The World in Your Eyes

Talk about
1) where you are from
- NJ, USA
2) where you find most interesting
- Fave place from my travels would be Brazil and Japan
3) A place you would never visit
- I don't think I'd pass up visiting anywhere!
4) A place you have hope for.
- Would love to go to the Netherlands.
5) How you see the 1st world/3rd World
- Yes: lots of it, inc. South/Central America, parts of Vietnam, China, Cambodia... can't recall all.
6) interesting but relevant thoughts
- The opening post's pic is a really sheltered world view that, sadly, many people hold true.
If you travel lots or at the least seek to learn more about the rest of the world beyond your home, you'll find there's plenty to offer.

1) where you are from: America!!! Chicago suburbs to be exact.
2) where you find most interesting: Geologically beautiful places
3) A place you would never visit: I would say Somalia but it would be interesting to see how people live there. France and Canada where they speak French because they are arrogant D-bags.
4) A place you have hope for. The whole world really, but I'm gonna focus on America first.
5) How you see the 1st world/3rd World: There is a big difference between 1st and 3rd countries. I believe that most of these problems would be solved with real democracy and not strong men and juntas controlling them.
6) interesting but relevant thoughts: Sometimes I wonder what would happen waht would have been if history was alittle different. Like if Lincoln wasn't shot or Saladin was never born.

I was born and raised in California, though I lived in Kyoto as well. In history class we would cover a variety of subjects from a variety of places, but they were a mile wide and an inch deep. When I moved to Japan, I learned that (in my class at least) people were still very isolated, not only geographically, but in thought as well. Much of the history is not just factual, but the matter of heart also came into play a lot of the time.Between America and Japan, I'd much rather live in Japan. Although the politeness is often mechanical and expected of everyone around them, I feel that since I've lived in America beforehand, it's a welcome change. I'd rather live where I am treated the same everywhere rather than given strange looks if I went to another state. However, I would love to visit many places in Europe, like France. I also want to see what it's like to live in Canada (I swear, I feel like all my favorite North American artists live there and that they have 70%+ of the talent).
I visit the Philippines often, and I don't like it there, even though part of the blood in my veins is Filipino. I can't stand the corruption that goes on, nor can I stand the sweltering heat or humidity, and definitely not the state of the poor. I just want to shake some sense into some of my cousins, who believe that once you're in America, everything gets better. It doesn't. To this day, America is still a place of gold to many third-world countries, and that worries me.
Though I dislike the physical location of the Philippines, I also have some hope for the country. Filipinos all over the world are listening, and not just accepting...but they want to make a difference. The yearly monsoons, the rate of crime, the state of politics there...I have met so many young people like myself who are determined to change the state of these things, and I believe that they can do it.
I do my best not to see one country as "better" than the other. I am fascinated by the very fact that so many cultures can coexist in one world, and yet can still find similarities between them. Unfortunately, that also means that a whirlwind of differences can be picked at, which often leads to disagreements that could be understood if the parties would just sit down and listen.
I wish that people would stop looking over where the grass is supposedly greener, because someone else will always say that their life is harder than yours. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it isn't. But it's not a competition, is it? I have known too many people who will always ask me how my day is, and then somehow try to one-up me for one reason or another just to make themselves look as if they are busier or have more problems or whatever. Yes, it would be easier to live as a rich girl. There have been times where I wished I was born into a rich family. But I am just glad that I have my own thoughts, and that I can listen and try to understand what others share with me.

1 Where are you from?
All over the eastern united states, never lived in one place for more than 4 years
2 Where do you find most interesting?
Japan. The cutthroat competitiveness and history along with religion/ culture in general plus the whole applying san samma chan etc fascinates me as much as the french's vous to tu. plus i have a soft spot for anime, especially the ones that are cruel to their characters.
3 A place you would never visit?
North Korea. There is no need to explain.
4. A place you hope for
America. Not because we are starving (we're not) not because there is war in the streets (there isn't) maybe a little for the whole depression thing with wallstreet and banks breaking the country with dirty dealing. But because we are spoiled fucking assholes. I know how spoiled I am, but that doesn't stop me from playing my games, cranking the heat up to rediculous degrees, eat meals that could feed families, etc etc. I have realized that by being born with these things at my disposal, I will never be able to give them up, and will fight to keep them. And it also seems that America believes it will always be like this. I'm sure England thought the same way, as did France at one point, all the way back to Rome. There is nothing wrong with that, that's the way the world works. Once nation leads in power and innovation, only to be replaced by the next, etc etc. But I hope that we as Americans will be able to handle not being rich or important. That we can handle barely staying alive during the winter. I can't tell if what appears to me as a mutual faultless selfishness has made us softer, or has made strong in our need to fight for it. I guess in the end, I just wonder what Americans can really do, as opposed to what they have been doing.
How do you see the 1st world vs 3rd world countries?
I believe that they will be 1st world countries at some point in the future, it's impossible for them not to be. But that doesn't mean that you can't help them. They have it rough to put it quite lightly, I feel for them. While in Guatemala, I got to simulate the lifestyle (albeit a rich Guatemalan lifestyle)Dirt floors and unclean water are no laughing matter, but some can't afford the cleansed bottled water. I can't exactly put into words what it feels like to me, but I know that eventually, if the world doesn't end first, they will have their time as a world leader. Even if its a reformed and renamed country, they will eventually have clean water and carpeted floors.
ps not all of Guatemala is like that, didn't mean to leave that impression. But it was what stood out the most. Everywhere in America, the water can be drank, and the floors are at least linoleum.
Also didnt mean to imply that rome and england and france are shitty places to live or anything like that, nor did i Mean to say that America is the most important country our anything else... but it just seems America might be on top....for now

1. im from mexico raised in the us and curently liveing back in mexico(1 years time)
2. japan and europe. ive always wanted to see the colasseum and all that famous architectrue europe is known for. i find japan interesting becuase they are 2-3 steps ahead of the world in tecnology while still being full of culture.
3. theres no place id never realy visit. i find the world so interesting and amuseing that id like to visit all of it. even if i rn into some depressing or inhumain sights.
4. the world ..... lets face it, the whole worlds in deep shit lately.
5. first off the idealisum behind first world (or at least this is the way i think of it) isnt haveing alot of money or a strong government or anything of the sort,so basicly any place can be 1st world class,. to me 1st world is the civilians or population of that countery city whatever haveing food medacine and a home for everyone.so the reason some places are conciterd 3rd W.C. is cuase of the people. either those too ignorent or thoes that find themselves in a nonprouduceful land and dont seek out ways to help the land become prouduceful. or those groupes of people who seek power and keep their fellow citizens from makeing progress.(sorry if i misunderstud the question)
6. i think if the world quit beeing so selfish and got rid of boundries got rid of ethnic groupes and money and see each other as humans shered whith each other without greedy intentions if we could live together without trying to be supirior or more powerful than th other, we may just make the world a better place.

1) My name is irrelevant. Born and Raised in the state of Michigan, of the United States.
2) Anywhere you go in the world, theres something to see. I have a deep love of Middle Europe, specifically towards northern Germany and the Danish culture. I also like Japan for the countries beauty and culture, China for its unique landscape, Russia for Father Winter, so on and so forth.
3) Somalia, and much of turbulent Africa. Too risky.
4) I have hope for the day that incompetence and ingnorance is no longer the expected behaviour of man.
5) The idea of 1st and 3rd worlds is total bullshit. People do whatever they feel is neccessary to live, or just whatever they feel like. I dont care to judge a country or people by their economics.
6) Im curious as to how Europe will handle their issues with the Euro. How will America address her current problems? What does it take to become a Canadian Citizen >:)

> where you are from
AMERICA (FUCK YEAH) Specifically, KY INTENSE, the greatest* state of all.
> where you find most interesting
I intend to move to Canada ASAP. I love snow, I want to see the tundra, I want to get out of America for once, and I want to test out my French skills.
> A place you would never visit
I'm never going back to Detroit. Never. Just no.
> A place you have hope for.
I have hope for the open seas, where I intend to spend at least a month or two. It's not a wise notion, but it would be uncharacteristic of me to renege on that just because it's a dumb idea.
> How you see the 1st world/3rd World
I see the "3rd world" as people who have either been taken advantage of by the "1st world" or as people who refuse to change and become like the 1st world people. I think that's a valid answer.

1) I'm from the Philippines and I grew up with a family that loved foreign cultures.
2) I actually find a lot of places interesting due to their rich cultures and traditions and here's the list:
Japan- The land of the rising sun, the place were two atomic bombs were dropped to end the World War II. As I grew up with one of my Aunts who loved Japanese culture, I was curious enough to learn how Japanese people live and how they lived. I found their history very rich, samurais, shoguns, daimyos etc. Too many to further explain.
Italy- Ah, the Italian Republic. What had caught my attention was their delicious cuisines that I wouldn't dare miss when I have a chance to eat.
Germany, France, Sweden etc
I basically want to travel all over the world
3) I probably wouldn't want to go to a place that would endanger me, like those places with non-ending feud. I wouldn't want a random bullet go through my head.
4) A place you have hope for? I would say what do I have hope for. Hope for humans.
5) How you see the 1st world/3rd World. I see first world countries as countries that striven to be one. Specially Japan, their technology is very admirable. I come from a 3rd world country and I see it as the fault of ignorant people.
6) Interesting but relevant thoughts
I love this world of ours, excluding the things that make it unlovable.

1) Born in Thessaloniki(Greece) and lived there 7 years, then moved up north to my grandma's village Lefkonas(~50km to Bulgarian Boarders), and moved between the two until I was 18, not so much now.
2)Hmm... Sweden I guess, I have a aunt from there and I remember my amazement when I first talked about with her about how things are and move up there where "sun don't shine" or at least warm you up, in my early teens.(less amazed when we went to a local beach and it didn't take even 3 hour for the sun to get her red as a tomato)
Have to admit that while it seemed as "cold" socially structured place at first, it made a lot more sense when I grew up, and found out how socially awkward we were first handed.
3)Too many to name. War zones, areas/countries subjected to a dictator or an unlawful state, countries filed with dangerous wild life and/or deceases.
Third world countries sums it up.
4)Mars.
5)I don't see them, I experience them firsthand.
I live in a country that qualified as 1st world slowly degrading to 3rd.
Degrading health care, removal of social safety nets, government agencies privatization, poverty, unemployment.
Hell, we even have a Prime Minister that wasn't elected by the Greek public right now.
6)Interesting future for the little green blue ball and it's citizens ahead.
Will we make this planet uninhabitable for future generations?
Will economic affairs of states shake social structures to their cores?
Will... will... will...
...Interesting years to come.

1) where you are from
I'm from the Philippines
2) where you find most interesting
Guess Japan, since i like their culture and guessing most of them don't have the fear of being jugdged, i mean look at how they dress.(in Tokyo anyways) also i like their dicipline
3) A place you would never visit
Bottom of the ocean.. I guess i would visit them all if i have to, i mean there are most likely i won't visit, there not never.
4) A place you have hope for.
I have hope for the world, not just a single place, but for the whole world, hope that racism would be minimal, would be impossible to abolish i believe
5) How you see the 1st world/3rd World
Not really sure how to describe but, i think it's just the same, i mean i believe that there are pros and cons everywhere, so it really depends on the person if one could survive in a certain place
6) interesting but relevant thoughts
It not really the lack of power or riches that makes a country a 3rd world, but the lack of education makes it a 3rd world.. Good education means better workforce, better workforce means better economy, better economy means better country. Is what i believe

1) where you are from
I'm from Sweden.
2) where you find most interesting
I find a lot of places interesting in different regards. I would love to go basically everywhere, from a metropolian high-end city like Tokyo, Dubai or NY to a third world village and everywhere in between. Right now I would love to travel around South East Asia, more specifically Vietnam, Kambodja and Burma, now that it have opened up somewhat. I spent a month in Vietnam as an exchange student a few years ago and it was great, and incredibly eye-opening to meet a culture so unlike your own.
3) A place you would never visit
I don't really know, places that are outright dangerous to visit I guess.
4) A place you have hope for.
I don't know this either to be honest, I've fallen behind on the happenings in the world, but I have a hope for the countries in Africa that have been influenced by the overthrowing of governments and whatnot that have been happening. Hopefully they'll be able to sort their shit out and not get caught by more dictatorships and bad leaders.
5) How you see the 1st world/3rd World
I see the 3rd World as the steppingstone that the 1st World stands on. It's a damn shame, but the truth is that someone will have to suffer for our on comfort, else our prices would go up, and we would not be able to live in the luxury that we do.
6) interesting but relevant thoughts
What am I supposed to write here anyway? I wish for world peace and that I'll be able to visit most of the world before I die, I wish that people weren't so ignorant and bigoted and xenophobic. People are afraid of everything and everyone else, and in this rate we will be penned together in small communities where everyone hates on everyone not from that area. The world is a fucked up place, but we have to enjoy and love it for what it is, and try our best to be open minded and tolerant. If everyone just got the sticks out of their asses the world would be a much nicer place.
I'm from Sweden.

1) where you are from: Born and raised in Canada.
2) where you find most interesting: I would love to travel everywhere and learn all I could about different cultures and religions to expand my opinions/view of the world. I try to talk to all my friends about culture and get them interested as well and sometimes learn new things.
3) A place you would never visit : Just try to avoid dangerous situations/areas along my travels.
4) A place you have hope for: I hope the world and all of it's people will one day stop over thinking things pull together as a people and help others indiscriminately rather than putting stock into outdated thoughts and putting those into power who think not of the past or present but look towards the future.
5) How you see the 1st world/3rd World: We all have our problems some more so than others but all afraid of common problems.
6) interesting but relevant thoughts: I enjoy to help people whether it be giving change to the homeless when they ask or helping friends with issues, these are small things but why try to help everyone in the world when you ignore those whom are closest to you.

1) Australia, tragically.
2) Japan. I'd like to live there, mainly because I'd like my life to be a little more... orderly. I'm also quite fond of France and Ireland.
3) I dunno. Somalia, I guess.
4) Basically everywhere. Even the USA.
5) We don't do nearly enough to help the Third World. The situation that many inhabitants are in could have been repaired if we weren't so selfish in the past.
6) The world isn't so bad. Humans can be selfish, petty and cruel, but we also have tremendous capacity for altruism, compassion and selflessness. Less innocents suffering is always a good thing, which is why my family has always donated to charity.

1. I'm From the United States, NY to be exact.
2. Japan, I would love to go see the sea sides, city life and night life.
3. Antarctica, had to go with this.
4. North Carolina, reason why I say this is because my Wallet can be a bit fuller there.
5. Om man, The current state that I'm in right now just makes me wonder human existence sometimes. Violence, murder, corruption, and cruelty. Yes, I can honestly say that I've taken part of but everyday I'm sickened at the world of what people and money can do to someone. Now yea maybe the depression is kicking in but I'm sick of civilization as we know it. Of course there are people in the world I admire and like. I think I may need to just lie down and think.
