The 30-something year old 'anarchists' that caused most of the damage need to find a better hobby, and it was mostly (from what I heard) random chavs that came along to throw shit. Get past that, and you have 50,000 on the march chanting 'here we come, Tory scum' with Clegg placards, and booing footage of him. :)
It's a shame that less was made of that, the actual opinions of normal people rather than the nutters, but equally there's a bit of 'all publicity is good publicity' about it. If people assume the violence was mostly the attendees of the march, it shows the strength of feeling; but then, you're still otherwise looking at a protest on par with that over the Iraq war, and more in tone with the Thatcher era. It's just nice to see some proaction in challenging the bullshit policies and Lib Dem U-turns, to be honest.

I tend to agree with the girls at the end of the video. In many cases such as this, a certain coterie of people are drawn out from under their rocks to cause needless mayhem in an otherwise "peaceful" protest. I'm all for the students' cause, being one myself, but I'm fairly sure this isn't what they wanted to happen.
Additionally, I'm ashamed of the local police and riot force that utterly failed at keeping the group under control. Thousands of dollars of damage were caused due to their incompetence.
