Soda can cause cancer?

I didn't believe it at first, but apparantly if you drink one soda a day, your chances for getting Pancriatic Cancer go up by roughly 80-90%.
And for those of you who don't know what Pancriatic Cancer is, its the most leathal form of cancer, with only a 5% chance of lasting over a year or two after it develops.

Like everything else, yes.
Soda will not give you cancer just like that. There are some that uses sugar substitutes like Aspartame for example, (mostly used in light products), and the sweeteners sometimes increases the risk of cancer. But it's not like the risk increases astronomically, and if you do get cancer, it is most likely Not from drinking soda, nor eating fried potato or anything else that is supposed to increase the risk of cancer.

That is true, but I believe they said it was something to do with the carbination

Actually, this news seems to be all over the place, according to my quick google search. Here, here, etcetera.
So far there seems to not be enough investigation to prove that sodas do cause this much chance to contract cancer. So yeah, it's up to you.
This is major bad news for me, as I quite enjoy soft drinks.

I feel the same way. But then again, the chances of getting PC (don't feel like spelling out the whole thing) are still so low, even with that huge increase in the chances, its still unlikely.

The only soft drink I enjoy once in a while is Cream soda imported from Hong Kong. Just as long as you don't drink it everyday, then it's fine right? I don't see many people drinking it so often nowadays unless it's a celebration or a need to.

If you bothered to search for 2 minutes, you would know that they claim "as much as 2 per week" is enough to give you cancer.

Wait a minute, this is ridiculous. They're making a big fuss about it now or is something added to all the new drinks? I can't believe I haven't hear of this since everyone's been drinking soda for as long as I've known.

SD is not a groupthink parade. We disagree, make arguments, and feelings get hurt.
The only real rule, is to express your opinions eloquently, and allow others to disagree after you run out of ammunition.
On topic (because that is probably also a rule):
The fucking sun gives you cancer.
I think some soda/cigarettes/sex/friedfish is not that big a deal.
It is reasonable that people haven't heard about it, since pancreatic cancer is still in the grey, as diseases go.

Does this count for Energy drinks? because I have drank one of those at least once a day/every second day.

I drink almost nothing but soda, coffee on rare occasions when I want to save money or tea. What do you expect me to drink, water???
Alright kidding aside, we have to admit that a lot of what we eat can potentially kill us someday, even the chicken breasts out there. How many years are you gonna gain by living perfectly healthy? Lets assume its 5, what can you do with 5 years when youre that old? Compared to living a suppressed life til you reach that age, I guess id rather live it to the fullest now while I can. I could go crazy on health, but I could get hit by a truck tomorrow and just die instantly. But this is just me, and im most likely just wrong

Wow if soda causes cancer, i was dead because i lived drinking soda for 5 years. nothing happnedtry reading the other posts.
I said that the chances of getting Pancreatic cancer are very low. so even with the 80% chance increase, its still unlikely

I'm very skeptical. The last few years everything from ketchup to cigarettes has been proven to heighten the risk of getting cancer by so-and-so many %, when the truth is that in most cases you need to consume such bizarre amounts of the products each day that you would be dead from other causes before the cancer would get to you.
I don't know, but that 2 cans (33cl I presume?) a week would cause cancer sounds unlikely. I'm more interested in what extremely potent substance is used in these drinks to increase the risk so dramatically. Sadly the CBS article didn't mention anything but "sugar" which increases the insulin levels to the degree that it would cause cancer.

I dont think its totally true that soda can cause cancer but its always possible.
(Such if you drink too much Coke or Pepsi because they taste like venom to me)
I once was taught by my biology professor, that whenever you make (popcorn) or heat something up in the microwave and as soon it finish. You open up that microwave and take a sniff of that air in there that it can cause a future cancer or raise the risk.
But the odds are like 0.08% of happening because to this very day, mankind had been evolve or "mutated" in our genes to this new environment. So if our grand-parents had been drinking alcohol then something like soda shouldn't be a big deal.
