My cable/internet provider is slowly killing me

I purposely avoided using the name to avoid any retaliation from giant corprate lawyers. both for myself and for this site. maybe i'm paranoid, but a clever lawyer might find a way to call this liable and crush any and all involved.
anyway...
my so called "high speed" internet connection has been crap slow for about the last two weeks. it works just barely well enough for email and posting here, but i can't watch any kind of streaming video, or play online games. i call their tech support, and some jerk tells me nothing is wrong, even though at the same time, i can't get online. every time i call i get some big run around and a load of lip sevice BS. a guy even came out and checked all my shit, and he told me the problem is the local nodes or some crap.
I'm starting to suspect they're pulling some OPEC or enron type shit. it always seems to get worse around the same time of day too. as if they are restricting the flow during peak usage hours to create a false demand. that way they can claim they need to charge more to improve service.
i have no actual proof, only susspicions. i seem to remember something about "them" vs. the FCC. they were supposedly doing just what i said in the last paragraph, and the FCC called them on it. then the afore non-mentioned service provider hid behind net nuetrality.
my point(aside from venting) is to see if anyone else is having a similar problem.

Three word: Evil Corporate Giants.
That is why I support THIS GUY in his music, it sports resistance and revolution to such things.

Lol. And here I thought I was paranoid. Well, in some ways I'm just as paranoid.
Anyway, that sucks but it might just be your computer and not some make-money-quick scheme by your Internet Service Provider. I'd recommend asking someone from the Computers and Technology section what could be up, with a vivid explanation of your issues (so that there isn't such a vast array of possibilities). If it seems that bad though, and you really want to fix the issue and can't wait much, maybe you should change your Internet and Cable provider.
That seems like even more trouble than a bad internet connection, however. Who knows, maybe this will come to an end pretty soon. But yeah, I think it might just be your computer. But what do I know? I don't know much about computers and I needlessly type "www" when visiting websites (not really).

They should really fix that. The last time my internet began to behave erratically, it turned out there was water in the cable. That wasn't the only problem, though - it turned out that the modem was not functioning correctly, either. It took a couple of weeks replacing lots of cables and devices to fix the problem.
...Speaking of which, I've been getting random outages recently. I should look into that.
Actual technical issues aside, you'll find that most ISP's will deliver you UP TO the advertised service speed, but hardly ever exact and never more. I also seem to recall a clause in my ISP's contract that exonerates them from this speed discrepancy. Oh, well.
Also, if you were referring to the Comcast vs. FCC case, the throttling refers specifically to torrent traffic. As a matter of fact, Comcast's reason for throttling torrent traffic is the retain more bandwidth for streaming video. Most other ISP's adopt a similar stance, so I'd doubt that is the reason for your problems.

well, your situation is probably like Tegumi said.
well, your case is still easy though, since I was once disconnected form the whole internet for more than 2 weeks, because some fiber optic cable that runs through the ocean near Thailand got cut because of an earthquake... can't complain anything about that lol

Thank you Tegumi. you are most likely spot on about them needing to replace their equipment.
i forgot what the case actualy was, but i was talking to someone about enron the other day. i guess that's why i was thinking it could be a similar situation. also i've become jaded and suspicious of large corporations.

I noticed another pattern. i don't use the cable box on my TV because i'm cheap. why pay the extra monthly fee if i can just plug it straight into the back. every few months the provider pulls one or two channels and makes them only accesable if you have a box*. also, other channels are screwed up, one has too much red, one is super bright and washed out, and onother is super dark and hard to see.
[size=10]*the stupidest one: TV guide channel. the box has built in guide, why would i ever look at TV guide cahnnel then?[/h]
