The Marines.
A little while ago I started a topic about me considering joining the FBI. And the overwhelming response I got was on of immense support towards the Marines. So I figured I'd create a thread for those who support or are a marine.
And before I start, I have a lot of history with the marines. my grandfather was a Marine Raider during WWII, the Marine Raiders are to the marines what the seals are to the navy, the best of the best of the best. And I've often said that if I'm ever going to join the armed forces I would go all out and join the marines.

Few generations back, grandfather was a codebreaker in WWII. Yes, one of those people who could think in numbers. I don't know much about him, apart from the fact that he's British and a direct part of my bloodline...
Hopefully my brain-line too.

My Grandfather was at Dunkirk the first time, got injured and got to England, so they put him on the AA guns and he didn't have to go back to France.
There's a Royal Marines Commando base right near me, they seem alright but they're English so I can't help you there.

waw that sounds cool man all we have is the sas oh well lol
but honestly if you like it then go for it but there is alot of need for the armed forces at the moment but im sure you don't need me to tell you that. im just saying your a nice guy who could be put in life or death situations do you really want to die for a convoluted justice?
these are things that you will have to think about when you soghn your life away to the marines. i don't want to put such a downer on this so id like to say there are good things about the armed forces to like the id search and rescue plus if your a part of them maybe you won't kill so many of our troops? lol im joking about the last one but go for it if you want it

He didn't say he was going, he said if he ended up going into the armed forces in any capacity.
I think throwing yourself into the military is only something you want to do if you really want to escape your life at home. Otherwise you'd be better off working within your country making money or outside making money for your country. It would be more admirable, especially if you live in America, where they have finally noticed that the USA might not be king when it comes to money anymore.

I don't know of any direct connection to the core in my family since a majority of them went for either the Army or the Navy. I have been entertaining the idea of joining the armed forces for several reasons such as the mistake I made passing up higher education and the fact without such an education I would be doomed to a pretty sad life. That and I could use the discipline in my life as I am a rather lazy person. The ability is there but, I don't have the discipline or the motivation to use it.
I choose the marines because they are considered a cut above the army and have an awesome reputation with employers. They hire retired military personnel before college grads unless the college grad is better beyond a shadow of a doubt. I figured if I don't get my life together in a few months then I might as well join the core and get paid and get an education.

Money, Purpose ,and Education. Those are the reasons I would enlist. Though, I would prefer to leave the service after four years instead of getting out when I'm 30.

Yep even if your only in for 4 years you get the discipline and training and 80k for college and It will be easy to find a job and lots of benefits for the rest of your life and for your children.

I guess that's just the army. I also find it slightly less appealing to do four years of service then get out and then go to college. I guess its better to graduate college at 28-30 rather than never attend.

oh you can go to college for free while your in its just if you choose not to you have 80k to do so later

If you do ROTC in college then they will pay for your school. (you are technically in the military during ROTC) Then when you get out you'll serve as an officer for about... five years maybe? So you'd be finishing college before you're on the front lines.

They have instructors on base or their is also the internet for it, Also you wont be frontlines all 4 years you will be stationed on the east or west coast, Japan, or hawaii

I've entertained notions of joining the Navy, Army, and Marines, if any of them would have me.
I admire the armed forces greatly. Not for the whole "Love your country" bullshit they try to drill into you during boot, but for the fact that these people can shed the comfy lifestyle we have nowadays and go to hellholes like Iraq.
And survive.
Though, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that, even if I did pass basic, the AF do not want someone who cannot have "America FTW" drilled into them.
I might join a Merc...err, Private Military company if I get a chance, though. Freelancing suits me better.
