losing their humanity

well we know we are human... and we should think that way... we should respect our fellow brethren as we respect ourselves... else there will be several vendettas on yer back...
but one thing puzzles me...
why do some people wont treat others like themselves?
Here in teh phils. the recent Maguindanao massacre has impacted the nation and the world... elsewhere in firefights some prisoners get the torture treatment.... to the extreme levels such as eye gouging, dismembering the limbs, etc.
should people like them deserve death or shit like that or they should be detained and whatnot?

People thinking in the same shoe of others isnt very easy since you dont live their lives, thus do not understand them...
^what I believe as the real humanity.
Most of the humans are selfish, think of only themselves, when someone do good things to others, they expect something good out of it, or to be treated good too. If the people they helped tend to be selfish and took their help for granted, they would think "why did I even help him?" "Ungrateful bas-" "what did I do to deserve this??" etc, evidence that these people also want something in return, a 'thank', a better impression of themselvesm, and to be accepted in the society or group.
People do good, and expect to be treated good.

What's considered human-ish in the first place?
China eat dog meat, We find it revolting. But yet in their eyes, it's meat, and meat is to be eaten. Do they lose their humanity from it? In others' eyes, yes but to them ( and me.) They perhapes just increased their chances of survival when there's a shortage of food.
Humanity is very much still base on majority opinion.

i like to think we are all monsters underneath.Just time or circumstances will reveal them.
I don't know what people get out of torture treatment but i reckon its either due to extreme hate or no longer seeing a human human.
China eat dog meat, well not that surprising since they eat all sorts of things either for nourishment or medicinal.

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
Well you gotta understand, violence is part of being human. Just cause someone is downright brutal, and has no qualms of killing others does not make him less human. We are a very violent species, some more than others. While humans are capable of incredibly nice and amazing things, on the flip side, rage, anger, and resentment are under the surface somewhere. Only difference between us and animals is the ability to invent better ways to kill each other.

Its the circle of life. They were meant to die. Someway it may seem inhumane but maybe its punishment for what the've done in life, thus making them free of judgement in the after life. Who knows.

@theOP: The reason most people don't treat others like they would like to be treated is because of human nature.
In Philosophy I was introduced into 3 incentives (or "Driving Forces to do things"): Economical, Moral, and Social incentives. Unfortunately, the Economical (Having money and wanting more money) and Social (Being viewed as a power figure) incentive is favored over the moral incentive, which is basically someone's view of right.

No matter how advanced we become we are still animals and as such we have instincts. In certain parts of the world where it is essentially the strong kill the weak. In many cases the weak being the poor the sick and the hungry. It's horrible there is no questioning that but these things will be common in underdeveloped countries or countries with high levels of poverty. There is also greed people will go to incredible lengths for wealth. Of course throughout history racism, oppression, revolution, and vengeance and glory have all been behind many deaths.

All humans will do what is best for themselves or serves their purpose, consciously or not. A human thinking about the welfare of others and putting theirs aside is non-existent, it just appears like it most of the time. People will be nice if it benefits them, they will be brutal if it does the same - if its what their brains can logical come up with.

I'm a strong supporter of rehabilitation. However, I have my struggles like everyone else.
I find myself intrigued by Confucian theory that it is never too late to change oneself, but there are those individuals that even I can deem "unfixable." I still need a few more years of pondering to come to anything close to a definite answer.

Humans are pretty weak. And because they are so weak, they like to trample on things or people that are weaker than them.
Eg. If you get bullied, you'd find a way to vent the anger on someone else.
I am not against this idea actually. I am more for "Survival of the fittest" rather than "Humanity" and "Fairness".

For as long as I can remember, I've viewed the term 'humanity' with disgust. The term claims that there is some inherent goodness within all that is considered human. To begin with, this forces us into the belief that there is a defined right way to do things. I reject this belief. However, I believe in personal morality. Thus, if we were to assume the majority of the world's morality, then it would follow the behavior reinforced by many modern religions. However, I believe that all humans are unerringly selfish. Thus, I would be led to the belief that humanity, as a concept, is severely flawed. I'm not really sure what I set out to say, but, hopefully, I have expressed it.

The True Buff Bizzle
A question like this can have many answers, and as stated above, humans are just animals with well developed brains. Our views on the world around us are largely built upon the culture, religion, and state of economy that we were raised in. Many of us see the world in black and white, Good and Bad, but there are countless shades of gray that brings much controversy. I couldn't even imagine some of the horrid things that go on in third world countries where intolerance and cruelty run rampant.
Monsters are not born, they are made, shaped by the sorroundings offered to them since birth. What some believe cruel, others deem necessary, human beings are far darker than most of want to believe, but, the most prominent law of nature is that of natural selection, the strong survive, adapting to the changing world. Some see cruel punishments and diabolical tortures as a necessary punishment.
Not to sound like some pessimistic jerk, but sadly, We do good things because deep down, we expect some reward in one form or another, that is how it's been throughout history, religion is a testament to that, a good example is Christianity, it wouldn't work very well if their was just a heaven, there's no driving force or motivation to keep us from doing terrible things, but throw the idea of burning in a lake of fire for all eternity if your bad, then there's a bit of motivation.
All in all, The world is complicated, and so are people, there are kind and generous people out there, who have made this world a better place, but there are those who have done the polar opposite as well, and perhaps someday, we'll all become intelligent to the point where we can coincide with one another for a better tomorrow, but that day is a distant dream at the moment.

The way i see it is that yes we are all human. However there are other races and religions in the world. So the answer is pretty simple especially in the religious aspect. Since there are those differences we are divided in an unfair way. If we don't understand why others believe in a certain religion then its simple we as humans fear what we can not understand(the unknown). Which is why unfortunately a lot of different people can not get along.

Doesnt losing your so called "Humanity" really mean not acting in the way of "accpetable" behavior? Humanity is just a word, what is real is humean emotion and what your "feel" as right and wrong, just and unjust.
A friend of mine said "people expect others to be just like them"
(which makes sense to a degree) since I im able to do a lot of things others cant yet cant seem to do simple tasks sometimes, IU have bad memory and would forget what im saying while im saying it, forget words and such... just today i forgot the word "short"..... wait what was i saying? . . . . oh ya *ahem* since certain things comes easy to me i expect the same of others... and i keep forgeting this....
all humans have desire... whcih i think can be basicly the 7 sins... or very close to that.
going mad just means losing your sanity, its only a state of mind, which of course itself a controversial thing. What you see is what you make of it i think...
ok what was i talking about again?
