People, what is the word "absolute beauty" mean to you?
-1
Well, i ask you? be it philosophical or iyo explanation. this just came into my mind when our philo teacher gave us until monday to make an argument about it.
for me, absolute beauty varies on one person on how they look at the subject.

Your philosophy professor is going to chew you out on the spot if you give that generic answer.
Your professor isn't asking what absolute beauty means as a set definiton that's an umbrella term. He's asking for your specific opinion. While the proverbial, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," or "One person's junk is another person's treasure," expressions are true, you ought to be more specific than that.
- For example, I might define absolute beauty as the neverending quest to attain perfection in both the physical and mental sense, and that the quest itself cultivates that absolute beauty.
- Some people might define absolute beauty as perfection of the soul, e.g. the Virgin Mary and her purity and perfect personality or a person that is at complete peace with him/herself.
- Others might define absolute beauty as perfection in the bodily sense, such as Eve (God's vision of the perfect woman to accompany Adam) or a femme fatale.
- Some people might also define absolute beauty as a harmonious combination of both body and soul, such as a pregnant woman, a yamato nadeshiko, or the archetypal loyal housewife.
Point is, since beauty is subjective, it's best to give an opinionated answer rather than some wishy washy answer that everyone has heard about.

Absolute beauty? Still undefined. Every culture has their own definition of beauty, and within cultures, there is wide variation on what beautiful means to each individual. Of course there are certain factors that are nearly universally seen as "beautiful," such as having symmetrical features or being in good health, but those are are not sufficient enough to explain what we call "beauty."

Or instead of trying to manufacture some kind of elaborate explanation on something you may not be too sure about yourself, maybe you could say that it doesn't mean anything to you, and that you don't believe in such a thing. That's what I'd say to my philosophy teacher, whether they liked it or not.
But that assumes you're like me, which I doubt you are.

@Rbz: lol, that's what I would consider a smart-ass answer. I doubt you could use that excuse everytime you encountered something you didn't know about.
Btw, absolute beauty does not have to apply to humans. It can apply to everyday life, or of nature, or in the symmetry/arrangement of objects, etc.

I assume the word "absolute" in this context is being used to mean "perfect". It just so happens that I don't believe in a "perfect" anything. Even if I ask myself, what is "perfect" to me specifically, I can't think of anything that will not be flawed in some way.
If philosophy teachers have a problem with the truth as I see it, fuck them. Luckily for me, I don't need anymore philosophy credits.

To me, it is something that would be absolutely beautiful, refined and untouched, something that never has been, and never shall be, surpassed.
It can be a flawless execution of some old and grandiose plan, an art masterpiece, or wooing a that hard-to get woman and having her beg for more as poster above said.
It's something hard to describe, but once you have it, or done it, you know that "this is it".
Of course, it is impossible to give a generic, or precise answer, because of just how many things can be considered as "beauty" or as to how many factors can contribute to it. Ultimately, a definite answer is impossible, or it will cover only the half of actual truth.
One of reason why I gave up on my philosophy classes.
Bottom line, absolute beauty is a different thing, or even a concept to everyone else. To some it might simply be a thing of unparalleled physical beauty, to others an idea that is simply so well constructed that it cannot be disproved nor can it be countered by even a better idea because it is simply the best. To others it would be a pursuit of something perfect, or/and something that pushes his/her skill to it's absolute limit.
You can answer only based on what you specifically think about it.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder... and maybe a little in the face and mouth.

The only thing I can think of that is absolute, Is Absolute Zero
However Absolute is a funny word. Kind of like being told your salary will be based on "performance."
Absolute to me means weighing what I perceive to be absolute against reality
Forgive the large type. I have just had eye surgery And this is the smallest I can see at this time.

[size=10]I think this is a valid question. Obviously it's impossible for the entire population of the Earth to hold some single thing as beautiful, but phrased as a subjective question, it's perfectly okay to ask one person what he or she thinks of something that is (or should be) held as universally beautiful. Basically I was trying to reiterate g-money's point, but he put it much better than I could have.[/h]
For me, some mathematical equations are exceedingly beautiful. Something like Euler's identity, in which algebra (i), geometry/trigonometry (Ï€) and calculus (e) come together in a totally unexpected yet oh-so-simple way. Its proof can be explained step-by-step, but when its final product comes together, I can't help but have appreciation for the seemingly invisible underlying order and connectivity that exists in the physics of the universe.
Also for the same reason I find Newton's formulas beautiful in that a small set of equations can be used to explain and predict every single human-scale event applicable is astounding.
A lot of people in other places on the Internet have mentioned Maxwell's formulas to be beautiful in the same sense too, but unfortunately I have never been smart enough to "get" electromagnetism and so it is lost on me.

You're my kind of guy. I wouldn't really say the equations are absolute beauty, but the quest for that simplicity, yep.

I received a report indicating that this thread may be more suitable for the Random section. However, after looking through the replies, I figured that the thread should be given another chance, since it has the potential to develop further.
Getting back on topic, I believe the keyword here is "absolute". Beauty can refer to anything aesthetically pleasant, but throwing in the word "absolute" complicates matters. Does absolute beauty refer to the most beautiful object for one person, or must everyone agree on that fact? Even so, as time passes by, the definition of the same group of people might change throughout the various generations.

Absolute beauty for me is a person (preferrably a girl) has the looks, the grace, the emotional stability (preferrably no stability), the attitude and the intellect that is completely on her own level.

'Beauty' itself can have a whole bunch of meanings. Physically, you could look good, act perfect, other stuff. Mentally, you could be at peace with yourself, be smart, unique, etc.
However, to be abolsute, you need a combination of everything, in a way that noone ever sees anything that isn't good. You wouldn't be able to have any flaws, worries, or anything. So it's basically impossible.
On that note, beauty alone is more beautiful than absolute beauty. It's in everyone's flaws that we can be more attached to them, and develop as people.
