Is the world a better place after the Cold War?

It seemed that way back when the Cold War ended(not that I was around) was thought of as a better place. No more fascism, communism was pretty much gone, and China was changing. However the End of the Cold War seems to have created a much worse environment.
No longer can countries be stopped from going to war by the superpowers refusing to sell them weapons and saying "No, do not start a war because we can't beat them right now." Many countries that shouldn't have nukes or strong armies do.
Pakistan and India have nukes and both would be more than happy to wipe the other of the face of the Earth. Isreal has nukes and the surrounding muslim states have openly said they support the idea of destroying Isreal and that they do not recognize it as a state or country, and Isreal would nuke them if they acted on those opinions. Iran is starting a nuclear program and if they get working nukes would most likely use them(or at least the current government and religious leaders would). North Korea would use the nukes they are close to getting on Japan, South Korea, and the US if the missles could reach that far.
After the fall of communism poverty and famine were rampant across Russia and still are today. There is famine and poverty around the whole world. Many countries want to go to war with each other and despite the UN trying to delegate eventually there will be war.
I'm not saying things should be like they were during and before the Cold War. What I'm saying or rather asking is this. Is the world better off, worse off, or the same?

From what your saying I'd say its the same. The Cold War was simply a war like any other, whether their was fighting or not. What im saying is that before the cold war countries wanted to go to war with each other and countries had nukes. The only thing that has changed now is the countries that advocate the same things.

In everywhere, everything that gets fucked up builds itself again, then breaks down again....
Like any other war, they quarrel, then they patch up after lots of people died, then after long, they quarrel again.
Its the same old shit. Not better, not worse. they got problems then, we have ours now.

Yes, because now I don't have to spend every minute of my life worrying about nukes falling down from the sky.
No, because the world is just as fucked now as it was 30-40 years in the past(possibly more).
North Korea is a powder keg waiting to be blown up if you ask me.
I think I just contradicted myself.

The world is probably better in many ways, but not because of the so-called end of the Cold War, but because of technological and scientific advances.
However, while the world has changed in many ways it is probably more unstable as the defenders of the status quo seek other schizophrenic "them" to posture themselves against, be it the perceived threats of Islamic extremism, regional powers that don't want to play the US game (N.Korea, Iran, Venezuela), or crusades in the name of the environment.
The largest difference on the geopolitical front is that the aptly named MAD kept nuclear devastation a highly unlikely event. When the same military power fell into the hands of groups whose goal was not the defence of their nation-state, the balance was upset.

There was never a better time.
It's just people who have this nostalgic feeling of the past. I loved the 1980s and early 1990s becuase I was a kid and had very little responsiblity. Does that mean it was better than now?
No, it is just how I viewed it as a kid.

Well, we all live, we all die, and almost all anime was made AFTER the cold war, so, in my opinion, while i may not care in the future, now is definitely better than the cold war (although I like communists.)

Exactly, western governments claimed legitimacy by their struggle against the Soviet Union, and that was such a powerful tool that it's just being applied in a different context against other enemies. Once you have a never-ending enemy to fight, it's a good time to be in a position of government or military authority. You can just ignore what laws and restrictions you don't like because the country is always at war.

This has been done by countries/states since politics began, but now it is easier for governments to control media outlets and monitor where we are and what we're fapping to. The internet should offer greater opportunities to learn and take in other perspectives but instead most people look to the established news sites owned by the media conglomerates, sites with good intention but little journalistic integrity or just out-and-out cranks (eg. Alex Jones - maybe he's telling the truth but he comes across as such an arrogrant, self-serving arse I don't trust him).
