This Makes More Sense Than Religion?
0
Hey there Fellow Fakku! dwellers, it's been a LONG while since I have made a post, let alone comments, here in the forums. After a long absence, I wanted to ask you all a simple question, but first, allow me to run by you the theory I have in mind:
Everyone has a religion that they are dedicated to, be it loosely, freely, or steadfast, there are people who follow religion. There are people who do not, and give a reason for their choice to NOT follow a religion, which then leads to a neutral following of their own path. Now with all of this following, many say that their reason for being here is because of their religions spiritual workings: "God put me here," or "Zenu will come back for us eventually."
However there is no cold hard proof god exists, maybe there are highly in-coincidental happenings that say he does, but nothing exact and set in stone. This leads to the theory of: Your parents are YOUR god(s). Think about it for a second, if people want to give due credit to whoever put them here, why not your parents? Before them, there was another pair who put them here to, we all stem from a pair of a man and a woman.
So the question is: Does it, or does it not make sense, to say you can worship your parents? Create your own religion called Parentology, that acknowledges your biological mother and father as gods, who have given life to you, to experience life in its many ways? Does it or does it not make more sense to say parents are the true Adam and Eve of the world? Your parents exist, but this force of karma and god is all too questionable
Your thoughts?

Interesting...
For you to have a religion, to believe in God, you'd need faith, regardless of science or proof. They'd figure you came from your parents, and them from their parents and so on, and the OP was God, so they worship him.
It is true i came from my parents, but i view them, most of the time, only as human wallets. I'd probably only worship some who is stronger and better, in every aspect, than me. My parents are human, so i can kill just them (not that i will) then i'd become God. If your going to view your parents as gods, and them, your grandparents, there gon be a shitload of gods.
And besides, for all i kno, I could've been an accident. If u wanna make a religion with ur parents as gods, go ahead.

Well. Given the pointlessness of religion itself, going all the way to invent a new one...
You have a lot of free time, sir. I'm jealous.

[font=Verdana][color=green]Certainly a wild theory, but it does make sense, in a way. However, being a God suggests omnipotency, something which humans cannot possess.
But to shoot down KnowsnoNoseBleed, just killing your parents won't make you God. It'll just make you parentless, and a murderer at that. To be a God, you'll need to have followers.

No, this does not make sense for a variety of reasons.
First of all is that you could not actually come to think of your parents as gods, without being exceptionally addled. Humans are not gods, and the only difference between your parents and other people, is that you share their genetics. They are not gods for giving birth to you, as that is a natural biological function for any animal. Also, people don't worship who put them on earth, they worship whatever fantasy they have concocted that put EVERYTHING here. Otherwise people would be worshipping stuff like transportation (Oh thank you for depositing me at this most fortuitous Bus stop mighty overlord, thank you for putting me here.) Plus, why the fuck would your parents want you to worship them as gods unless they were narcissistic ass-holes, out to destroy your life, and if the purpose of this religion would be to appease one's parents, then wouldn't it be counter-productive to offer them unwanted worship to make them feel uncomfortable? This religion would be like the new scientology of religions. Crazy, completely unnecessary, and perhaps even a laughingstock.

Atheists convert to a Religion.
Their parents didn't raise them in a religion, yet they believe in something.
Just playing Devils Advocate here...

The Book of Lies
Chapter 21
The Blind Webster.
It is not necessary to understand; it is enough to
adore.
The god may be of clay: adore him; he becomes
GOD.
We ignore what created us; we adore what we create.
Let us create nothing but GOD!
That which causes us to create is our true father and
mother; we create in our own image, which is theirs.
Let us create therefore without fear; for we can
create nothing that is not GOD.

It is very possible, no doubt. I think the better concept is the worship of ancestors. Those who came before, because although your parents gave birth and created you, their aparents created them, and so on.

No because your parents can't answer all the philosophical questions of the universe like an abstract deity can.

I must wonder where the chain would end however.
You would worship your parents, but what about their parents, your grandparents, would you not worship them as gods as well? For if they did not exist, niether would you.
If thats the case, how far back would you have to go in your worship, how many gods would that be? Take for an example of christianity with the adam and eve story, that would mean worshiping millions of people as gods, with the majority of them unknown to you completely. and what about evolution? Would I have to worship the micro-bacteria my ancestors would evolve from 3 billion years ago?
Im looking into this too much, but my parents have my respect, I wont worship or sacrifice goats for them however :3

If you want to take this religion seriously, you'd have to devote lifetimes to finding out where we came from, evolution wise. Praise be to base elements.

They didn't start it, there is no reason for them to be considered gods.

Your thoughts?No.
Religion, more than worship, should be about treating yourself and those around like people: being a 'good' person.
If any religion can make sense. "You get your morals from religion," which is what most of the smarter people who care about religion care about. Nope, I get my morals from treating others the way I want to be treated, and helping who I can when I can. I don't need to be ruled by fear to act like a good person.
Edit: Tired, fixed some odd word.

It's a double edged sword. Depending on the quality of your parenting, some parents can abuse the power given to them by this new "religion". In complete honesty, I don't want to worship my parents as Gods becuase I think they don't deserve it. Is it alright to worship your ancestry, the people who date back to maybe 100-200 years ago that made your social background? Maybe. But then again, I'm not qualified to judge this idea. Maybe certain limitations can go with how this would work, but overall, I'd be a little sceptical of the idea of taking up this practice.
