Life in prison/Hell
0
I don't want to argue whether hell exists, or the morality of life in prison over a death sentence, I just want to know others thoughts on eternal punishment.
I was always taught that when you do something wrong, you get punished so that you won't make the same mistakes, whether it be bad marks on a test, or a fine for speeding. So why punish someone forever? To me it seems like that would be just to satisfy people who did nothing wrong and want to see the person punished. That doesn't seem right to me.
No one stands to gain anything from eternal punishment. If the criminal changes his way and vows never to commit the same crime again, it doesn't matter. It may ease the feelings of the victims, but they'll move on, the same way everyone else does.
My opinions apply doubly for hell. Why would someone's soul need to be punished forever? For their sake, if they learn their lesson, it won't matter, and I doubt an all knowing God would be so petty as to need to see every wrong doer to burn forever, that just seems cruel and disturbing to me.
Sorry if there are any errors, this was typed on a handheld.
And again, I don't mean to start an arguement, I just want thoughts on an idea that I do not understand. Thanks.

I recall a religion that believes hell is only a temporary place, that you spend time there equal to the severity of your sins. And I agree for the most part, the majority of people don't deserve a never ending punishment like that...but there are a few who might.

I'm sorry but for as long as the Judicial system exists, if people are around to kill children, adults, whomever, they need to spend life in jail to isolate their actions. Or even better, a death sentence needs to be issued for extreme crimes.
To make a topic about this is kind of a waste of time.

Well I'm not calling for life in prison to be abolished, its just the idea of it. Why trap someone forever? If they can never learn from it, its more like retribution or revenge imo.

revengeCongratulations, you just found the answer to your mystery. Some people cannot live without the idea of revenge, no matter how much that holds us back as a race. Solved.

you didn't read my post.
It's to ISOLATE THEIR ACTIONS. To keep someone in a cell is a type of isolation. Y'know..to keep them from killing, raping, stealing etc. from people?

All of these things happen in prison too.

I solely meant for the victims.

It does happen in prison, but at least it will happen less often than out in public as guards are able to intervene and are watching their actions carefully so as to stop these incidents.
From the posts so far, it seems Coco is the only one that understands the reason for a life-time sentence seeing as how a lot of people with long sentences are repeat offenders (meaning they didn't learn their lesson the first time, so what else to do but quarantine them?).

Must we go with the Naruto Shippudan referrence "Circle of Hatred" (When him and Nagato[Pain] are talking to eachother); We are people afterall, we love, we hate, we hurt, we sympathize and all sorts of other stuff.

You can get to hell for buncha petty stuff, such as practicing magic. Yeah it's too much, but that's God's charisma, if he don't do that, hell wasn't going to be scary.

I can somewhat agree, but no.
If someone in your family dies a horrible death, say, knife to the gut and 11 gunshots to the head, wouldn't you want them to suffer as much as you THOUGHT they did? Now I'm not saying do away with the death penalty, but i don't see why we can't just hand them over the victim's family for a week to torture them in any way possible. But of course that's morally wrong. But sentencing them to a living hell isn't. And plus, the American public believes that if you'll kill once, you'll do it again.

I've got enough contacts in hell at the moment that I couldn't give any less of a shit about what god thinks about it all.
On the other hand, A lot of "High" magick involves contracts and contacts with Angels and Arch-Angels. If god is so down on it, what the hell are his minions doing?

Bah revenge is for emo, it doesn't solve anything. The cage is a easier way to do cause rehabilitating people cost a bunch and the success is not guaranted. Killing criminals is obviously the easiest way of all but it's also lead to tons of morally / judiciary dilemmas so it's plainly a waste of time, serenity and money. Not that all countries bother with these dilemmas, some take shortcuts...

Some people gain that kind of mindset of killing through traumatic actions in their earlier life about 4-8 thats the most important part since that makes what kind of understanding of mindset you will have, and please stop be retarted and look on this topic more then just one view. I have this one probably set in three.
It gains profit from being autistic and ADD. You think diffrently from what others do. Right call me a freak if now desired but seriously learn to see things more then one way.

In my opinion some people, such as serial killers, rapist etc who do horrible things should get a lifetime of punishment since they've done a terrible thing.
somethings on the line of stealing shouldn't deserve a lifetime of punishment though

...but there are a few who might.Well, like the religion states, the severity of the sins equals to the amount of time you spend in hell. So, if you commit horrible acts like Hitler, or Stalin for example, it might as well be eternity for as long as they stay there. Good riddance.

[size=12]As harsh as it is, and I'm sure you know, there are people out there that just don't care at all about others. They won't change their ways and they only wish to satisfy themselves by constantly killing, raping, or whatever else that may be demonic to others. That is what hell is for, and I believe it should only be for those kind of people.[/h]

true stealing isn't someting that does'nt desurve life. but killers and especily rapist need life or death, hell who can say whats the punishment for a crime. hell what would be the best punishment, it would be hell for that crimanl. if a person fears death and does'nt feel remorse, kill him. if a person feels to lose his socaiol life the lock that person up. but who knows.
