Japanese elections; the DPJ wins by a landslide

The conservative Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, which has ruled the country since the end of World War II (except for a small 11-month period in 1993), has been displaced from the Lower House. The center-left Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) has wiped the floor with them by winning more than 300 of the 480 House of Representatives seats.
Do you think this will influence in any way the Japanese's way of thinking? Sixty years of conservative ruling is bound to condition a people. This should be a breath of fresh air for them. As they are quite the stuck-up people; I'll be very happy for them if they loosen up a little.

It doesn't really matter, it isn't like liberals and conservatives in america. It isn't about social issues, it is about policy with them. Besides that, the LPJ was founded by the top brass of the DPJ so it isn't like they are very different.
The news said most japanese didn't vote for the LPJ because they liked them more, they just wanted to vote against the DPJ.

Only way I'd care is if this was a party who would tell the feminists to shove a sock in their mouths.
I have to admit I almost never follow government outside of the United States, with the exception of the United Kingdom, and that is only because it is so easily obtained because they are on C-SPAN2 as often as U.S. government legislation. Heh.

Quite honestly, I think we'll have to wait and see how it turns out. As most of the time in politics, the actions are a better indicator for what they intend to do than what is written on their advertisements and agendas.
The real question is: Will I find the pirate party on my voting sheet for the next Bundestagswahl in Germany :P
