Procrastinate

:To put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done.
Let's face it. Surely you must have procrastinated before. Now, why do humans tend to do so? Is it because you believe someone else will do the deed? Or you know you can do it even at the last minute? Though such an act often results in failure, but seldomly some are able to do the job/work that is needed to be done.
Why is it though that we continue to procrastinate even though past events clearly show that it is often that failure results from procrastination?

I'm procrastinating right now!
I'm procrastinating because I find my work dull and it feels like I have so much to do. Strangely, thinking about how much is left makes me even less motivated to do it. But if I had less to do, I'd also be likely to put it off, thinking "I can finish it later in a rush". There's just no winning with you, is there, Procrastination?
Reason #2: It's boring. I have very little interest in this topic. If I truly enjoy the assignment I've been given, I can get right into it and stay focused for hours. However, right now I'm supposed to be looking in this database for articles on the effects of violent media on children. 90% of the articles are just repeating the same crap the other ones said. Very, very repetitive and dull. I'd be more inclined to do my work if...
1) I were assigned interesting articles to look up
2) Most of the articles didn't say the SAME. DAMN. THING.
As for your second part, why we continue to procrastinate after we should have learned our lessons... I'm not sure. I guess it just feels too good to pass up. Poor self-control is one of my biggest weaknesses.I suppose if I were stricter with myself and could bring myself to do things I don't want to do, I would have less troubles with procrastination.
Personally, it doesn't come down to rewards/punishments. I don't fear punishment for slacking, nor can a reward motivate me to do my work. It's all about my own feelings at the time.

I'll tell you all about it later.haha hilarous.
Hmm...so why do people procrastinate even though it only results in stress often followed by failure? I guess in my case I only procrastinate because I am lazy and have my priorities out of order. Although this is clearly poor work ethics, I find it the only way to motivate myself to actually tackle the task at hand. I guess I just work better when the pressure is on.
So in my opinion, I feel that it ultimately comes down to ones priorities and preferred working environment. In most cases, its probably that the persons priorities are backwards and would prefer having the good now and the bad later. I know I do.

We're all lazy people aren't we?
We humans tend to do things that has to benefit us, and though knowing you'll be more stressed in the future, you will care more about your present than your future.
You should've made this a poll and asked Who here procrastiantes? :D

People tend to procrastinate because whatever it is that they're avoiding stresses them out or causes some form of anxiety. It's like myself not wanting to do a big college project that's worth a shitload of points or math homework. Both tend to stress me out so I put them off and get them done when I feel obligated to do it or have to do it.
It's an odd plan to run away from a problem or prolong getting it done, rather than tackle it and take it down right away (so that you don't have to worry about it)... but it's still a commonly used and prominent method. Well, that's how I see it.

The way I see it, people procrastinate because the thing that they have to do is so very unnappealing. (in most cases.) When people look at the two choices, they often go for the better one. often times, consequences are ignored in the process. So it leads to repeat itself, because we never think of the consequences for the actions we put off. It's impulse.
Just another of the many aspects of human nature.

Xactly, we tend to put off work that are stressful but isn't that stress doubled when hurrying to finish said task?
A reason might be that we tend to enjoy life to the fullest and tell ourselves that it will all work out in the end somehow.
Now, do you think laziness is connected to procrastinating?

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
I have a good balance of procrastination and work ethic.
If it doesn't need to be done now, fuck it.
If it does, then I may as well do it.
Then I'll bitch about doing it, even while realizing that I coulda just done it earlier, and I could be busy being lazy now. It's a delicate cycle.

I suppose we procrastinate because by nature, we as humans are lazy and usually pick the option with the least amount of work needed. But when the work needs to be done and there's really no way out of it we stall, and our minds become host to a large scale struggle between our lazy base nature, and our conscience telling us that it needs to be done (plus past experiences of epic failure). That's how i see it anyways. :p
