one thing to another, in the number of billions, and for eternity, that entity must've had a LOT of free time on it's hands.

The funny thing about the second type of fate you mentioned is the fact that if it's true, then nothing you say, do, or realize will change it. It's going to happen a certain way, no matter what. So, even if you realize that your life is being controlled by some other force, nothing will change.
Light mindfucking aside, I don't like to think of that type of fate as the universe knowing what you're going to do, and you can't change it. I prefer to think of it as, it's already happened, thus there's nothing you can do to change it. Imagine that all of time exists and doesn't move forward. It's just there, already. So, we're in this point of time, and there's a future that exists that is immutable, because it was created at the same time as the rest of time.
That stuff's fun to think about it, but really, it doesn't affect the world. As I said, if everything is going to happen a certain way, no matter what, then knowing about it isn't going to do a damn bit of good. Or bad. You have to just make decisions as if your decisions matter, and try to think of the future when you're making those decisions.

I would agree with part two.
I believe everything is predetermined, even if you could change it, changing your fate itself, was part of your fate too.

I believe in the 2nd answer.
No matter what I do, think, say, and feel, if it were to occur in the same exactly scenario, I would act the same way. From the beginning of time there has never been a random variable. Everything is predictable because everything will occur in a defined pattern even if humanity can't understand it. I don't believe that it is the result of divine influence, I just think that is how life is. A linear stream of "free will"
Free Will the Game
This sums up my thoughts on the subject pretty well.

I believe i once made a report on this, 1000 words long. To bad i cant seem to find it.
Since i'm sick i'll keep it bluntly, this is my opinion:
You start at A, and end at Z. That is a given, no discussion. Like being born and dieing.
However, at one part you get the choice between option B and C for example, if you choose B you will end up at Z pre-early, like a traphole.
If you had chosen C you would have gotten to the next set of choices, all in due time, of course.
You yourself determine HOW you get there, but there's no helping getting there.

i belive that fate is something given to us,but we can change it if we try our best.Even there is some fate that cannot be change like live spawn.

I don't believe in fate. They say one day, I will peacefully die of old age but I'll say one day I might become a immortal tentacle raping mutant who will sexually molest the females of each passing generation and so on.

Umm, I don't think the 1st one could be called fate, it seems more of a cause-and-effect sort of thing. I'm leaning towards the 1st one as I don't believe in fate, well, your second option in this case.
1
I don't believe in fate because it's pointless. If it exists I'm predetermined to not believe it exists and be typing this. If it doesn't then it's very foolish to consider that it does. Either way, no good reason for believing in it.

Fate is but a simple name for many many causes and effects in which you bump during life.Karma on the other hand is a very thought-out and clear eyed concept of the same thing, based on a simple fact that "to every action there's a reluctance" which works for all things (be it physics, chemistry, mental, social and other kind of interaction). Ofcourse it can't save ya from a drunk driver for sure but it greatly improves your chances to survive.

I agree with your first statement Harcle70, i like to believe that's how it works =). I also like to use your second one as an excuse to try and get out of trouble, which could go back to your first one by affecting what the person you said to it, will say next.

Is it just me or does that not make any sense whatsoever?
If we see fate as a fixed point, there's no way you could ever change it. What you describe would be simply fulfilling one's fate despite having thought it was a different kind of fate before.
Which is total BS in my opinion. You could basically excuse any type of thing with the whole fate deal, by making up stuff and saying it was fate.

I think fate is a combination of a persons overall background/personality combined with logical responses, (yes it sounds like im trying to be smarter than i actually am) for example if a girl is doing drugs and having sex at 12 years old, and she grows up to be a crack head one could say she was fated to head down that path, and if we go back further and the girls came from a broken home where she was surrounded by drugs/violence and when she grew older she turned to drugs and voilence some would see that as fate, but fate can also be altered like if the girl comes from a broken family yet excels at school and has a wonderful fufilling adult life.

What he's saying is Nash, is that the fact that when you are TRYING to change your Fate, it is merely planned to occur in Fate itself. Just clearing it up for you.

Fate is fucking stupid.
It's just an after the fact superstitious rationalization. Before anything happens, no one knows what your fate is, so the best thing these jack-offs can say is, "fate has a plan for you", but when something happens, oh boy, they can't wait to attribute it to fate.
