Help me with medical (costly) decision.

Hey fakku members, i would appreciate your inputs/advice regarding my health.
On 6/19/11, I sustained a serious injury (tore muscles that are used for breathing - diaphragm, abdominal, intercostal). Due to the pain, I couldn't move around at all for first two months. I'm barely getting by day to day trying not to move as much.
The problem is that I'm an university student, and I decided to take fall quarter off. This means that I'm off my student insurance until 1/6/12 (which is another 3 month long wait of agony and pain). The testing my doc wanted me to take will cost in thousands of dollars. For example, endoscopy will cost $2,000 without insurance! 0_o'''
what do you think will be better option
1. pay the tuition ($5,000), get student insurance. BUT, wait about 1.5 month to get testings from a specialist doctor. i'm not sure I'll be well enough to commute to the doctors
2. wait 3 months and hope that i'll be healthy enough to be able to commute to doctors. same tuition; I'll have the appoinments made early so that i get testing done right away the day i get my health insurance.
I had doubts about waiting another 3 months, because i've been feeling sick for past couple of days. The injury really took a toll on me; physically, mentally and socially. But I don't want to waste money since it is not mine; I'm just stressed out because both of my parents are in Korea, and my aunt who visits once in a month think that I'm attending school right now. When I told her that I don't think I would be able to commute to school due to pain, she f-ing flipped out, cursing and yelling and all that shit, so I lied to her about going to school.
so fakku-ers, what do you think?

Depends on where you live.
Often times, depending on income level, you can qualify for a reduced medical charge or even a payment schedule so its not one large upfront cost through the hospital itself.
And even if not through the hospital, there are programs and institutions that run credit programs for that to help people with medical expenses that many medical places take.
But again, it really depends on where you live.

OP get yourself patched up - have your health now, you can always remake the money rather than face an uncertain future or the condition worsening.
Think of it this way the earlier you are up and functioning the quicker you'll be able to get back to study and paying off debt.

get your treatment now!
if you are feeling sick, pain, and anything that actually hinder your activity, then you should get treatment for it quickly. one of my colleague actually dead last year because heart attack, for sometime he actually feeling pain in his chest but never go to doctor to check it because he doesnt have the money to do it, and he doesnt have any insurance for it.
if the reason of your reluctant are the money that your parents invested and your family opinion then you should talk to them directly, not some advice from your aunt. I believe that if you explain your condition very carefully, they should be understood and let you use your money for your health. in the end, your health are more important than money anyway. I think the reason your aunt give some cold shoulder about your condition are because she doesnt know your exact condition and given great responsibility of making sure you finish your study.
get well soon.

hey guys, i'm feeling much worse than before. i'm having trouble breathing, and it is scaring the sh!t out of me. Turns out that I was an idiot for withdreawing for fall qarter, thinking that i will get better.
i'm trying to re-enroll for fall quarter as a part time student. the tuition will be $2,800. so about 2 grand cheaper than full time tuition. A high price for health insurance, but should be worth it. I'm just hoping that the college will let me re-enroll, otherwise, I'm royally screwed. I'm just full of regret, why i was being such an idiot for just dropping out like that...
then again, chronic sickness drains a persons's energy and psyche. Because I had to talk on the phone with the insurance, my college advisor, and leaving a message for my doctor, my breathing is even worse... i'm feeling really down. :'(

Don't dwell on it, act on it. Seek medical attention asap! The classes and school will be there after you've healed.

Get to the hospital ASAP, the money will appear somehow. If you keep doing these things, something really serious is going to happen to you. Now, get out of here and go to the nearest hospital before its too late. Believe it or not, money is not your biggest issue right now, its health. Without health, you can't even do anything. Also, talk to your parents. I don't really know your situation but your parents should understand if what's happening to you is life threatening, which it will possibly be if you don't get attention soon.
Besides, I don't know if it can be done, but can't you pay your treatment later. I believe hospitals tend to do that for some things, you should check it out. That way, you can pay it in the next semester, like you were trying to do.
