3. I've been an Otaku since I was about 14.
4. Dragon Ball Z and Tenchi Muyo really got me into anime and I became an Otaku because of that.
5. Nope, never stopped.
6. ...
7. There's no age limitation to being an Otaku. Whether you're young or old if you become an Otaku then it's cool. I'll probably always be an Otaku too (I'll be 80 years old and watching new anime XD).

1. Let's skip that.
2. No. Also, don't let other people fool you into thinking that they are otaku. Unless they have at least one bookshelf full of anime/manga/figures/etc. (I'm talking VERY minimum) then they aren't otaku, they are just fans at best
7. No limitation though it would be weird to see a 6 year old or 100 year old otaku.

Damn, I wanted the first to emphasize the level of fanaticism needed.
Your baseline is too low, true otaku are addiction level. They get so obsessed, when given choices like supporting their hobby, and sustenance, they choose the former.
These are the kinds of people who immerse themselves to the point of exhaustion. Every penny they come across goes towards their chosen field.
Also, there are other types of otaku. Anime/manga is the best translated type, but a wide variety of subjects cause people to reach this state: Gossip, auto-car(?), western comic books, science fiction, movies, art, etc.

2. No. I'm a bit too varied to get that entrenched in one thing.

1. What's your age and gender ? 18. Male.
2. Do you consider yourself an otaku / Have you ever become an otaku ? Not really, considering that anime and the related stuff and etc are all only something I like.
7. In your opinion , what's the limitation age for being an otaku ? No limit? As far as I am concerned everybody can be obsessed by something at whatever age.

Well, first of all, since the thread used the word "otaku" in a positive way, I believed it used the non-Japanese definition. The non-Japanese definition is a lot more lenient in terms of "obsession" and since most people using this positive term don't actually live in Japan, their ability to feed their "obsession" is a lot more limited. Additionally, the non-Japanese definition of "otaku" almost exclusively pertains to anime, manga, and figures.

2. I'm a goddamn otaku and will always be.
3. Since I was 10. Started loving Ranma, then learned to draw a deformed Kensin.
4. Tora Dora
5. I stopped being an otaku when I was 14 when my dad found out I was failing high school and I bring 2 rims of bond paper to school just to draw anime. He beat the crap out of me and I stopped right until I started watching Tora Dora.

7. An otaku is not a stage in life. Its a lifestyle, thus no age limit.

Spoiler:
1. age: secret, gender: female
2. manga otaku. dun watch much anime or play much v/n but read manga like crazy. xDD
just ranting:
i have 3+ bookshelves of manga, read all manga in a rental manga store (seriously, the employees know me) and sadly manga price went up and i am banned from buying (coz i have 3 bookshelves already) but fortunately i found mangafox and onemanga~ \o/
i also know basic japanese; hiragana & katakana though i dont know kanji :p
i dun watch much anime coz the DVDs are expensive, pirated ones suck, and internet connection is slow. not to mention i can finish 1 chapter of manga in less than 5 mins (plus loading time) and i have to spend more than 30 mins (plus loading time) for 1 episode of anime.
though i love things like candy boy (10 mins per episode, yaay and not to mention very cute yuri couple ^^) and lucky star.
as for V/N, same thing, download time is too long. and if i hav to buy, its expensive. so myb in the future. xDD not to mention i havnt found a cheap external HD to store V/Ns in, so myb after i bought one....
tried Ever17 though, amazing. gonna try something else next soon coz exam's over & holiday's coming! xDD
i only watch anime & play V/N when i hav plenty of time, e.g. holiday
but, manga's the best.
thus, i am manga otaku. but as for anime & V/N, not yet.
3. read manga ever since i'm in kindergarten 2, that'd be... about 4 or 5 y.o.
4. coz of manga. plain and simple.
5. no, cant stop. obsessed with manga. got addicted with anime for a while, but that i managed to stop (i'm impatient, i cant take the waiting time for download/buffering) and same thing with V/N, unless i can solve this time problem.
but i guess i'll be reading manga my whole life.
6. n/a; life's boring and u still want to take manga away from me??? no thx.
however, i do limit myself from going too far.
7. no age limit. but there is an obsession limit. (ouch reality) as long as the person doesn't become NEET/hikikomori, doesn't think he/she lives in Lalaland, acts like his/her own age, is OK. if u do, u ought to stop, e.g. NHK ni Youkouso!
P.S. Fujoshis are usually yaoi fans and yes, i do read yaoi but i read all kinds of mangas too; i read yuri too, i read hentai too - well, practically, i read everything so it'd be more convenient to call me otaku, i guess.

1. Otaku (ãŠãŸã/オタク) is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga, and video games.
2. In modern Japanese slang, the term otaku refers to a fan of any particular theme, topic, or hobby. Common uses are anime otaku (a fan of anime), cosplay otaku and manga otaku (a fan of Japanese comic books), pasokon otaku (personal computer geeks), gēmu otaku (playing video games), and wota (pronounced 'ota', previously referred to as "idol otaku") that are extreme fans of idols, heavily promoted singing girls. There are also tetsudŠotaku or denshamania (railfans) or gunji otaku (military geeks). While these are the most common uses, the word can be applied to anything (music otaku, martial arts otaku, cooking otaku, etc).
3. In English, it is usually used to refer to an obsessive fan of anime/manga and/or Japanese culture generally, and to a lesser extent Japanese video games.

2. I dunno, I do read a lot of manga and watch a lot of anime, but I spend more of my time reading books and going out with my friends.
7. I don't think there is, like for example, I know someone from the grade school division of my school who is an otaku.

2. I would consider myself a modern day otaku.
3. Since 2003
4. I watched dragonball Z when I was a kid, few years later got into a anime (can't rememer the name), then I started watching it like crazy. I'm currently on “My bride is a mermaid.”
5. Not even close
6. Hell no
7. When I was watching dbz, I couldn't really comprehend it because I was a kid, when I matured more, I started watching like crazy, so I would have to say the very least is 13 years.

2. Hmmm... I'd say mostly the answer is yes.
3. Probably when I was 17 or 18...
4. Started buying figures. Lots and lots of them. :P
5. Not really. It's not as if I'm constantly buying, but every couple months I do, so it's a pretty consistent thing.
6. n/a
7. No limit. As long as it's a hobby, there shouldn't be any limitation.

3. I took a liking to anime and manga when I was 16, I became an otaku somewhere 2 years ago
4. cowboy bebop and trigun
5. nope, why would I do that?

7. I don't consider age a limitant, as fact I thinks there's no limitant to it, I have at least 3 friends who own shelves of anime figures and mechas and their wives wont nag about it at all, even after having children, I think it's a matter of balancing whats more important to you in life.
EDIT: some rants:
I think the major issue in here is about when being an otaku becomes unhealthy, this sunday I got my first figure ever, it was a gift from a store that participated in a convention I worked at this weekend (I don't even know what series it is from) and got my second plush (also gifted by Avalon Store) I like anime and manga, and even to watch well-made cosplays but thats it to me, I have friends who have covered their rooms with figures, posters, H-games and other otaku crap, I believe in excess and also that any kind of excess is bad, when you become like Madarame from Genshiken who would starve for the sake of buying a game or a figure, you have some serious issues to solve.
