Manga Crisis in Thailand: The irrational censorship ever....
0
In Thailand, where the insane Censorship Committee (part of Ministry of Culture) is living, has BANNED 'Doraemon Anime' because the (so-called) 'dangerous scene for children' (Shizuka takes a bath).
And also banned about 20 more mangas (and many anime, eg. Shin-Chan) because of the same kind of reason.
I really do not understand what they think and how their brain functioned.
Can anyone be aroused by watching or reading 'Shuzuka takes a bath Scene'???
.......................
Just bring up news about manga in my country to the World.
Actually, it really makes me sick.

1. Sucks for Thailand.
2. I doubt it's about arousal. I bet it's because they're those conservative types who think that seeing people naked is a sin.
3. They're just fucking haters.

Pretty Agree for that...
Well, for me, those idiots are just a group of 'Double Standard Users'.
They banned manga because of 'AROUSAL' but never ban any of Thai Traditional Tales (or any kind of that) which has 'erotic part' at all.
Then, do they really have RIGHT to ban manga which much lesser arousal than those tales???

Do they have the right? Yes
The fact that they're using a double standard shows that they have an ulterior motive than just because it arouses people. The thing is that you don't know what that motive is and they know you can't do anything about the censorship.
Edit: Why do you write "With respect" in all your posts? Why not just add it to your sig?

Well...I think we have to begin with the words 'RIGHT' and 'Untouchable Power'.
Theoretically, Right always comes together with 'Responsibility and Accountability'. But what those guys have done is "Power without Accountability". As you says; "they know you can't do anything about the censorship.". It is the Power without Accountability...but not RIGHT.
We have to classify them clearly.
With Respect
ps. Actually, I use "With Respect" (by typing not my signature) is a kind of my stupid manner when discussing on webboard and also I already have my 'signature' which says; "The angel-like devil is far better than the devil-like angel." but I do not know why it is not shown here.

Kaimax
Best Master-San
I feel that they have indirectly insulted Japan. Shizuka is an Elementary student with small boobs. They can just cut the scene or over zoom the scene or use the time-lag method.

I believe some of your neighbouring countries have tough censorship laws as well. I heard that in Malaysia, figurines of female anime characters in skimpy outfits and sexy poses are banned, while DVDs going into Singapore have to pass through a certain board/
Not sure if the above are true or simply rumours.

Seconded. Lol, just kidding.
Random Opinion
Assuming that it's a show for children...
(I don't think I'd ever catch an adult watching that)
...I can see why they'd ban it. I really don't think a parent would want their child seeing a image like it. I mean, it's nothing horrible and it really doesn't look like something that someone with halfway-decent taste can fap to, but either way it's nudity and counted as child porn. I suppose it depends on how you look at it though. Maybe for some it's really not so bad.
I guess the ones behind the whole censorship thing, feel as if they have to do their job of making sure children don't see images like it and so that's why it was banned.
But yeah, sometimes censorship can be pretty ridiculous so I see what you mean.[/h]

People are just too uptight about these sort of things. If they are going to ban certain things because of "arousal" then ban Boku no pico or the lemon cream series. Those are by far more "offensive" than a bath scene in some random anime.
Since they aren't banning the hentai we can rule out the arousal reason. It is either an overzealous "moralite" or a misunderstanding of a subject by someone on the outside.

Did they do it legally?? If yes,

You know, I'm gonna go take a bath right now. Maybe someone will die for my sin.
Censorship insults me. That's the worst thing you can do to an author.

Banning it because of nipples?
Come now. Boys have nipples, and whatsherface hasn't even hit puberty yet, so she has no breasts to speak of. There is nothing offensive about showing the nude upper body of a child. It's like yelling "OMG! PUT A SHIRT ON! THERES KIDS HERE!" to a dude not wearing a shirt at the beach.
I really think people react too strongly with the whole "Pedophile" label to anything with a questionable portrayal of a kid.

[size=10]Yeah. I see what you mean. And I wasn't saying that nipples should result in it being banned. I just believe that there are some parents who don't mind and some who will. Take billy and mandy, for example. If the girl, mandy, had her breast showing it'd be on the news and everything, probably on the internet too. There's just certain things that people find acceptable and certain things they don't. As said before, "I suppose it depends on how you look at it..." Some people care about it while others don't and aren't offended. Honestly, I couldn't care less if they showed it or not. It doesn't effect me. It doesn't look so appealing to me. I just thought I'd post my opinion on it. I take no side on this whole idea. Just.. stating an opinion, that's all.[/h]

Ah, yeah I guess they do. Lol. Like oprah and the pedobear thing. Lol, now that was kinda amusing. But let's not get off topic. Um.. yeah, I guess people do react too strong. Again, I take no side.. just voicing my opinion.[/h]

You're entitled to your opinion, as I to mine, and that retarded censorship bureau to theirs.
The way you answer makes it sound like I was coming off as angry/inflammatory. Was I?
Well, if I was, I apologize.
Anyway, to take your "Billy and Mandy" example, for instance, I disagree. I do not think anyone would be retarded enough to cause a ruckus about an extra three pink pixels on that girl's 15 pixel body.

Lol at the pixel thing. And no, you didn't really come off as angry. I just thought that you didn't really like what I expressed in my post, so I tried to post something pretty neutral.
Ah, but yeah, I see what you mean by that. :) [/h]

The fappng comment was a joke, just to let everyone know.
Anyways, I can kind of understand Thailand doing this. Key words - "kind of."
Here in America, there's been a ton of censorship. The butts of the guys were edited out of an episode of Digimon, I remember, and always, Goku's bare ass and penis have been edited out of Dragonball. It's understandable. In our culture, nudity is frowned upon. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but it's the way things are. I'd be surprised as hell if I turned on Cartoon Network and saw some little girl getting out of the bath. It may be normal for Japan, but it certainly isn't for America. Ranma 1/2, for example, has a ton of nudity, and it wasn't edited on Japanese TV. Here, it'll never come on TV.
I'm rambling. What I mean is, it's understandable to keep the stuff off of TV. I don't know the extent of this banning, but if what I'm thinking is correct, then it's illegal to own any of the stuff banned. That is ludicrous. It's not nasty and doesn't hurt anyone, unlike child pornography, and there's no reason for it to be illegal. I don't think the country has the right to tell people that they can't own a good series just because it features a little girl stepping out of a bath. Then again, I believe that all countries should be free and shouldn't oppress its people, so in a way, I think all oppressive countries don't have a right to exist at all.

Well, such nudity is nothing in Japan. Japanese culture is quite different than many others. For example, a mother or father can take baths together is a small "tub" with their little sons and daugthers. But in America, Canada and other western countries, it is considered INCESTUOUS PEDOPHILIA. So in that respect, you people can call Nihhonjin's all pedophiles.

They like to share the love.
Joking aside, Japanese people were a very straight-laced people that lived with honor, discipline, loyalty, and perfection. But in turn, that also surpresses personal desires, wishes, and needs. When the Edo period rolled by, these desires and needs burst out into full play where the arts flourished as well as a notable increase in corruption. Sexuality was explored, red-light districts were born, ukiyo-e Shunga proliferated like wildfire (porno woodblocks/mags). It wasn't until the Meiji revolution that the old ways of going about life had to die. The social classes became nonexistent and people decided to go about their own lives the way they wanted to do it. Japan has become a culture of surpression and expression. What people do during the day most likely does not reflect what they do at night. Having given a nutshell rundown of Japan's history and culture that influenced pornography/hentai development, it's easily understandable why the Japanese culture differs from Western cultures in terms of nudity and the expression of sexuality.
Back on topic, it's understandable why other nations with different cultures would censor anime because they aren't Japan and do not share Japan's distinctively contradictory view on the expression of sex.
