Technology

It's a natural part of a sentient species' progression.
I just think that it's important for people to apply their understanding of the symbiotic relationships between Earth and all its inhabitants. We have to closely monitor ourselves and our surroundings...augment what we produce as a result of our technological progression so as to keep some semblance of balance.

Technology, good or bad, is unavoidable; that, I believe, has been made blatantly obvious in this thread. But that's not the question you asked, so I don't know why people are addressing it.
The question being asked is whether or not technology, as it advances, is good for us? If we're asking that question, then we have to understand what exactly technology is.
Technology, in its simplest form, is anything produced by human hands that is not immediately consumed but aids/is used in our daily lives. Something as simple as a cup or a chair can be considered technology because its purpose, at its core, is to help us.
All technology that has been and will be made exists/will exist to be used by us. It is a neutral power in that it has no hidden agenda or motives; a knife won't stab you on its own because it hates you, just like nuclear power doesn't turn itself into a warhead and launch itself at a country because it felt like having fun. Everything that happens with technology happens because of human interaction with it.
In essence, technology is a physical manifestation of our human nature; whether we solve the world's problems or end up killing ourselves with it depends entirely upon us.
So, to answer your question, no, I don't think technology is good for us, but I also don't think it's the devil. We are the ones that are bad for us, so long as we stay on a path towards this global disaster-tastrophe of destruction and ruin.
Kind of a bleak and abysmal take on the subject, but just felt like putting in my two cents.
PS: Curse FAKKU for making me capitalize all my sentences. It's the one grammar rule I've never followed when posting online in any forum, and I'll be damned if I have to start here.
...
Just kidding, FAKKU, I luw you.

Well of course humans are the sources of everything. I mean, technology itself is created by humans in the first place. But the fact that some technology like I've listed are used mainly for evil purposes, and are assumed as evils. And the same for beneficial advancements as well. And as our innovations get more and more powerful, the ones used for evil will have consequences that can never be taken back. Maybe the good will cancel it out. Hence the quetion, is technology good or bad?

Technology, for lack of a better word, is good. but it can be bad with the wrong intentions/approach. That is why I'm skeptical of WolfgangLuciferMclain's argument that we need to adapt to technology. We have to adapt to it? Does that not make us slaves, in a sense, to technology? That kind of thinking can be just as harmful as what it preaches against.
From a purely philosophical point of view, technology is meant to help understand and reveal our world to us. If you've ever read Heidegger, who spent a great deal of his time concerning technology's role in the modern world, you'd probably have a feel for what I'm talking about. What we as humans commit our lives to is the revealing of that which is unknown to us.
Technology's role then is to order what we have revealed into coherent forms and patterns so that we may reveal more hidden truths. Technology is the ordered truth which we use to find more truths. This is why technology advances as rapidly as it does; the more we reveal of the world, the greater our technological feats become. Through technology we can discover and claim more truths and knowledge that are still hidden from us in this world.
Technology's danger is when we fail to grasp this claim to further knowledge and become fixated on the actual ordering of technology itself. Becoming entangled in the creation of technology for its own sake is what births things like atom bombs and nuclear weapons; these weapons, like any other weapons, were created for their own sake. We do not learn anything or are aided in any way from their creation.
That's why I'm skeptical of WolfgangLuciferMclain's approach. I'm not saying it's completely wrong; human beings are conditioned animals. We live under the conditions set upon us by the world, by everything that exists. Technology's existence makes it yet another condition we have to live under, but it is distinct in that it is a condition we placed on ourselves.
In a sense, we must adapt (as WolfgangLuciferMclain put it) to this condition as well. But the fact remains that we need to keep our eyes on the prize; otherwise, we make things like hydrogen bombs, and that's a condition I'm sure no one likes living under.
Jeez, I just realized how much I wrote. But, yea.
tl;dr - Technology isn't bad. We just haven't been putting it to the best use, and that's what makes it seem bad.

Advancing technology, good or bad?As technology/science/etc advances, there are so many benefits that come from it. But there are also cons when there are pros. The imminent(?) AI takeover, the robot army, biological warfare, hacking, further questioning of the existence of a God (I don't know if this is good or bad), etc
Also, more and more spoiled brats everywhere.
What's your take on it?
Technology is never the problem, humans are. The kind of humans who use the technology can either use it for good or bad. Take nuclear fission for instance, you can either use it as a bomb or a source of abundant power. AI like IBM's Watson could be used to find proper treatments for cancer or used in drone warfare (not sentient AI but basic AI). Water can either drown people or provide necessary nourishment for life. It's the people who use the technology that decides if the purpose will be moral or not.
You brought in the questioning of God as a bad thing, as if the absence of belief in religion will leave men corrupt. That's another discussion entirely so let's not get into that.

The advancement of some uses of technology over others is a human decision and the argument still remains that humans are the cause of technological abuse.
Side-note: People need to stop writing long winding essays and write clear, concise, to-the-point responses. Numerous "wall of texts" will only deter people away from replying to the thread.

Tech is good. The reason why it's bad right now is 1. Tech itself hasn't evolved enough and 2. Trashes of people using it the wrong way. D:
