Is it just me or...

The generation gap between people is getting bigger and bigger every year ? 10 or so years ago there wasn't much difference between a ~15 yrs old and a ~20 yrs old dude/dudette. Now here I am 22 years old and sometimes I can't seem to understand (or don't want to) only ~5 yrs younger people. They do so much differently it's mindblowing. Maybe it's just me who's a bit more mature than the usual people arround my age, but I'm not sure. When I was that old my family didn't even own a good computer with internet connection, we had some "millenia" old shitty television and I didn't have a mobile phone. They have those now and even more. Jealousy you ask ? Maybe, but I'd rather say it's just a mild envy. Anyways, that's all I wanted to ask. Please discuss if you're interested or just want to talk about it. Thx bie.

I feel ya.
I've been thinking the same... not exactly that the age gaps get bigger but that people younger than me are drawn more and more into this virtual, parallel universe.
It's as if computers and cellphones turned into a life-sustaining machine without which we cannot live any longer.
This kinda started back when social networks first came up, and most people I know that used it were younger as they grew up around computers... I'm sick of seeing people around me talk about what this or that person posted on facebook last night.
It's like people don't know what "getting a life" is.

The big question is, are we any better?
I think most of the visitors of this site live up to the stereotype.
What do we know of "enjoying life"?

We don't do any better, but we did have a childhood full of running arround, playing outside with friends and all that stuff. They are just jumped that part which is wrong I think. Everyone of them just want to grow up so fast they don't have the time to enjoy their "snotnosed" period. Where are all the kids on bicicles ? Where are the kids playing soccer or any other phisical activity ? It's bad for their bodies, they will waer out faster, they don't have the neccesary muscle mass ? Not like a bodybuilder jeez, but look at the kids a decade ago and look at them now. They look so damn skinny and pale sometimes I think a bigger gust of wind could push them over. Everything needs a balance.

Well, the thing is I spend a good time in my room, but I do go out and have fun whenever I can. Hell, I just got back from a 2 day concert that was a 6 hour drive from where I live, and we had to camp out for that thing. Before that, I went swimming in a river, got a few cuts, but had a great time. How many kids say that they went and did anything outside their neighborhood.
I just feel that it's wrong that kids don't try to get out too often, if at all.

Your looking at the wrong group of kids.I visited my old high school recently to pick up my nephew and to say hi to an old priest/teacher of mine and was totally surprised that there were completely no kids with phones out or even texting.Anyways stop stereotyping today's generation of "children" no matter how idiotic they may be, for one point, innovation is the future and as such we and now most likely they are the future,a future that by making such comments you refuse to adapt to, no matter how atrocious or dark it maybe with the mindless hordes that now plague our great country.Second, as we have pointed out before, to look at us at the normal savage's point of view we are the byproduct, the scum, of the Internet, you are no better in any shape or form than them in their view and must likely as you do criticize them are even lesser. Third, when has doing anything physical ever lead to your success in life? Other than the declining level of health because of lack of physical activity, physicality has only lead to living a normal uneventful blue collar life or lead to you grind every day in an office space cherishing what little time you had out and judging those who actually may make something of their lives by staying inside and learning of what's to come. Besides even on the issue of health, when it comes down to it, with the right money I can repair or replace any damage, either my eyes at a fragment of their old selves or your liver and lungs after succumbing to your fall to alcoholism and smoking, obesity and the such while not being an issue for me personally is easily repairable it's byproducts the same.
Anyways to shorten up this wall of text :QQ more you weeb wfc.

I know what ya mean, I'm also 22 and i've got a 10 yr old sibling and all they do is play video games and watch tv. I suppose things will get worse before they get better, childhood obesity is on the rise and kids aren't learning anything in our crappy school system. The truth is that most of us (on Fakku) are, or can be the next generation of parents so we need to teach our future kids how to be kids and be heathly. Oh and like i said this is a job for the PARENTS, not the government telling us how to raise our kids and what they should eat,

We're not saying that kids have to be physically fit to be sucessful. We're saying that kids need to get out more and enjoy life. I mean, their kids. They only got so much time left till they get to our age, and then what?
And for the whole kids in the school, I say this may be a bloody miracle if you saw none with phones, but depends on both where you live and how long you may have been in the school. And it's not a stereotype when you see it all the time.
Also, dude, please don't be a dick about this stuff. We're all good people, we don't need hate flying around everywhere.

Technology always becomes more accessible as time goes on. Kids today have cell phones, but when I was a kid, nobody had a cell phone. Well, guess what? When I was a kid, I had a TV in my room and cable that gave us dozens of channels. When my mom was a kid, they had one TV in the house and a handful of channels. As an adult, I can complain about kids nowadays never going outside, spending all their time playing vidya games and texting, but when I was a kid, adults back then complained about kids wasting all their time by watching TV and reading comic books.
Honestly, things don't change that much over time. Details change, but the grand things don't.

I still can't help but feel sorry for them. When I have kids they are playing a sport they enjoy so they can enjoy the sun like I once did. :)

I've jumped out of a plane, skied down mountains, Fallen in love (3 times), got a tattoo (bottom of left foot) and been to the opposite side of the world (Australia). And I'm only 21. I grew up playing video games and staying in the shade for the most part but I have enjoyed life. Kids today DEMAND technology that they have no real or true use for other than Facebook, Twitter, and Tumbler.

And just because this is SD:
I live just next to a small playground (swings, slides and stuff) and that place is always full of children. But the funny thing is that most of those children are not finnish (there's alot of immigrants in the area I live in). And on top of that the chirdrens' parents and teen aged siblings are there playing with them too!
So most of the finnish children are inside playing or either outside with just their friends (while mom and dad sit home watching TV) and the children from other countries are playing outside with their families and friends (I'm kinda jealous tbh).
This is just my point of view, but I think that people who appreciate family values nowdays most likely has that kind of "good childhood" OP is talking about. There are some exeptions too, ofcourse.
I dont know if my post makes any sense, I just woke up not too long ago :/

Isn't there a childhood obesity epidemic going around?

Isn't there a childhood obesity epidemic going around?I have an explanation. You only see the skinny kids outside, the obese kids you can only see outside when they are on their way to the store to buy more candy. Seriously. At least here its the thin kids who are playing at the playground next to my apartment, and I only see the bigger kids in the local grocery store. And thats why the skinny kids are so skinny, they move alot, consume energy. And thats why the bigger kids are big, they sit home playing video games/watching tv and eating.

I think kids have always entertained themselves with technology (while it existed at least). The major difference between now and 5 years ago is that the technology is portable. when kids watch tv in their house or a friends house, you don't see that, but if their texting anywhere public, you can see them. I myself don't text, and I frown upon people who have no life apart from their phone. it's the parents responsibility to help these obese kids, but some parents just don't care.
