The concept of time travel
0
Time is relative. Just think about it:
when you think about something you don't have the concept of time. Your thoughts are faster than anything, and I am talking about "instantenous" thoughts. If we must then tal about speed of light and things like this, I could assume that time travels are possible. The reality cannot be acknowledge into his totality by the men, and I am looking for answers, stopping and thinking about it.

EVEN BETTER!!!!! Go back in time. Bitch slap Jesus see what happens!!!God wouldn't allow that though, unless you went back just in time when he was getting whipped.... but it wouldn't matter by then

I just want to test the books and see if what they say is true. who knows Jesus could just be the first man ever to use a time machine?????vv

That would be a very scary thought, not to mention christians everywhere would be coming over just to pummel you for even thinking that thought :)
Though you raise a good point, what if all the 'famous' kind of people we know now, were those people who were successful in the theory of time travel but failed to figure a way back to their own time (or are merely doubles from a different reality)
... after reading this entire thread.. my head hurts o_=

like, time doesn't exist for a simple organism such as bacteria and it moves slower for the more intelligent beings
putting yourself into cold sleep would preserve your body and memories and in your perception, you would have passed through time almost instantly by the time you wake up :P

Time travel is only possible to do if you only go into the past and never into the future.

Im quite sure that "science-fiction-like" time travel is impossible, allthough stuff like freezing oneself or even staying in a coma for a while are exceptions. Nevertheless I like thinking about it a lot (just like you guys), it even gives me sleepless nights because of the paradoxons.
btw: I myself traveled from 1987 to today. just took me my whole lifetime =).

Time Travel into the future is a totally possible ,and has even been done (to a VERY small extent). Now actually going back in time while heavily theorized ,and in some accepted theories possible given the correct circumstance , is not well enough understood to be put into play anytime soon due to the fact it would involve warping space and time , and in some calculations even resulted in situation where the very fabric of the universe would be torn.

sure feel free to look up any of the follow-up work Frank Tipler did for his paper "rotating cylinders and the possibilities of global causality violation"...I'm not going to lie I am more then a lil inebriated right now ,and don't feel like posting the whole thing or reading through it again to find the exact info for you..also the dude is a bit of a crackpot

Heard of his "Omega point" stuff. I have to say, I'm really happy that the good physicists at the university I go to dont even give a damn about such things.

that's a bit of a narcissistic point of view to have..admittedly his stuff is far-fetched , but to discredit him without ever reading the paper is the exact opposite of what a "good physicist" would do...in fact it's down right arrogant. I know it's likely a bunch of mumbo jumbo , but I never stated it as an undisputed fact , I simply said "that some calculations have shown" which is true..some did.

If time and space is relative and curved, going to a place that hasn't happen yet is like driving on a road then drive over a canyon, even ought a bridge will be there in the future, can't drive over a maybe. it also part of the alt dimension theory, if it is possible to go into the future, it only the future of the sec you left since chance and change alter the future. But this is a theory from Hawkins and my own read, and pot... lots of pot.

First of all, I have to say I'm really radical when it comes to my opinions, so dont take it personal when I sound a bot insulting. On top of that, I dont (and didnt) consider myself a good physicist.
It's just you know, the Omega Point stuff is just jump after jump of ridiculous "conclusions" just to fit in the world view of the author. You just cant call that scientific work.
About the paper: Well he just theorizes about an abstract finite cylinder as a "time machine", but I dont get where you see the destruction of the fabric of time and space...

to make your disscusions simpler you have meant like this:
when someone traveled across time, a disturbance is caused.
the disturbance can cause the other dimensions be altered in some ways
unfortunately, it is like a domino effect. especially if 'conservation of energy' law is nullified because of infinity. this disturbance will riochet back to the sender.
causing this to happen, may alter/break the timeline of the source. causing the paradox like a loop.
