As long as they're not hurting any one else the state and the people have no whatsoever right to interfere with their life. This goes for everyone, from political radicals, through environmental/anti-globalisation activist to ...even pedophiles.

The moment someone is hurt by somebody else is when the state should intervene to protect the victim's right and dispense justice. When it does only the *transgression* should be judged, the character and flaws of the perpetrator should have nothing to do with the sentence.

Unfortunately western civilization has gone off the tracks. It is felt that we should enforce "morals" on people without realizing that the moment morals cease to be internal, they cease to be morals at all and become dogma.

...there are questionable cases like the rights of the children, but even in that case one could argue for prosecution merely on the grounds of children not receiving their due rights: the right to an education, the right to be healthy and fed etc.

I have to say that I think it's wrong to associate this crime with being a 'lolicon'. Since first of all lolicon means actually 'loving' lolis and 'taking care of them' in which 'killing them' isn't a part of it. This is just a case of another failure of a human being who probably got hit in the head by something blunt that probably caused him to be this deranged. I see nothing wrong about calling this guy a 'lolicon' but his act of crime is a totally different matter he's just evily retarded. He called his friend to the crime scene, a good evidence that this person trully has suffered mental problems as most criminals would never give sign of his crimes much less to talk to anyone about it.

I think you fail to take into consideration the fact that the world's population is growing. It makes sense to me that as the world's population increases, so will the number of crimes, because the number of messed up people will grow.

The whole lolicon genre is being targeted. websites ban content because it has been deemed "Loli" but in reality, the age that someone can be considered a lolita is increasing. What is lolicon should be deemed by the viewer. When something like this happens, the press usually blames porn of under-aged girls, but in fact, they leave out all of the countless other people who look at Lolicon who dont commit crimes against children violent or not. I myself am a lolicon fan, but that doesnt mean im going to go out and rape and kill a 13 year old. What this guy did was inhuman and disgusting, but its wrong to blame other reasons than his own fucked up mind.

It could be that it's because it's easyer to get a younger person since there more niave.

There's probally more than 2 in Australia they probally go unreported & I remember their was these 2 sick guy that raped and tortured this poor boy, but because they where underage them selfs they gave them new idenities & sent them to Australia.
